  • GOD DAMN, I SAW PINK FLOYD, DEEP PURPLE, OZZY, IRON MAIDEN AND A LOT MORE THERE, THE 80S WERE GREAT AT THE DOME

  • And soon my beloved Mellon will go the same way... God this sucks

  • my dad saw kiss there in 1976

  • Don't forget all the rodeos, truck pulls and monster trucks by the Chandlers who invented Bigfoot. Many memories are here. A real sad place to see now.

  • was that the blues arena?

  • @hanmerboys Yes

  • was this place called the Checkerdome?

  • @sghtes Yes

  • @sghtes it was yes...Ralston-Purina had owned it for a brief period and it was called that

  • Twin Towers went down exactly like that

  • @TR3Y4LI4E Shut the fuck up!

  • I saw my first concert there, it was Sam the Sham. I saw Willie Nelson and Alice Cooper there too. Sadly missed

  • @xcellant someone's age is showing thru there hehehe Sam the Sham....wow

  • @00RSZEX Oh yea, and that was by myself. I went to the police circus there and say the 3 stooges, right after going to forrest park highlands, definately showing my age now :}

  • Ooops. The comment didn't come up at first!

  • Even though I was young I miss the old arena. I watched it come down.

  • Even though I was young I miss the old arena. I watched it come down.

  • saw U2 in oct. 1987 here. cards were playing the twins in the world series. bono came on stage wearing a cards jacket

  • so sad!

  • Nothing better than going to hockey games with my old man there. Best memories ever.

  • u know what u should do is show this and play tha song that says "only talk'in about the good times

  • sadly i never was able to see that place but I wish it was still up. If I were the city I would have bought it.

  • haha my great grandad John c. Hemphill and the hemphill contruction company blew this building up

  • it was loud as hell at the old job at hardees. the good ole days r.i.p checker dome

  • i was there for that, ugh, sad sad day. I love it, we can keep old bullet holed buildings in downtown, but not the St. Louis Arena? yikes.

  • bit of my childhood died that day

so many blues games and even a few spirits games from the old ABA

not to mention all the kick ass concerts I saw at the barn, Rush, Van Halen

noplace rocked like the old arena

  • I read that the group which built/owned the scottrade center said they wouldn't let the arena be used for competing commercial events while its insurance was being paid off. The city wanted to keep the building, but when someone attempted to buy the property, the other group forced the city to plan the demolition. Can you believe that? If i was a St. Louis sports fan, i would've been pissed. (Of course, i'm a leafs fan, so i'm used to corporate greed and callousness.)

  • Sad day!

  • Every time I see this I almost cry. The BEST place for a hockey game. The Blues died a little that day.

  • i remember that when this arena was closed, there was a light in the LED board that stayed on forever lol.

i went down there to see them implode the arena in person. i was 9 at the time so i had never been in there. it was truly a sight to see though

  • Can someone say one damm thing about the St.Louis Blues and this arena.

  • So many great wrestling moments in this building. Brusier Brody had one of his best matches against Ric Flair. Harley Race, The Von Erics, Jerry Blackwell and others made this place the arena to be at back in the 1980's

  • I was down there...it was something indeed

  • I was lucky enough to play in the Arena during our Mid States High School playoffs 1979 1980. Pretty cool to think I got to skate in the same building as so many hockey greats.

  • and the ironic thing is they forgot there was a Michael Bolton concert going on in there so it wasnt a total loss

  • i hate what they did to the st louis arena.a pice of history is now in ruins.........

  • Another old NHL arena gone, there goes another piece of history. So sad.

  • ah shit

  • that was pretty sweeeet

  • omg, was that the st. louis blues arena?

  • yea i remember watching this on tv when i was five. i never saw a game there and i was just as upset as everyone else

  • That still hurts. Not there's an eye soar of a complex there. Blah!

  • Certainly was a shame to see it fall. I was there in person. Got a lot of good sequence shots from the southeast corner with my Minolta X700 35mm. Auto winders rock!!! Just hold down the button. :) I should auction off a T-shirt I got from the week it went down. KSHE95 made some memorial shirts that said, "Goodnight Everyone and Drive Safe" with a picture of the building on the front. The back had every rock band that ever played a show there and the date of the show.

  • THat is a holy site

  • Im still trying to figure out why they did that. The mayor at the time did not care at all about the history that laid inside that building.

  • Or because it wasn't allowed to compete with what is now the Scottrade Center for any events, and thus it couldn't make any money.

  • well i realize that, but why couldnt they just keep the building there. the kiel was open for four years before they imploded the building. it was just nice to see some history still standing.

  • There were murmurs of a plan to turn the place into an aquarium! But public health concerns kept much from going on. As much as I loved the old barn, I couldn't watch it disintegrate for longer than it did.

  • That still brings a tear to my eye.
