If you're still looking to re-chrome the mag and cleaning rod, ask your local auto-body shop. Body shops usually know companies that do re-chroming as they have bumpers and what not which they will have re-done.
I got a WASR and the mag well is really tight. I bought extra mags for it and using plastic waffle mags from TAPCO is a real bitch to change the magazine. I thought this was normal but seeing how easy it is for you to change your mag just made me realize. The steel mags work better for sure so im not too concerned about it, but if I was in combat I would probably get shot to shit while trying to change my magazine.

These are "Hard Chrome", not the shiny chromed like on 18 wheelers and custom rides. There is a difference. Hard chrome is good for corrosion resistance. Shiny chrome is also good for corrosion resistance, BUT it is micro thin. That's why rust will eventually eat up shiny chrome.
Hard chrome is not meant to look good. Of course that's in the eye of the beholder.
The chrome is mighty sharp. It's affectiveness as a corrosive inhibitor is a bit under rated. Keeping oxidation from ruining your finish becomes the least attractive part of gun ownership. I don't have a chrome weapon but I still like to protect my metal. I have a WASR 10 in the process of being painted a JOALs custom design using DuraCoat firearm finish from Lauer custom weaponry. I had a Taurus PT24/7 covered with the Black Mamba paint scheme and I LOVE it. No interference with the operation.

the finish on the rod and mag is due to that they are made of differnt metal. had the same issue with my gold plating.... unforutnately. oh well
