@blkbishop112 it has been kept quite, witnesses said there were about a 100 black youths running from the North side of the bridge when the shots were heard. Police said there were no shell casings found but a construction worker found casings on Frazier. It has become very dangerous around Coolidge Park.
Im being raised in chatanooga (east ridge) And love it. Btw my fave thing about chattanooga is in the downtown part you can go downhill surfing on cardboard (i just take the trucks off my skate board and wax it up :3)
According to FBI statistics, TN is the number one most corrupt state. I wish it weren't because it's a beautiful place to visit. Especially Chattanooga. I'd live there if it weren't for the corruption and crime.
I remember riding across the walnut street bridge in the 1970"s, when it was still open for traffic. me and my brother were kids then. Now it's a walking bridge.
I have been to San Francisco. Per Capitol, Chattaxnooga has twice as many bums.
How many rapes have been covered up downtown? Have you already forgotten about the Tennessee Waltz? Taxpayers are forced by Hamilton County to give Volkswagen one billion dollars in tax breaks for 2000 jobs, while our taxes continue to climb. I was forced out of my home that I worked 30 years to buy, 6000,00 dollars a year property taxes, sewer taxes, storm water run off, etc.
Billy Long, crime in the city. Homeless capitol of the world. Come and get a parking ticket, panhandled, and taxed. Hurry, we need visitors to pay for another park. We have parks, but no people. Schools are great, a fight or two never stops the learning. School board is comical, city council will rubber stamp any spending increase.
I am in &%$#* Indiana now and missing my hometown of Chattanooga. I was born and raised mostly in north Chattanooga on Stringers Ridge. Believe me folks, move to Indiana and you will really appreciate what you had or have in Chattanooga. Its nothing super special, but it has a certain mystique that you don`t get in other places. Thanks for posting.
@bvick777 I live in Indiana. And there is little to no crime rate except in Northwest Indiana. I am not a fan of it either here, but from what I hear about crime rates in chattanooga, I don't know if it's any better than anything in Indiana. The scenery is probably better, but I can't see that anything else can be.
@Kometsfan2007 Yeah, Northwest Indiana is where I live too, Crown Point to be precise. I have to agree with you about what you said about Chattanooga. Being that I lived there most of my life, I still pull up the Chattanoogan on the internet to see whats going on..sheesh..its like looking at a Chicago newspaper anymore. Drive by shooting getting out of control, many being just shot in the head while in their car, usually over drugs. Here in Crown Point, the gangs seem to be coming over here.
@bvick777 So yeah its getting to the point where I don`t think I ever be moving back to Chattanooga, may move to a small town called Englewood where my mom currently lives. Its more or less still just a small country town with one main grocery store..lol. So hopefully there won`t be much attraction there for gang bangers to want to come and harass and murder everyone. Its sad how law enforcement more or less has its hands tied on getting these dirt bags off the street.
@bvick777 It's a small world. My girlfriend's entire family lives in Crown Point. Technically Cedar Lake, but close enough. Lol. I am supposed to go to Chattanooga on a vacation week-end this month, but am honestly a little worried about it. Lol. If crime is really as bad as it sounds down there. I live in Terre Haute, IN right now, and am kind of re-thinking my decision to go down to Chattanooga. Lol. Any suggestions on what to avoid or go see?
@Kometsfan2007 Chattanooga has its problems but it is nowhere near as crime laden as some people have painted it to be. I ride everywhere, even the seedier areas, and nothing happens. The crime that is committed always done to other criminals, there are no innocent bystanders being killed. Other than that, it's a great city to visit and live in.
@Africana3789 Bullshit, Chattanooga's crime rate per capita is higher than Atlanta or Detroit. Gangbangers are everywhere in the tourist areas. How many shootings have we had in the last month Kometsfan? Tell the truth, you may save someone's life.
@brainerdrebel Higher than Atlanta or Detroit? Are you just reading numbers or have you ever been to those cities? Do you know anyone in those cities? The crime rate is nowhere near as high as ATL or Detroit. You have idiots everywhere and it is dangerous but more dangerous than anywhere else? No. What tourists have been shot by gangbangers? Mostly gangsters kill other gangsters.
@Africana3789 Let's see we had a lady at Warehouse Row kidnapped and raped repeatedly by both a man and a woman. Statistics don't lie. A bystander was shot at the strut a few years ago. Per Capita is the key term , yes, Chattanooga's crime rate per capita is higher than Atlanta or Detroit. A man shot sitting on his porch. Accept the facts.
@brainerdrebel That police officer was shot and killed by someone who was not even a Chattanoogan nor were they in a gang. I'm not arguing that Chattanooga is a dangerous place, I and anyone else who lives here is well aware of that fact. America is a violent and dangerous place no matter what city you are in. You are making it as if Chattanooga is the most dangerous place in America, which is ridiculous. You act like if I step outside my house it's a 99% chance that I'm gonna get shot.
@Africana3789, people need to know the truth. Putting a positive spin on Chatt won't change the facts. I personally blame our city government, Littlefield in particular, the city refused several years ago to address the gang issue, saying,we didn't have gangs. Tourists coming to Chatt need to know when and where to be on the lookout for crime. Sadly, right now it is the downtown area.
@brainerdrebel The government is partially to blame because they don't take any active measures against the criminal element in the city and it almost seems like they encourage it in underhanded ways. There are many people walking around that should be locked up and many people locked up that should be walking around. The sole issue is not gangs though. There have been many crimes reported on the news that have been attributed to gangs that I know, personally, had nothing to do with them.
@Africana3789 I agree, the Police in Chatt are revenue oriented, they would rather give you a ticket than stop a crime. Publicity from crimes gives government free advertisement to increase taxes and ask for more revenue. Chatt City Government is corrupt to the core. Littlefield buys the old farmers market for 750,000 from a campaign donor of his, 220,000 was owned to the city in back taxes and it is a brown field. The property was bought for 125,000 and then sold to the 750,000 .
@brainerdrebel Wow, I knew they were corrupt just didn't know the specifics. I'm assuming by your name that you live in Brainerd, how hard were you hit by the storm?
It's really odd when people that aren't from Chattanooga talk about how much they love it once they get there. To me, it's nothing special. It's really pretty, in certain parts. But it's just another town.
I love Chattanooga, born and raised there, but in Alabama now...someone should get footage of Missionary Ridge and put on You Tube..I use to live at the bottom of the ridge
I LOVE Chattanooga! We always stopped there on the way to Florida from Ohio. My dad loves trains, so I have ridden the Chattanooga Choo-Choo. And I've done the incline. And a few other tourist-trap style things.
Awesome, it's growing. I got a video coming of the Incline, haven't put it all together yet, it's still on my computer. So you did Rock City and Ruby Falls?

I was raised there, and recently had to move to Cleveland. (like 30 miles Northish)
I went to school in Downtown Chatt, basically, and we would get to go around town and stuff when we had special days we could go out for lunch.
We also got to run around Coolidge Park for gym sometimes. =/
