They would have to emulate the Emotion chip and GS chip to play ps2 game. Which they can if they choose to. The cost of PS3 would mostly like remained at 399 if they did. They are trying to cut cost here. You understand?

Yeah that's true, but I have a 60GB model (I'm British though, and Sony never bothered to give us the 20GB PS3 or the EE chip in Europe for MORE money; 425 pounds = 804 dollars). They removed BC not because the games were' worthless', but because

1. The production cost was too high and they needed to cut down on certain features, (such as 2 USB ports instead of 4)

2. They want the PS2 market too continue for a while, instead of letting it die(like MS or Nintendo did with their consoles), they will continue to support it and release games for it for years to come..
