Old Vic would be proud of his flag-bearing son, 12 year old Our Vic. who is still putting in classy performances over jumps under big weights, more recently at Haydock last saturday, carrying 11 stone 12 lbs on heavy ground into 2nd. Great performance.
@maximus8992 On all form and ratings they were very closely matched Maximus, so to say Old Vic was a far better horse is pretty wide of the mark I think. They had different strengths, Old Vic was more of a stayer who could maintain a searching gallop, his Derby victories were most impressive. Nashwan on the other hand had more speed, check out his Guineas and Eclipse victories on here. Both top class horses, a real pity they never got to lock horns on the racecourse.
Old Vic was outstanding over 1m4f. As a 4 year I recall that he almost beat Belmez in the King George at Ascot. One the best races of all time. Steve Cauthen gave it everything he had but just missed out to Kinane. Quest for Fame (Derby Winner)and In the Wings (subseqent Breeders Cup Winner) were 3rd and 4th I think.
Wow i never seen him before.. i have one of his geldings Vic's Charm.. and he doesn't race but he is brill at flat and he is awsome at cross country.. but showjumping he needs to stop messing about.. he can do it. Wow old vic is awsome!
I think we all knew at the time that an Old Vic - Nashwan match-up was never going to happen. A shame, but I think Nashwan would have shaded it on the day.
cauthen and cecil, wonderful years.

You are probably right. Steve Cauthen was of the same opinion.
