★★This is a goo vid I've been a chef for 4 years and I will say there is a shortage of good chefs out there. If anyone is thinking about Culinary School I say go for it. here's the number to the school I went to (888)652-6339
Oh Le Cordon Bleu sucks but I do have to say I have a special relationship with this girl name Salli Mae. We started are relationship there. She calls me up a lot asking for 450 bucks for each month for the next 15 years. All in all I guess it was a good school because I need a place to eat now sense I cant afford food lol.
Culinary schools are a huge rip off along with all of these other private institutes. I would save a few hundred grand from not going to school and just go work at a restaurant. There for you will realize it sucks and there is no money in it. If you want work around a bunch of dope heads and work shitty hours with out health insurance this might be your gig.
that for being humble. yes, you are not a chef when you graduate and it takes time... i went to two culinary schools and every student thinks their school is the best, which is stupid because unless you go to every school how do you know which one is the best.
I really enjoyed this video! I attend Le Cordon Bleu in Dallas Texas and the experience I am having is amazing. There have been a few ups and downs, but overall I wouldnt trade it. Im so glad you mentioned the fact that just because you graduate does not mean you are a chef automatically. The is the mind set of alot of students when they start culinary school. You graduate with a degree and skills and thats it.
I am a current student at FCI, but the thing I learned was when you apply towards CIA the admissions dept. told me that I needed to have some exp in the food biz at least 6 months before you apply. But I'm not sure now. I could be wrong.
@sil3ntlove yes you need to have atleast 6 months experience in food service. From what I read once you can apply if you dont have the experience, but it could be a long while before you get accepted into the program
i wanted to go to the FCI or CIA in NY. They're both costly but have discounts for certain things. Isn't it kinda hard to get accepted into the school? Was there a lot of people? I'm only a sophmore in Hs but i love pastry and sweets :D Do you bring a book to write down stuff or try to memorize? I heard that most culinary schools have a job search in the school log, like if you want a job you can ask the school to help you find one. How'd you get grants and scholarships?
you helped me alot with this explanation thank you. Actually Im studing bussines ad. but i want to do the same as you run my own restaurant without being a chef but i want to know everythig about the food industry... i just don't feel that the bussines ad major is going to help me alot with what i want to do that is to have restaurants...
im a sophmore in a technical highschool, but the way my school goes is its 2 or 3 weeks in culinary class, then it switches over to 2 or 3 weeks in academic class through out the year an it keeps going back and fourth like that, im hoping i can make it to the CIA or johnsons and wales :)
Where do you stay if your an international student and the school has a holiday durning your degree. Where can i find more information on international students going to the CIA.
my cousin went there ('04 grad), imagine the most manliest man becoming a pastry chef, long story short he became a executive chef for Wolfgang Puck in California and now he's going to the Finland/Denmark area of the world... I wanna go there too, but I heard you have to have a job in the industry for a minimum of 6 months before going that isn't fast food, yay for me in this economy and my location, all we have are fast food -.-
@Abercrombie432 I don't know if anyone answered your question yet or not but you need at least 6 months of experience in a restaurant. So if you do, then yea you could got straight into the CIA (of course meeting all the academic requirements) right after H.S.
Although, I am not able to attend CiA, because of the location out of town, I am very glad you made this video, it really gave me an idea of SOME of the things to expect! I'm very nervous, so now I kinda know what im in for! THANKS AGAIN
lollllll swatches! u look so cute and this was fun n interesting
i really like how you emphasized that just cause you graduate doesn't automatically make u a chef or a professional but it's about your passion and hardwork and what you do with your schooling afterwards ~ good words and inspirational!!!!!
good luck and i hope you graduate with flying colors!
I applied there. They gave me like $30,000 in scholarships.. but they pushed my entry date back from October to January, and then to March. I had applied over a year early. I was going to be going straight out of highschool and wasn't about to be spending another 6 months on my ass. Personally I was extremely disappointed by how poorly they handled the overflow of applicants and I feel like the program is incredibly overpriced.
i would be too scared to go to culinary school. knowing that only a few will make it scares me. thats probably the biggest reason why im getting into medical. with the strive and passion that you have, youll definitely make it far! one day we'll see you on the food channel. chef jinahhchae! aha
97% failure rate?!?!? Hope you make it yeeesh! I'd play it safe and go for a career with better odds but maybe thats coz im not as passionate about being a pro cook. Technology and nurses are always in demand.
how well did you do during highschool and your sats to get into ucsd? it would be lovely if made a video about highschool or something around there. : )
I really enjoyed your Vblog . Here I thought makeup was your passion but I guess it's just a hobby. Whatever the case you are very talented and cooking and being a makeup artist require some kind of artistic ability which you do have so good luck in school and also, what kind of restaurant would you like to have? Thanks.
I live in southern cali.. culinary arts of america is in north america ugh D: sucks so bad..campus looks beautiful
