If the child had cancer, I hope that there was $50k in those bootstraps. No one said we shouldn't try to be self sufficient. But it's a myth that self sufficiency is always going to work. What happens if a person does his best and it still isn't enough? Even if you don't care about preventing needless death and medical complications among the country's most vulnerable, it's more cost effective for all to have ongoing health care.

emergency rooms don't offer treatment for chronic illnesses. just "emergencies." Obviously, you have never had to deal with a situation like that, or you would know that a couple of month's worth of savings won't cut it. By the way, I used to work in insurance, and i know that if you are getting a new policy, they pay very little, if anything for pre-existing conditions. This more than a hypothetical, this is a fucking reality faced by a hell of a lot of people.

It works in other countries. And, by the way, "No one gets turned away at the emergency room" is not an adequate substitute for ongoing health care. Emergency treatment is limited in scope. If you're a diabetic, you can't look to the ER to oversee your condition. Ditto for asthma. Ditto for heart disease, hypertension, renal insufficiency, psychiatric disorders, etc. People need HEALTH CARE, not just ER treatment.

I am talking STRICTLY in regards to this "reporting" and this is truly unprofessional. This turned from an interview (after he only got 10 seconds to talk) to a defense for the government. I have not checked, but my guess is that it is FOX. However, if you are trying to point out the validity of FOX as a news organization purely by numbers of viewers, remember that for centuries, the majority of people in the world thought the Earth was flat and that the sun revolved around us. The majority of Germans supported Hitler. Numbers do not impress me. And if so many Americans watch FOX and buy into them, how did Obama hand McCain his ass in the election?

I don;t think there is an organized gov, in history that has not spent money. I am okay with money spent on job creation, infrastructure, and something that will encourage growth. I don;t think anybody likes bailing out Wall St. But with our current financial system, how do you let these institutions fail without us going into a real black hole?

Because, according to his plan, he will have amassed more debt in approximately 20 months than all the previous presidents COMBINED. With his rubber stamps from Pelosi and Reid we can't afford to wait more than 3 months. It speaks volumes about him (and the republicans and libertarians inability to provide an alternative) that thousands are taking to the streets under the 100 day mark, now that the campaign is over and his true nature can be revealed. Buyer's remorse is kicking in.

By what definition do you use the term "created this mess"? Bush spent alot, creating things like the DHS and all, and I disagreed with him on plenty, but he was far from the "creator" of the mess.

And, I bring up the Bush stuff because I am trying to figure out why the sudden outrage. And his stupid ass war is STILL costing us billions a month. The man may be gone, but his legacy lives on. And why don;t the tea people bring up some real legitimate concerns about Obama, like his lack of transperency about the NSA programs. That is scary and potentially fascist but they don't talk about it. Why not?

You know, I have to wonder what would happen if, God forbid, this guy in the video was laid off from his job, lost his health insurance, and his little girl became seriously ill? Would he have to have a bake sale to try and raise money for her medical care? I wonder how frivolous he would think Gov. spending on social programs was.

If the child had cancer, I hope that there was $50k in those bootstraps. I know plenty of people who work hard, work their asses off, but make just enough money to pay rent or mortgage and take care of life's small unexpected emergencies. So, assuming you were in a similar situation, how would you "pull yourself up by your bootstraps?" Work hard at 2 or 3 low paying jobs while your child dies? You think that would do it? Where are you getting these jobs when thousands lose them everyday?

A) there's nothing about assembling a filet o fish that's worth more than minimum wage
B) If you have actual bills and still work at McD's you should be removed from the gene pool.
C) Hannity HAS done food service, and painting, and construction work, and internships, while he was educating himself and building the skills necessary to run a radio show, tv program, numerous concert and give countless dollars worth of charity support.

and, if it is so easy to just get a job with insurance, why are hundreds of thousands losing their jobs now? good for hannity, why does he not have a little compassion for people who work hard and still can't make ends meet? Maybe we would have better jobs if they were not outsourced to India. It all comes down to money and ideology being more important than people. I guess the elderly woman working at the Juneau Mcdonalds because her husband died, should just remove herself from the gene pool.

You're living in a fantasy world. You can't make serious illness magically disappear, just by keeping a can-do attitude. And it's a physiological impossibility to pull oneself up by the bootstraps. You guys love to preach sermons about self sufficiency, but I notice that, when a real problem is presented to you, you never seem to have any solutions---just bumper sticker slogans. Which won't cut it in a real disaster.

No one said we shouldn't try to be self sufficient. But it's a myth that self sufficiency is always going to work. What happens if a person does his best and it still isn't enough? Even if you don't care about preventing needless death and medical complications among the country's most vulnerable, it's more cost effective for all to have ongoing health care.

Oh yay! Let's go to hypotheticals! Life sucks, but your lung cancer is not my responsibility. It's called saving and educating yourself for a worthwhile job. I'd wager most of the people at these tea parties AND the fair tax rallies have a few months worth of money saved up, like myself. The "seriously ill" part is laughable, no emergency room would turn them away (not until they're socialized, anyway), and you don't have to look hard to find a job with some form of health insurance.

emergency rooms don't offer treatment for chronic illnesses. just "emergencies." Obviously, you have never had to deal with a situation like that, or you would know that a couple of month's worth of savings won't cut it. By the way, I used to work in insurance, and i know that if you are getting a new policy, they pay very little, if anything for pre-existing conditions. This more than a hypothetical, this is a fucking reality faced by a hell of a lot of people.

You are absolutely right...no one gets turned away at the emergency room...medicine is already socialized...we pay the costs of those who can't by paying higher premiums, fees, etc. Why would we want to encourage people to NOT try to get a job with health insurance by providing it without working...something is seriously WRONG with this whole thing....

It works in other countries. And, by the way, "No one gets turned away at the emergency room" is not an adequate substitute for ongoing health care. Emergency treatment is limited in scope. If you're a diabetic, you can't look to the ER to oversee your condition. Ditto for asthma. Ditto for heart disease, hypertension, renal insufficiency, psychiatric disorders, etc. People need HEALTH CARE, not just ER treatment.

Actually, some Americans ARE going to other countries for expensive surgeries. As for your sneer about Canadian health care, don't knock it until you've tried it. If you're basing your opinion on a handful of horror stories, just remember that they're hearing horror stories about us, too---for example, that uninsured Americans end up dying of of untreated diseases.
