  • mine says dosgame doesnt exist???

  • Mine just keeps telling me the file exists, but fails to open with write-protection. I can't figure out how to remove the write-protection

  • ---Use the shift on the left for the full colon---

  • Cryptnox THUMB THIS GUY UP

  • Why so complicated? Just drag the frigging .exe file of Arena in a shortcut of dosbox. Voilá!

I can't believe nobody pointed this out yet...

  • Wow, it worked! .-.

    At the first time. Thanks

  • It says unable to change to /ARENA

  • Crap... i've done it all... but after i got into ARENA folder i should type arena and it would work... but it won't!... i've tried to type Install but it won't work either... i've got no idea of what to try now '-'

  • why cant i put a full colon? even when i press shift i can only put in a semi-colon

  • @comshield That's strange, google that shit.

  • @entername53 I'm glad it helped! Enjoy the game.

  • for me its coming up with c:\dosgame does' nt exist

  • Thanks very much!

  • Thanks ^_^

  • haha my computer is too shit to even play it, runs really slow...

  • i was able to play it but it lags like hell and i got a pretty damn good comp. is there something im doing wrong?

  • @Person2559 Adjust the frame cycle either through the config file or through the dosbox shell keyboard commands.

  • @Boghman22 Uhh i got past that part but now it says "unable to change to cd\arena" what do i do?

  • @Arnie1000351 i was stuck doing the same thing you were. the folder that you need to mount is c:\arena . all the rest is the exact same! good luck!

  • @Boghman22 Can you tell me how do this through the shell keyboard commands?

  • @EPICsliceOFcake I think you increase the cycles on this version of dosbox with crtl+f12 for increased cycles. It's been years, so I might be wrong.

  • @Boghman22 Yes. That helped. Thank you.

  • @EPICsliceOFcake No problem, and there are a number of commands featured in the config file as well.

  • Thanks, this helped a lot!

  • Works. Thanks.

  • c:\ARENA>arena ya it didnt work on mine im stuck here

  • @bluspy12 Did you check the location of the file?

  • @Boghman22 oh found it thanks man

  • @bluspy12 Cool

  • Comment removed

  • Everytime I put n cd\arena it says: Unable to change to: \arena

  • @PROkiller16 Review the video...I guarantee it will work.

  • @Boghman22 yeah I got it to work, for some reason it doesn't reconise any hard drive other then C

  • @PROkiller16 Yeah...

  • @PROkiller16 You have to put the game in the c:\ as well, at least, thats what I did and it made the game work

  • need help. when you type mount c c:\. i cant to the \ on dos? so whats the problem with it.

  • yay thnks man i got mine working thanks for the help lol i have 2 increse the FPS tons!!! ive got morrowind now lol so i play that but still arena is still a awsome classic one of the best ever

  • when i do it, it says unable to change to \arena help me

  • ive got the same problem

  • mine says arena illigal command

  • Well, I got it to work (thanks for the helpful video!), but it lags at a good 3-4 fps. Is this just another one of those Windows Vista 64-bit problems?

  • It could be, but I doubt it.

I offer these suggestions for your consideration:

    CTRL+F12

    or

Access config and change to autocycle. To be honest, it has been more than a year since I have used this program and if you require any more assistance, I would be more than happy to help you out. Just give me a minimum of 10 minutes.:D

  • uhm why dosent the backslash key not work on dosbox plz tell me asap thx

  • You can re-map keys with CTRL+F1. This happens sometimes with Dosbox when it confuses one key for another.

    Hope this helps.

  • yeah, i don't really know how that part works either, could you give some more detailed information? cuz i can't find the : and \, which are very important :D

  • woot!! no bethseda is releasing daggerfall as freeware! go grab it!

  • Thanks man, this vid really helped.

  • NVM.. LOl

  • I got to the point where it sys C:\ARENA>

but how do you run the game?

  • Worked perfectly for me. Thanks! I would rather not have my dosgames folder directly when I open the C drive but whatever, at least it works.

  • Great to hear!

If you want to take it a step further, you can always run a CVS build with additional shaders and overall smoother graphics (recommended for Daggerfall.)

  • worked thanks :D (make one for daggerfall too plz)

  • Glad to hear it!

I will try to submit a comprehensive guide to Daggerfall soon (it's a doozy!)

  • it says "unable to change arena"

  • It says I am still on drive Z change to a mounted drive with C:

    Help?

  • change with "mount c c:\", then subsequently type "c:"

    Hope this helps.

  • hey guys, mine just says "Unable to change to: \arena", for the cd command everything else seems fine though, good vid anyways

  • Awesome, thanks.

  • No Problem!

  • It keeps saying "directory doesn't exist", can someone help me?

  • If you still need help message me and I might be able to help you.

  • I'm new to using DOSBox, how do i insert TES Arena files in the C folder?

  • well download it or if u have it now u most do a folder to the arena file named old games

  • soz wrong mine jus say not responding and alot of giberish comes up

  • wtf mine says illegal command

  • How do you do a backwards slash? /

  • \ right above enter

  • Hi.

Can you help me I have a BIG problem.

I downloaded it to a file i named TES and then clicked on TES and then clicked on

    Arena106.

I then installed the files to my documents and at the end of the installation it said there was a problem and I should reinstall the file.

Can you help? I think I tried this before because im a big TES fan but it is just wierd.

    Thanks!

  • Why don't you call the folder 'arena'? Some games are pretty anal about that. Also, why did u put it in 'my documents'? Why not directly in 'c:\', instead of 'c:\my documents' (or whatever)?

  • ummmmmm..

Im not really the techno kinda person but i love the elder scrolls.

    But thanks for help!

  • someone plz message me and tell me how

im at the part where i just put in command on the run thing

where do i go from here?

    nothing works

    PLEASE HELP

  • Thanks man!

  • thank you very much to make this video!!!

  • No Problem, glad it helped!

  • Thanjks dude this video helped so much!! can i make the game less laggy?

  • Yes, there are two ways you can go about this, first: Press f12 until the desired FPS (frames per second)

Alternative: Access your config file (under dosbox in program files) using a text editor and change to (default for most pcs)

    core=auto

    cycles=15000

    cycleup=500

    cycledown=250

These are all variably augmentative and will probably have to be adjusted depending on your system specs.

    Hope this helps!

  • this is a great video :)

  • You are very kind, Thank you! :)

I knew the annotations would be helpful, ask for additional advice if need be...

  • it does not work =(

  • How so?

    What is your problem?

  • when i play this game, it is really choppy and laggy, what do i do for a smoother performance?

  • You need to increase the frames to around 20000. Before you put dosbox in fullscreen you'll see it on top. Ctrl F12

  • Ohhhh, ouch, you are a bit off there!

Alter your .con file or set fps to 10000, about half of what was recommended...

  • I dunno I find 18 to 20k is a nice speed and I have a pretty good Pc so running games in Dosbox isnt an issue. The NPCs do move kinda fast though lol

  • Guess so, I prefer to run the game a little slower so that I have a strategic jump on the bitches! :)

  • after i do the last step it just stops..

it doesnt load anything what should i do?im sorry im new at this

  • Ok i got it to c:\ but when i type in cd\arena it says "Unable to change to: \arena." soo what do i do?

  • I' get something together for you, as well.

  • Don't worry about it, i found out shortly after i left the comment that i just skip that step for some reason, i just type arena after i set it to c\ lol.

    Thanks though.

  • Alright, glad to be of help, and enjoy the game!

  • How would one do this with a CD?

  • Well, I am not quite certain, You SHOULD crack the disk and place the contents into a folder specified "ARENA", patch your game, and follow the instructions..

  • Also where can I get patches for Arena & Daggerfall, and how do I use a patch with/on a MSDOS game?

  • How do I quick save in Arena? I died after resting where the ruby key was and was killed by some NPC. Also where can I get a sword and armor?

  • Errr... Why don't you watch a few of my other videos...

  • you sold mack a tutorial on how 2 download the game.

  • Errrrr...

IF by "sold mack", you mean "should make", by all means, read the description...

  • it was a typo!!!!

  • Lol, it's fine...

  • dude you have to help me play daggerfall, i can't even seem to install it because i don't have mscdex?? i am confused as hell

  • Ha! Don't worry, I'll get something together for you.

  • i have mount z how do i get mount c?

  • Please Read DESCRIPTION!

  • this help alot the readme in the files didnt make sense but the game itself is kinda laggy

  • You're Welcome, I'm glad to know that this aided someone!

  • wheres the dosgame folder?

  • Please Read the desciption....

  • sry then

  • Jk, dude!!! Seriously, Please read the instructions, if you have any further questions, do not Hesitate...

  • how do u do : in dosbox?

  • Read Description, MO' Fucka! Jk, please read description

  • How do you exit DOSbox? I press every button and my cursor dissapeared...

  • How do you can run it with a cd?

  • I would recommend you crack the disc (that is, pull all the content from the disc to your hard drive), and patch it, then speak to me...

  • Can you tell me how do you do that?

  • I finally made the game work doing the following: where I installed the emulator I created a folder named "Games", in which I installed Arena. Then I opened the emulator and typed: mount c games

    c:

    cd arena

    arena

..and voila! I found this on a site. It is similar to what Boghman did, but I can't figure out why his method didn't work for neither me, nor even some of you. :(

I hope this will be of some help.

  • This is what I have been saying for months, if people would merely open their hears (or perhaps eyes)...

  • i did what boghman22 sed and it wouldn't work

i downloaded it off the bethesda website so here is my way of doing it

    mount c c:/arena

    c:/

    arena

  • The correct method is as follows:

    mount c c:\arena

    c:\

CD\ARENA (THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE MISSING)

    arena

  • does it work the same if you download it?

  • Even Better...

  • A shame it has a framerate of 1,5 on my PC.

  • Press F12 until the framrate increases, and read the other comments, please, you will find all your answers in those, as well.

  • whenever I try to mount c:\Arena, it says c: doesn't exist, even when I do EXACTLY as directed by the installation instructions

  • Type The Following:

    mount c c:/arena (press enter)

    C:/ (press enter)

    cd/arena (press enter)

  • Or you can just unzip it as it is...

but then you have to do it with testdrive I think.

  • No, the file self-extract to "ARENA" in the direct local drive...

This is default, and recommended, however, I use an extra folder to prevent clutter...

  • is that video game or \dosgame

    and is that a '

  • First, if you are having trouble seeing the text, then change the size format with the icons at the bottom of the player...

Secondly, if your game is not located in an extra folder...>:(...JUST READ THE DESCRIPTION!!!

  • it doesn't work for me and I don't know why? when I type cd\arena it says "illegal comand" :(

please tell me what i've done wrong

  • What drive did you mount?

ONLY mount "C" drive if you have not moved the file "ARENA" into any specified folder...

  • OMG thank you SOOOO MUCH!!!!

  • Merely going my job, and you're very welcome...

  • i can mount it but then it puts

    z:>c:

    c:/>

but i have the download version

  • where do i find daggerfall

  • You can't, unless you would like to become a fellon...

Ebay it and message me, it's a bitch to get running...

  • Or if you already own it from years ago before you even knew about it due to parents, then it'd be legal to download it. =D

Such joy to have a literal gamer father to buy all of the classics.

    I claim luck.

  • That as well...

  • That as well...

  • That as well...

  • This is what I do. I redamed my Dosbox file folder doser(you can name it anything)make sure the arena file is IN your dos box folder

    typle mount c c:\doser

    then c:

    then cd\arena

then arena to start the game

    should work fine

  • wats the name of the game file cas when im typeing in cd\arena it says unable to change to arena wats wrong?

  • what do you mean by mount c?

  • I advise that you just type it...OR I could give you a dreadfully long, drawn out explanation describing every single command.

don't type "mount c", you should instead type "mount c c:\". (note the slashes are backwards)...

  • yes

  • first, make sure that you have set your cicles (provided below), and type the following:

    mount c c:\ (press enter)

    c:\ (press enter)

cd\arena (make sure that the game is contained in "ARENA", press enter)

    Arena (press enter)

  • The cycles can be altered in your dosbox config file, in the dosbox file under C:\program files (just open it w/ notepad):

    core=auto

    cycles=max

    cycleup=500

    cycledown=500

    timesynched=true

That'll take care of it. If you still get slowdown, then it's a case of your CPU not being fast enough to emulate it.

Lower the cycles to lower the framerate. Enjoy!!!

  • i have a question.

every time i try to do cd\arena, i cant do the \. / doesnt work.

  • hmmmm

    what is your game directory?

  • c:/ or something like that. It says to write cd\arena in command

  • ok, do you have the file "arena" in your directory?

  • windows pc 2000

  • soz i had mount spelt wrong but now it sayd c doesnt exist

  • i did the first command and it said it was illegal

  • is it okay to run this game on Windows XP?

  • Absolutely, You can run Daggerfall too (although, one needs a special cvs dosbox emulator to do that because the game is so damn large)...

  • just wondering where do i get a dosbox emulator like that?

  • Read the description!!!!!

It details all the steps on how to get this game up and running!

  • Is this for the bought CD version or for the free downloadable version?

  • It doesn't matter, but I own both.

I recommend the download because it is "play-ready", in other words, you have all of the patches installed and ready to go.

  • Ok, thanks. I'll probably go for the downloadable version.

  • It's free, so.....Go ahead, the download is only about 22 megs, and is fully patched

  • can you post something else a little easir to understand like right it out please it so hard

  • This is for anyone whom is having trouble with getting arena to start, it demonstrates how to get arena going after you have dosbox installed,
