wait, so spiritual experiences actually happens and has a physical effect? and its not just ppl making shit up to promote their faith? hmm.... interesting.
Im not in any way trying to press particular beliefs on anyone, Im only trying to gather information from anyone who is willing to give their input so I might be able to obtain some answers to my questions. Im not in here arguing for or against God and Im not arguing for or against science. The problem with science and God, is that there is no scientific data whatsoever to prove the existence of God or disprove it.
@windham666 "This universe was created by laws we are not aware of" Stephen Hawking. If he dont know the answer...then you definitely dont know the answer...
Its only an assumption that those people had temporal lobe epilepsy, there is no possible way to test them, science still has no idea what "reality" is, so far science bases reality on what we can see or touch, you would be surprised how many scientist believe in God, they just cant publicly admit it.
We certainly can't test those people, but we can gather evidence on those who are alive right now and make a scientific assumption based on the gathered data. Religiosity is tied to the temporal lobe, it's a fact, stimulation of temporal lobe (especially right) creates a feeling in a person as if someone is watching them or in a room with them, it's called sensed presence, and people of different religious backgrounds attribute this feeling to whatever deity they believe in.
Those who experience temporal lobe epilepsy (an uncontrolled firing of neurons) are far more likely to be religious! Older people are far more likely to be religious because they experience temporal lobe spikes much more often than younger people. An epilepsy can cause a number of sensory hallucinations from visual to auditory, the events of which are described by those who had 'religious experiences' or have been 'touched by God'!
Based on this information, and knowing that homo sapiens are one specie and we are all pretty much a copy of the same DNA (with minor variations of course, but basically the same, otherwise medicine wouldn't work), we could make a pretty accurate scientific assumption that those prophets had the same 'religious experiences' as temporal lobe epileptics do now.
@Spetsop temporal lobe epileptics, no, because that would mean there were mass hallucinations going on. Remember, the Greeks were the best scribes the world has ever seen, they documented everything with precision and accuracy.
Why would temporal lobe epilepsy mean "mass hallucinations"? A seizure in one person is not tied to the function of the brain of another person. If the cause of a seizure is internal why would people start mass hallucinating? If the cause of it is external (some stimulant, like a bright flickering light, or some sound), and you've got a room of people, then only those with higher sensitivity MIGHT have SOME sort of a seizure.
Mass hallucinations are often the result of drugs... like ergot during medieval ages (and in current times in villages)! This poison was ingested in bread and people saw witches, werewolves, vampires, etc. by the entire villages!
Oh, and what do Greek scribes have to do with any of this?
@Spetsop The human brain has its own hallucinogen, its call DMT. The Greeks documented the "miracles" that Jesus and his disciples performed, am I correct on that? Thats common knowledge? Im just saying that a lot of people seen these miracles and Greeks recorded them, so where all of these people mass hallucinating? Im only asking obvious questions that nobody can ever give me a straight answer to.
Look into DMT, some scientist think its the "Gateway to the spirit world".
I don't know if you're correct or not... I haven't seen any such documentations by the Greek... you can provide a link to them if you could!
Ya, I know what DMT is, some people produce other substances that makes them naturally high. But that just adds to my point, a hallucination is just that, a hallucination, regardless of whether it was achieved by consuming a drug, or synthesizing it naturally inside one's body!
A person on DMT would almost always experience a sensed presence, and different cultures have different explanations for such feeling. Hence why it's called the "spirit molecule". Some scientists think that small amounts of LSD can open one to higher consciousness. Incidentally DMT (Iowaska) was thought to be the "truth serum" drug, that would make one KNOW what the other person is thinking about.
But that's a subjective experience. You need an outside source to confirm your beliefs. If amygdala is stimulated at the same time as any other area of the brain, whatever you are experiencing in the moment will feel like the truth! And amygdala is part of temporal lobe, so it becomes even more clear why those who have temporal lobe epilepsy and have religious experiences b/c of that, tend to argue intensively that their experiences were real!
It is a fallcey to say man created man, matter can't be destoyred, or created. God is'nt Matter, Time, or space? So he can't be fake. Because matter just can't come to be. Someone or somthing had to of make it, Like god. The holy Bible is the only book to predict future, and for it come to be. No mortal man can predict the future.
All one needs to do is hold something in one's hand and predict it will fall to the ground when we let go, unless its a helium baloon, and we shall see that it will, and we predict it because we know of the theory of gravity...
If god existed he must be composed of either matter or energy, so where is he? Can you point us to the place in space that holds god within it?
If you want to answer that he is outside the universe, he doesn't exist ;)
we can't create energy. energy, like matter, cannot be created or destroyed, only changed between states. that's like.. not even pre-school physics. also, energy doesn't take up space, only mass. here we go again with the pre-school physics. and the last one doesn't bear thinking about- "in his diminished form... kill him with the energy". it sounds like some fuckin yu-gi-oh storyline. don't get me wrong, i'm not religious, but your propositions are ridiculous.
Though of course it is implied when i say 'create energy' that we are merely converting energy-rich compounds and subtracting heat or electrical voltage from it - i'm luckily not entirely retarded :]
What is yu-gi-oh btw? some sort of kid's cartoon??
nawhh, its much more fun being regarded as less intelligent than i am - at least then nobody gets disappointed by the next thing i say unless i purposefully dumb it down further :>
A lot can be acheived by letting others think you know less than you actually do ; that's one of the tenures of the power of knowledge - hiding it ^^
"God is'nt Matter, Time, or space? So he can't be fake. Because matter just can't come to be. Someone or somthing had to of make it, Like god. The holy Bible is the only book to predict future, and for it come to be."
Those are fallacies (and contradictory). Matter can't be created, so god must have created it - yeah right. I wouldn't say the bible is the only book that people can read and then make things happen to fulfill so-called prophecies.
The holy bible IS FULL of contridictions and inaccuracies! Example: Jesus told his disciples that some of them would see him return before they died! WRONG, it never happened! Another example: The world is not near 4, 6, or even 8 thousand years old as the bible says! It's billions of years old! Those are only 2 of many things wrong with the bible!
This is by far the most comprehensive and stimulating book I have EVER read! Dr. Comings, scientist, medical doctor and geneticist presents wonderful explanation and insight into a most important question. No matter what your theological view, David Comings writing guides you through the complexities of 20th and 21st century science. Dr. Comings has a wonderful way of turning dry science into a sumptuous feast. All should treasure this wonderful volume. It is after all, our story.

Take a look at two tedx conejo videos of Mark Waldman, showing how spiritual practices change the brain in positive ways. Inspiring!

half the popes and prophets in history had temporal lobe epilepsy, hence the delusions and phony visions

your dumb, don't even know what your saying! God is Energy, and it takes energy to create matter Duh!
budgielover9 3 years ago
So i'm dumb because you dont understand what i'm saying?
If god is energy, where is he then?
If god is energy, then we can create more gods since we certainly can create more energy... so who created the first god then?
If god is energy, and energy is spent when matter is created, isn't it safe to assume that god died in creating the universe then?
If god is energy and he is still around, in his diminished form we could then kill him by using the energy, right?
