Sorry, but that is not a robot. It is radio controlled, since when is a radio control machine a robot.  A robot needs to be autonomous, with a logic program to make decisions even if they are simple ones. Sorry, back to school and learn some more. Stop wasting our time.

My opinion is that you are a good programmer. But i don't think it was a good design at all. I mean, c'mon! 2 cd disks and a stick to make it drive? It's not weird that the Robot draw a lot of power.... It probably struggle to moving becaus of the way you buildt it.

The motors draw a lot of power from the little 9volt battery, and when they turn on the voltage would drop down so low it would reset the microcontroller. The caps give them enough touque to power on without dropping the battery voltage.

@CoyoteEngineering I am sorry, but how can the capacitors give enough torque, capacitors give torque! The voltage drop that happens when the motors turn on is because the battery has a large series resistance. In other words the 9v battery "cannot supply enough current" for the motors/microcontroller to run properly. In this case you should really be using a AA battery or something else with lower series resistance or more current capability.

A microcontroller is a small computer. In this case, it is an 18 pin programmable chip. The program that is store on the chip tells the 2 motors when to turn on.

On the home made robot, there is a separate motor on each wheel. running one motor faster than the other will make it turn. If the motors are running opposite directions, the robot will spin in place.
