@gorillacolt - Bold is right about the brick wall, but it was a bunch of live stills of kids posing and it made a type of animation sequence At one point it was a little boy reading a book, and a row of girls sitting next to him all trying to see what he was reading. And at the end it was a boy giving a flower to a girl. I remember the narrarator saying something at the end like "close up". One of my fav PSA's from KTVU because it wasn't shown alot.
@gorrillacolt Hey, I think I remember the one you're talking about--Was it about the kids who were outside of the brick wall and there was ,like,a fancy park on the other side and at the end they find a door or gate and they all up playing at the end? the "Yellow Submarine"-type animation is what I remember..I think the Message was supposed to be about exclusion/segregation and how it was wrong. Honestly,I thought I was the only one that ever saw that!
@bold810 almost, but i think we are thinking of the same thing it was all together now that was playing!! i want to see that so bad. glad someone else remembers that. great memories if anyone know were i can find that PLEASE let me know.
Nice clip - My kids totally into puppets and cats - they got into them by clip on youtube - the pom pom kittens - if havent seen the show check it out by searching youtube - the pom pom kittens
Thank you SF Chronicle and an even BIGGER THANK YOU to Mr. Pat McCormick! This will forever be special to me (and my children!). Can you share the one about Bee's?
I'm tellin ya, GEEDUP315... you are so right! And not only in the Bay, but EVERYWHERE KTVU was on the local cable systems. I watched these daily waaayyyy up in Humboldt County, thanks to Cablevision! :-)
I've lived in many cities; only 6 months in SanFran as a kid.
KTVU and "Charley & Humphrey." Now, THAT was something special!
Even though I'd be more familiar with WPIX(New York) and WUTV(Buffalo)... they can't hold a CANDLE to that Bay Area powerhouse of whom it is said, "There's only one 2!"
SENDYOSHIT: That's the one I really wanna see again! "Charles, a herd of bees is chasin me!" "A HERD of bees?" "You've heard of bees?" "Yes." "Well, a herd of 'em is CHASIN me!" "Well, what did you do to rile 'em up?" "I DIDN'T DO NOTHIN! Poked a stick in their hive, got some honey." "Well that'll rile em up! I mean, that'll make a bee mad! Y'know, if you leave the honeybees alone they won't bother you! And besides, they're useful for pollenation and all, and did you know that out of all the
world's insects, only honeybees produce food that humans eat, and -- uh -- whoopsie... a ... a honeybee just... just landed on my back leg. Now, if we just leave him alone, he'll fly away." "Well, how about if I kick him off?"
Kids nowadays have no idea what it's like to be a kid with all their PS3's and XBoxes. I remember watching all these shows and actually learning something and playing in the streets "cops and robbers", "hide and seek" and bike riding all day...LOL!!!!!!
These are great memories for us kids that grew up in the Bay.
CIRCUSGUY: Yes, I read that too, and that he retired to a remote area, and does not prefer to associate with himself with anything having to do with his former career. Must have been very stressful for him. Sure would mean alot to the kids he "spoke" to all those years if he would just poke his head out every now and then.
If I could have anything on DVD, it would be an entire collection of Captain Cosmics complete with all the cartoons, commercials and shorts.
