ive been watching you and subed to you since i was 6 now im 12 ive joined the nsra (im english) i do target shooting in compotitions i have just got my first firearm its a cz brno 511
What do you think about removing the mag release? So easy to do; makes the gun much more of a shooter. I did straightaway and have never regretted it.
@sillyman2266 i've shot both and i got to tell ya.... the beretta looks a little funky to my taste but it feels GREAT in my hand. It is balanced well. It shoots really good too and you gotta love the rails on it.
I just picked up the MK III. My friend gave me all the typical bashing about it being a weak weapon bla bla bla. It isn't like I don't own a higher power firearm it is just that I need something that doesn't eject a dollar bill every time I need to practice. Proficiency with a pistol is my aim with this weapon.
@EternalBeliever tell you buddy he should keep his comments to himself. The MKIII is an outstanding firearm. AND if he gave you any crap over it being a .22lr ask him to stand still at 100yards.... bet he wont.... try hitting something at 100 yards in a bigger caliber is easier said than done.
LOVE the 22/45!! People think "22's aren't cool." Those are the same people who can't shoot worth a damn cause they don't shoot enough!! Cause they can't afford it!
i have a bushnell trs 25 red dot on my ruger 22 45 and its mounted on the stock rail, well after shooting it about a hundred rounds the rail came loose and i had to take the red dot off to retighten it, i was wondering if it is ok to use a threadlocker of some sort in on the screws to prevent this from happening?
@bcmyers12 blue loctite should square that away. just take the screws out, de-grease them, apply loctite, re-insert into position and let it set as needed.
@bcmyers12 I had same problem with TRS25 coming loose, after blue loctie,it solved problem.I also used loctite on Front site and they dont come off anymore
This year Ruger released a 22/45 that has a threaded barrel. I own a Ruger 10/22 and I would very much like to own a 22/45. I think I will probably buy the target model.
I stumbled across one several years ago at a gun show and bought it on impulse. One of the best gun buys ever for me! Just an absolute awesome and fun gun to own, even my great uncle bought one after seeing it! I take it to deer camp every time I go! Great video BTW!
People who say that the .22LR isn't adequate for defense do not want to stand in front of this gun. In fact, King Kong would not want to stand in front of this gun. And they're CHEAP! The ammo is CHEAP! I bought my 22/45 used (mint) for $250. What more could you want? They last forever and don't jam.
I'm a 15 year old TNPer, but am just getting into the gun side of it. The only experience I have with guns is airsoft, which I am sick of. My family currently owns a 20 gauge shotgun (not sure of the maker), and a Henry .22 lever action rifle. I want this gun because I like the low kick, low noise, and cheapness of .22s. I also think shooting a handgun would be really fun. My parents don't want us to have a handgun, because they think they are used only to kill people. How could I argue that?
@GameringGuy home defense, tell them it can bring the family together for recreational time, and you believe you would like to get into target shooting
@GameringGuy show your parents Nutn's philosophy videos on that stuff "Dangerous Things" would be a great one to debunk the fear of an object like a gun.
I have a ruger mk2 with a 9"(i think) bull barrel and a leupold scope. It was my dads shooting for beer gun. I really want a 22/45 because I love the grip angle, and outside of long range bullseye the ruger mk2 isn't all that useful in terms of converting skills to defense/combat pistol shooting. Love the mk2 I have.
Just purchased 22/45 with the replaceable handgrips. I have been shooting my 1911 and it does get spendy, this should work great. Thanks for the great vids!!
had my 22/45 with the threaded barrel trs-25 on top for about 5 months now and your volquartsen trigger install vid was very help full when Installed mine. I also have a mkIII but after taking the wife to the range with it and she shot about a brick of ammo with it! Now the mkIII is her 22 Thanks
I just purchased this .22 in a 5" barrel with checkered cocobolo grips. This vid made me realize I didn't have a .22 auto loading pistol or rifle! I agree that .22s are foundational firearms...I grew up shooting .177/.22 caliber pellet rifles and transitioning recently to an AR (my first real rifle) was cake, just slightly more recoil...but, same fundamentals: trigger pull, breathing, gun safety, etc.
@slowandeasy in the video he's running the Blackhawk Special Operations drop down, which is a universal nylon rig. Nutn has a review on it also. check it out if you're interested. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the videos Nutn. Watched this and a few of your other Ruger vids when I was looking for my first gun. Your videos led me to pick up a Mark III 22/45 Target Model. Had it since August and I love it. I've been able to fire thousands of rounds for about 20 bucks per 500-550 rounds. It is still a pain to clean, but not impossible. Love all your other vids, especially the philosophy ones. You've also led me to my Glock 19 which will be my first CCW. Thanks again NutnFancy!
This is the most informative video on this gun by far. Thank you!!! i ordered one today. I appreciate your in depth report on this gun and can't wait to get the wife and kids on this. Thanks again!!!!
Does it make a significant difference in reliability/accuracy if I get the tapered barrel or the bull, or is mostly a matter of accessories and cosmetics?
Nutnfancy thanks very much i bought a mark III 22/45 on your recommendation and i LOVE IT i can run rounds through it like no ones business. and practice definitely helps ive used it 4 times and i am already getting better because each time i ran up to 200 rounds through it. Thanks again!
I have a Mark III Standard that my grandson (9) has shot a couple of times. The 6" barrel was just too long for him to draw without having his elbow in his ear. I recently purchased the .22/45 Slab-side 4 1/2" for him to shoot, now we will both have .22's we can shoot together. Great video!!
@andrewMguitar Standard is easier to get mags for it seems. I love 1911's and own them so I got the 22/45 to ensure my wife (who will gladly pull the trigger on the 22/45 a lot) will understand the manual of arms of my weapons if she needed to use them. I bought a threaded version for a suppressor for more fun. :-)
I love your show, Fancy, and I was really interested in buying this gun... until I saw the field stripping, and now I'm turning it off cuz I hate Ruger so much. They're like my least favorite gun company. But you reviewed it flawlessly. Keep em comin!
Great stuff Nutin'. Love your talking points reviews! For those that throw occasionally tomatoes, I seriously doubt they don't live in your very real world.
Like yourself my wife loves to shoot THANK GOD!! Keep it coming my good man!!
This gun is ONLY hard to field strip and reassemble the first few times, after that it is really easy as long as you aren't stupid. It takes me about 35 seconds to reassemble after cleaning.
@mdmyers7206 BTW, you can also eliminate the "Loaded Indicator" functionality (to make it smoother to operate) and you >can< make mags drop free very easily. It sucks you gotta change a few parts over to mk2 replacement parts, but for new guys wanting to add a ruger to their armory, buying new can be a lot easier depending on availability. At least with this, you can get the mk2 operation with a new pistol.
hey nutn- just something to remember- this gun was based of of the japanese nambu 8mm so the rounded trigger guard is actually closer to the inspiration
love the comparison of the mkii and mk iii. but thanks to your volquartsen install video I won't fret if I can't find a mkii at the show next weekend, i'll try the install myself. BTW, the install video was a lot better than volquartsen's vid, much more "user friendly".
hey nutn i just want to say that later on in the video the review of the 22/45 turn into a comparison between the mkII and the mkIII 22/45and im not trying to be a troll or tell you what to do or any thing i am still a fan of tnp all i am doing is telling you this so you can even better your vids not that they are already great
As a new shooter, I'm considering a target/plinking .22 gun. I've narrowed it down to the 22/45 and the Mark III. What is the difference between them? Do you have a preference?
@407ForRent the range of value depends on what condition its in and what model some range from $200 to $1000 if its a special edition or something like that
Great job on the review, my uncle started me out on the MkII version, and I've been hunting around for one for a while in my area. Sadly most of the local gun shops just don't have any used one (For obvious reasons). Very informative, I'll probably just break down and go with the MkIII version.
Thank you for making this video, please keep up the splendid work!
I like the normal Mark III's better. I don't like the oversized trigger guard (practical, but not "pretty") or the grip (love the 1911, just not on a Ruger 22.) If I wanted a 1911 style gun, I personally would buy a GSG or similar 22. 1911. 22/45s and standard Mark III's are great 22.'s though, no doubt
Just picked up a used 22/45 Mk III Target today. This thing is stout, couldnt be happier. Def going to mod the heck out of it over its life. Thanks for the vid dude.
With the magazine safety latch thing which i agree is stupid aswell... Could u file that metal away and or remove it or replace it so the mag will just fall straight out.
this gun is great, i bought one a few months ago and put thousands of rounds through it already. Sadly cleaning (reassembally) is a massive hassel, I'de rlly appriciat a video on reassembally/cleaning. Im sure their ar others who have this same problem, love the vids BH
The cheap blued model would make a great project gun, right? I am thinking of applying some of that Cerakote.. er--whatever that protective coating you used on your rifles was. It comes in various colors...and would look great I think :)
I agree with everything about this gun. I have the MK111 22/45 with the replaceable panels. I have removed the mag safety. But I have a strange problem. No matter how tight I make it, the rear sight moves to the right after a couple hundred rounds! The dovetail is tight, and the set screw is not stripped. I also had the front sight come loose, but I fixed that with threadlock.
you guys are pimpin! I live in seattle and have a 10/22 and a p22. i want to get a 22/45. My question is is there any ipsc/ipda type competitions for rimfires in my area? Iknow there are more rimfire activities lately but can't find any.
Im gonna be picking up either a mark 3 or 22/45 soon. Also picked up a 10-22 before I saw your videos and a ruger sr9 and lcp after watching the vids, YOu do a really good job with presenting the information in an interesting way. KEEP IT UP BRUTHA MAN!
I have a Ruger MK 2 .22 pistol. Looks kinda like a Luger. it was my great grandfathers during world war 2. I also have his 1911, Thompson, and the m1 carbine he was assigned during training runs.
@Wontonwabledoo They're actually a copy of the Japanese Nambu pistol. Pretty ironic, one of the worst service pistols being turned into one of the best for training and small game hunting.
If you like shooting .22 pistols check out the Colt 1911-22 Rail Gun. I just bought one and it is the best .22 pistol I've ever bought. The parts are completely customizable with any other 1911. You should review it because I guarantee it will keep up with your Kimber or any Ruger .22//45. CHECK IT, IT ALSO HAS A 12-ROUND MAGAZINE!
I really like the GSG 1911 22LR for training. It is almost identical in feel to a real 1911. I've owned 2 Rugers over my lifetime and ended up selling them, mainly for the disassembly/assembly method that it requires and that it never ""felt good" in my holster when in the field. I guess the grip angle did it for me.
Thanks for the review. Having three slightly different Models really helps making an informed decision. I have rented a 22/45 at my local range and it is insanely accurate. I will soon buy one. I'm more of revolver guy, and find the DA trigger of the S+W Model 17 more challanging and more realistic for my personal training tool. My wife is just beginning to shoot with me and loves the .22 caliber and is steadily making improvement. A few thousands of rounds have transformed my shooting skills.
You are right about this pistol. It is accurate and reliable in every respect. Avoid too much dry fire because the rolled firing pin stop will fail eventually . I have a Mk3 22/45 with grip mod to allow 1911 grip panels (Gunsmith installed as I have no way of doing it.). Hogue "Lamo Camo" grips.
A "Battlecloth" holster made in the USA. Check out Battlecloth@comcast.net. Amazing field holsters for these pistols. Steve can be found on Ar15.com. Grateful guy in Canada for having one.
I own a 22/45 threaded with GEMTECH outback-II, because it's fun for me, the wife and my girls to practice. I have a small collection of Ruger .22, it doesn't break the bank.
@bashfulbrother He kills paper terrorists for a living. But don't laugh--the paper terrorists really die! Pieces of them are blown everywhere. It's sick, but somebody has to do it. Who else is going to protect our right to bear arms? LOL
@bashfulbrother Nope. But I was hoping I could be one of those paper targets so he can shoot his manly bullets at my head and I could feel happy with rainbows and unicorns--all recorded on Youtube especially for you. Because I'm sarcasmic and you just don't get it :) Dude laugh a little! :)
@ntrudr800 If you were being facetious, I apologize. ON THIS SITE, one learns after 2 or 3 posts that there is always someone out there who disagrees with you-which is fine-and they usually immediately resort to insults and attack as a first line of debate.
I was being quite serious about Nut''n. He has great videos that are very informative and seems to have an endless supply of new equipment. I just was wondering what he did for a living. None of my business anyway.
@lickoflamb dude there is a mk II and a mk II 22/45, there are also mk II and mk III's regular version these are teh 22/45 version, if you watched this and still didnt get it your a complete idiot
Who says this isn't a great defensive weapon. Look at how quiet it is, can you imagine if someone were breakin in on you, you just start lightin them up with 22 bullets, I think it would destroy them.
Thanks to your review I too have purchased the Ruger 22/45. My intended use was to increase my marksmanship and have the skills to carry it to my 9mm Glock 26. I have improved tremedously, being only a CCW carrier for over a month. My grouping is much tighter on both guns. Overall I have more shooting time without emptying my pockets. Thanks a lot to you, I am a big fan of your project, and consider myself as a civilian sheepdog.
I bought one of these when they first came out in the early 90's. It was SS with a (I believe 5") bull barrel. It was by far the most accurate pistol I ever owned.
Shooting Thunderbolts, I remember regularly putting 10 out of 10 into the bottom of a soda can (bottom facing me) from 25 yards.
Maybe it was a fluke because I ended up buying another one that wasn't nearly as accurate. =/
Think I'll pick up another this week and see how they perform.
The all-steel Mk.2/Mk.3 has removable grip panels. The Hogue Mk.2 rubber grip fits boths. The lack of available rubber grips is a downside to the SW 41 (to say nothing of it's $1100 price tag.)
Funny story: bought a Mk.3 Hunter several years ago. A year and a half ago, I sold it on consignment along with a SW617 to finance a SW41. The buyer put the same gun on consignment last week and I re-bought it today. The 41 is great--awesome trigger and accuracy, but really picky on ammo: basically standard vel., nonwaxed. The Ruger will eat anything.
Great job on all your video's! I just bought one of these 22/45's with a 4.5 inch MK iii... Mine is slab sided with sweet wood grips...which Ammo do you think works best and is cheap?
Yet another gun added to my collection thanks, in part, to the Nutnfancy seal of approval. Loads of fun... Gun... 2 mags.. scope rail.. drilled and tapped with a 550 round brick of ammo for less than 300 bucks. I expect my wife will love it too. I expect there will be more of these added to my collection.
Because of your video I went out and bought the 5.5in w/ Cocobolo grip pannels...I agree the factory sights suck, so I will be replacing them. The overall look of the gun is sick...I love it!!! Thanks for making awesome gun review videos!
Thank you so much for this video. I think I'll be picking this up as my first. Thank you so much for contributing so much to community! Best wishes. -T
Another great video. I think you just saved me from making a $330 mistake on another 22LR pistol you have reviewed. I'm going with a Ruger. Probably one of the new 22/45s with the threaded barrel.
Thank you Sir!!!!!!!!! because of your vid, I just purchased mine today Ruger Mk 3 22/45 and got rid of my Sig Mosquito which I only bought yesterday but was jamming, misfeeding, FTF, and FTE after a couple of hundred rounds thru it.....
The ruger worked like a charm even with the XXX Walmart ammo....
Does anyone know of a decent nylon holster for the target model, 5 1/2" barrel? I'm having trouble finding one. Thanks

I love your show, Fancy, and I was really interested in buying this gun... until I saw the field stripping, and now I'm turning it off cuz I hate Ruger so much. They're like my least favorite gun company. But you reviewed it flawlessly. Keep em comin!

is the busnell trs 25 a good sight for this gun?

It must be amazing being able to shoot it that fast and not having to worry about all the kick back!

Great stuff Nutin'. Love your talking points reviews! For those that throw occasionally tomatoes, I seriously doubt they don't live in your very real world.
Like yourself my wife loves to shoot THANK GOD!! Keep it coming my good man!!

rhayden84 7 months ago
This gun is ONLY hard to field strip and reassemble the first few times, after that it is really easy as long as you aren't stupid. It takes me about 35 seconds to reassemble after cleaning.
thom3456 7 months ago
God field strip is FUBAR!!! Get a Beretta Neos folks. Sure the Ruger is nice but that field strip kills it for me.
Lokpyrite 7 months ago
@Lokpyrite Get mk2 parts to make a mk3 easier to strip.
mdmyers7206 7 months ago
@mdmyers7206 BTW, you can also eliminate the "Loaded Indicator" functionality (to make it smoother to operate) and you >can< make mags drop free very easily. It sucks you gotta change a few parts over to mk2 replacement parts, but for new guys wanting to add a ruger to their armory, buying new can be a lot easier depending on availability. At least with this, you can get the mk2 operation with a new pistol.
mdmyers7206 7 months ago
I have a problem with you Nutnfancy.... You should be sending me some sort of a rebate if I buy what you recommend. You are costing me money.
Be well

love the comparison of the mkii and mk iii. but thanks to your volquartsen install video I won't fret if I can't find a mkii at the show next weekend, i'll try the install myself. BTW, the install video was a lot better than volquartsen's vid, much more "user friendly".

aroccop 9 months ago in playlist PISTOL REVIEWS, RIMFIRE
@aroccop It is more accurate than the shooter. Operator error will greatly outweigh the mechanical limits of the gun's accuracy.

As a new shooter, I'm considering a target/plinking .22 gun. I've narrowed it down to the 22/45 and the Mark III. What is the difference between them? Do you have a preference?

@DeathKnightKiller the 22/45 has a diffrent grip angle and thats about it

407ForRent 9 months ago
@407ForRent the range of value depends on what condition its in and what model some range from $200 to $1000 if its a special edition or something like that
bzlaacchk 9 months ago
Great job on the review, my uncle started me out on the MkII version, and I've been hunting around for one for a while in my area. Sadly most of the local gun shops just don't have any used one (For obvious reasons). Very informative, I'll probably just break down and go with the MkIII version.
Thank you for making this video, please keep up the splendid work!
Arphalia 9 months ago
I like the normal Mark III's better. I don't like the oversized trigger guard (practical, but not "pretty") or the grip (love the 1911, just not on a Ruger 22.) If I wanted a 1911 style gun, I personally would buy a GSG or similar 22. 1911. 22/45s and standard Mark III's are great 22.'s though, no doubt
LacrosseRifleShooter 9 months ago

The cheap blued model would make a great project gun, right? I am thinking of applying some of that Cerakote.. er--whatever that protective coating you used on your rifles was. It comes in various colors...and would look great I think :)

ChromeArty 10 months ago
I agree with everything about this gun. I have the MK111 22/45 with the replaceable panels. I have removed the mag safety. But I have a strange problem. No matter how tight I make it, the rear sight moves to the right after a couple hundred rounds! The dovetail is tight, and the set screw is not stripped. I also had the front sight come loose, but I fixed that with threadlock.

I have a Ruger MK 2 .22 pistol. Looks kinda like a Luger. it was my great grandfathers during world war 2. I also have his 1911, Thompson, and the m1 carbine he was assigned during training runs.
Wontonwabledoo 11 months ago
@Wontonwabledoo They're actually a copy of the Japanese Nambu pistol. Pretty ironic, one of the worst service pistols being turned into one of the best for training and small game hunting.
Goodspittin 11 months ago
If you like shooting .22 pistols check out the Colt 1911-22 Rail Gun. I just bought one and it is the best .22 pistol I've ever bought. The parts are completely customizable with any other 1911. You should review it because I guarantee it will keep up with your Kimber or any Ruger .22//45. CHECK IT, IT ALSO HAS A 12-ROUND MAGAZINE!
jennamoneyshot1 11 months ago

Grateful guy in Canada for having one.

ntrudr800 10 months ago
@ntrudr800 If you were being facetious, I apologize. ON THIS SITE, one learns after 2 or 3 posts that there is always someone out there who disagrees with you-which is fine-and they usually immediately resort to insults and attack as a first line of debate.
I was being quite serious about Nut''n. He has great videos that are very informative and seems to have an endless supply of new equipment. I just was wondering what he did for a living. None of my business anyway.

Thanks a lot to you, I am a big fan of your project, and consider myself as a civilian sheepdog.
jujitsuboy76 1 year ago
I bought one of these when they first came out in the early 90's. It was SS with a (I believe 5") bull barrel. It was by far the most accurate pistol I ever owned.
Shooting Thunderbolts, I remember regularly putting 10 out of 10 into the bottom of a soda can (bottom facing me) from 25 yards.
Maybe it was a fluke because I ended up buying another one that wasn't nearly as accurate. =/
Think I'll pick up another this week and see how they perform.
Cheers!

The all-steel Mk.2/Mk.3 has removable grip panels. The Hogue Mk.2 rubber grip fits boths. The lack of available rubber grips is a downside to the SW 41 (to say nothing of it's $1100 price tag.)
nixfur 1 year ago
Slip-on grips: of course you have to peel it off every time you clean it because of that switchy thing on the back-strap.
Hate mag-disconnect on fighting guns especially. Hate-hate-hate it on the Browning HP. Removed it from mine.
nixfur 1 year ago
Funny story: bought a Mk.3 Hunter several years ago. A year and a half ago, I sold it on consignment along with a SW617 to finance a SW41. The buyer put the same gun on consignment last week and I re-bought it today. The 41 is great--awesome trigger and accuracy, but really picky on ammo: basically standard vel., nonwaxed. The Ruger will eat anything.

Yet another gun added to my collection thanks, in part, to the Nutnfancy seal of approval. Loads of fun...
