I didnt grow up with the original Godzilla movies, but i still think it is not possible to compare the 1998 one with the original one. They are like two completely different movie genres. I think the 1998 one is okay to watch as long as you never ever ever compare it to the original Godzilla.

1) The amount of movies, commercials, comics, exc. featuring Godzilla is off the charts

Legendary Pictures an Warner Bro's are working with Toho to bring Godzilla back in 2014 in the American Reboot

No Official release date has been set, but Gareth Edward's in the director, an David Goyer wrote the first draft of the script an another writer has been brought in to polish it off at the moment.

No news on if the American Reboot of Godzilla in 3D or not.. hasn't been confirmed.
