right! the evil laughing is missing in the end!!! maybe he controls hisself, in conclusion he is in a christly house.....who knews? but a genius work!
Bach wrote a lot of music for the church, and Tocata & Fuga is not an exception, this is an entrance music for the church, in this magnificent piece of music we can find the interaction of heaven and hell, holiness and sin within the life of man.
I honestly dislike the association of this with evil things in horror movies...
I find this piece incredibly beautiful, and Bach delayed the chords perfectly when he wrote it. I love the reintroduction to the chords after the deceptions in between.
@hellomate639 i agree with you!!!!!! Bach wrote a lot of music for the church, and Tocata & Fuga is not an exception, this is an entrance music for the church, in this magnificent piece of music we can find the interaction of heaven and hell, holiness and sin within the life of man.
I'll mention that I'm an atheist, though I don't think that this has to do with sin, despite the minor chords in it. Power combined with minor chords does not always mean ominous.
Religious music that is meant to represent the love of Jesus can be in a minor chord. Think of it as beauty that is so great that it brings you to tears, but not necessarily in the musical sense. That's what I think is represented in a lot- not necessarily this.
This is played in the right key, however, this instrument likely uses a baroque tuning temperament -- not equal temperament like today, also it is probably not tuned anywhere near A-440.
@ravenrage07 Trust me, it's epic, especially when your not expecting for it to come on when your in a cathedral and out of nowhere, someone just starts to play The Toccata and then lines of people holding candles and flags come marching into the cathedral not paying attention to anyone and start to do religious practices, you just get chills all over and you feel so out of place but can't help to watch because of how epic it really is, you would just have to experience it to fully understand
@promethe1304@musaed91@huqmierocketlauncher To the two idiots at the bottom on this page thinking they would play this in "hell" *if there is or is not a hell* they play this in cathedrals all around the world...more of a "heaven" thing... just like he said
@mrboxingrandy You stupid piece of cow dung , toccata and fugue has allways been seen as an extremely obscur piece , no matter where it is played , even in the part where you've emerged from your mom , music has no specified meaning , and calling us idiots because we understand it the way you don't , just show how near from the wall you'r cradle has been . :)
@promethe1304 Not that I don't appreciate the defense of finding your own meaning in someone's art, could you defend your point with better grammar? Please and thank you. Also, argue without the insults please. It makes you look just as short sighted as the one with whom you are arguing.
@CCBrown92 Stop speaking like that... you people drive me fuckin bonkers. "It makes you look just as short sighted as the one with whom you are arguing.".. the fuck? You speak like that so you sound clever, but, you are not. Plus, "whom you are arguing"... doesn't make sense. I never knew you could argue someone.
@arit34 Bach wrote a lot of music for the church, and Tocata & Fuga is not an exception, this is an entrance music for the church, in this magnificent piece of music we can find the interaction of heaven and hell, holiness and sin within the life of man. So this is not an evil or creepy music!!!!!
@francomug Well, I have a hard time listening to things that aren't tuned to 440 Hz concert A. Perfect pitch is honestly a bit of a downfall for listening to period instruments for me.
This seems to be in an higher octave than the version of this composition I usually hear. But I remember in kindergarden, my music teacher told us that this was church music composed for a church, and every one thought it was beautiful. This piece is beautiful (don't get me wrong) But the funny thing is the begining uses heavy minor chords and it does sort of make the hair on the back of your neck stand up when you hear the first phrase for the first time. But it seems unfitting 4 a church.
First time I've seen this video even though it was posted in 2006. The music is FANTASTIC!! The organist.........SUPER CREEPY!!!!! Bulging eyes, no expression in the mouth makes ya wonder if he's plannin to murder someone or just did.
Where is this, and this is the most beautiful Baroque Organ I've ever seen! I wanna buy it XD and here's another musical joke: "How are you? I'm Swell, and how are you? I'm Great!" AKA-swell pedal and Great Pedals are on organs...
Listening to this with my speakers on high. Ah...such a powerful sound. Anyone know what it feels like being in the presence of one of these? Im sure the bass notes vibrate your inner core.
@o0oSolidSnakeo0o I wish I could go to a cathedral and jam out on a pipe organ. ...only problem is im not good at it lol. I can play the melody of "Bloody Tears" from Castlevania though. Sounds awesome with the organ sound on my keyboard.
AWESOME!!!! This truly is a great perfomance, on what looks like a wonderful instrument. I wish there were more information provided.. who's performing? Where? What are some of the details of the organ? This would be in my opinion, a GOOD thing.
I wounder who can up with the foot pedal idea for organs. It's amazing but if it was invented now i'm sure it would get some eye rolls at the patent office ha
It is a violent song. A powerfull song. No person will say that classical music isn't the best type of music after hearing this. It shows so much emotion. Nowadays all we hear is drums here, electronics there... It's just not the same...
Just imagine, if you're a poor, poor peasant in the past who's NEVER heard music before. Then, someone leads you to a church and you walk in to hear this. You can NEVER under-estimate the power of Classical music. And this song demonstrates how powerful Bach truly was.
Ok, here's another one...in case you never heard it before. Bach(back) in one hour. Why did Bach have so many children? He didn't have any stops on his "organ".
Am I the only person who feels like this ISN'T in d minor? It feels like it's up a whole step at least...I see him hitting the D pedal when the pedal statement enters, but it feels a little chipper in pitch....

You can't exactly tune an organ but judging by the design of the building and the actual instrument, it would most likely have been built around Bach's time so the pipes would be slightly different sizes to more contemporary pipe organs.
Well, there's a lot more music you'd originally think to be original. But most of it is ultimately derived from the great works of these virtuosos. ;)
awesome.. weeks of practicing and i can play from the 2:30 mark to the 3:12 mark lol.. that makes about 9 months to a year and i'll be able to stumble through this peice.
