I loved this movie and joaquin phoenix did a wonderful job. I didn't even notice val and yes some of the story was made up but so was the first half of the ten commandments. I think the made up parts made the story better. they stayed true to who Johnny cash was. He was the man in black and that is that....amazing. fav song ring of fire. I didn't know johnny cash before my time but he was amazing.

I still think he was good and pretty convincing as Jim Morrison, even though he didnt look like him. It has got to be really hard playin a real person. Although the guy what played the main part of the old 1980 'Clash of the Titans' film looked very much like Morrison and obviously he wasnt ever tryin to!!

Actually I debate the accuracy of this comment. I have watched the special features of the movie with Joaquin and Reese, and the crew and cast made specific mention of the remarkable similarity between Joaquin's and Johnny's voices, and the fact that he actually pulled the role off with no additional editing or effects for his voice.
