Here in the states a some college students were protesting peacefully against corporate greed (their slogan is "we are the 99%"), cops peppersprayed them for not leaving the area. It was a national outrage!

The police were not taking any rights away by stopping the people protesting at Occupy Wall Street, but the protesters were stopping traffic and very clearly disrupting the public. Protests are PERFECTLY legal, rioting and stopping cars in the middle of streets is NOT legal. End of story.

They did not stop traffic, as it was 4 in the morning and on one, singular street, and they were ONLY on the road because the cops had encircled their encampment. They would have stayed in the park, and continued their PEACEFUL civil disobedience if they had not been threatened by a 1000+ cops in riot gear doing a show of force. It's not the end of the story. Inform yourself before you form an opinion.
