Dear God, are you serious? You know my man Sugarfoot? haha I started drumming with him (playing with my albums) as a 12 yr old white girl back in the day and continued for years!! Im very glad to meet you. Ive never been able to speak to SugarFoot in my life. I always always wanted to tell him what a fan I was, with YouTube maybe I can express it today. He will always mean the world to me. Wheres thier fan page, or fan email please?? :) Thankyou. <3
No matter what their differences I will always love and have a place in my heart for The Ohio Players. they fused Jazz with funk, with Rock and church like harmonies. they inspired and there music continues to inspire me to this day. i wish them all well.
ive said it before and ill say it again- the ohio players is the best band ive ever heard- ever. the rolling stones and beatles cant hold a candle to them. sugarfoot is one of the best guitarist ive ever heard. when they come back to chicago, im taking my son to see them to show him how real band plays and you wont get to hear singing like this on modern radio. thanks for posting the vid.
I think people forget that there were many variations of Ohio Players, they have never called themselves" The Ohio Players". Ohio Untouchables, Ohio Players ( observa-
tion in time), then The Westbound Ohio Players. Greg, Sugar, Satch, Pee Wee, Marshall, Dale, and sometimes Bruce and or Merv and Chet. Then the Mercury Players of course who we all now know with Diamond and Billy. Let's not talk about the Arista years. All standing members names went on all of the songs regardless.
So I went to recent Ohio Players show only to discover that Sugar was no longer in the band (The band I saw featured Diamond, Chet, Billy and Robert). I discovered that he went on to form "Sugarfoot's Ohio Players." But I can't find any info anywhere on the net about why he left the group and why there are now TWO Ohio Players outfits out and about touring and performing their classic hits! Anybody know why he split from the group?!
i wish sugerfoot get back with billy beck and diamond, because in my opinion that would make it official. the ohioplayers are back, instead of being separate acts. original members of op forever.
The following goes for pretty much ALL of the Classic Funk Bands of the 70's ... It was the Collective that made them what they were, because as we have all seen by and large -when they go solo or form other groups etc..
yall still on that shit? i stand behind every word i wrote, if billy beck never wrote skin tight sugar would have never had a major hit . say what ever you want but the real ohio player fans know the truth so believe what you want. billy beck will always be the man behind those hits and foot will be the voice in front of those hits. when the book comes out you can all by a copy and read the truth for yourselfs
if billy beck never wrote those hits sugar would still be a backround singer , without skin tight, fire, the players stop with junnies hits, and sugar never sung lead on any one of those songs.
man you are stupid vdaddy and ignorant........b4 skin tight? ha ha ha....who sang cold world, summertime, the first line of funky worm, valree is love, our love has died....get your facts man........dont be so ignorant.......but anyway....it doesent really matter who wrote what.......the fans STILL LUV SUGA.........thanks
Hi mrsmusiclover dont worry about ignorant people like this, he is just an ignorant motherfucker. i have been following your comments with him, i dont know what his beef is with mr sugarfoot your uncle but he is the man and fans all over the place still love sugarfoot, why is he hatin so much on sugarfoot, he is so busy worrying about sugarfoot, what difference does it make who wrote the songs, sugarfoot is the most noted ohio player and nobody can take that, he sang all the major op hits period
Hello Mrsmusiclover and vdaddy4143, ya'll are funny, just wanted to say that i love the music, and i just e-mailed sugarfoot, asking about the new DVD they did in Atlanta, so check this out, no matter who wrote what, or who sanged what..... that was real singing back then, and i wish the singers now and days would mean something in their songs... ya'll be good to each other and have a blessed thanksgiving 2009... Look at God this year is almost gone and Sugarfoot is still here.........Love him
Mrsmusiclover. Croon3. My sister, your uncle is "The Man" My uncle turned me on to the Ohio Players when he left Vietnam. I heard fire, runnin from the devil, smoke, and together and I was hooked. Every year I would go to Little rock ark. in the summer, my aunt Lillie Mae knew what I wanted: The latest OP album and would always get it for me. Your uncle made me love music. tell him I love him for that.
I was 14 in 1974 and the Players was it!!!!......thank you Sugarfoot, for all the wonderful memories.......and my all time favorite,......I wanna be free.
i never said bad things about one person first of all, and as far as the players surviving without beck i guess playing all of the songs he wrote help that along, how many hits did they have after he was gone, last time i checked 0, and they tried to record after him but nothing ever came out of that. sure sugarfoot is a superstar and i do respect him but billy beck put the players on the map and they are still working because of those hits he wrote. tell the truth and shame the devil.
(its a shame that sugarfoot and the rest of the players keep trying to act like billy beck had nothing to do with all of those hits) thats one person above (sugarfoot) as u stated his name on other post on other sites as well, mr vdaddy read what u r saying, if im not mistaken..billy was on the back album, not hit, he was on the graduation album no hit, live in atl, no hit..so maybe it wasnt just billy, he is talented, but not invinceable...they will b fine with or without him, no hard feelings
what hits? if you mean before beck, i am sure that those hits were junie morrisons and i was around and i do remember , please spare me the dramatics. billy beck is the only ohio player with a grammy don't that tell you somthing nephew. and i am not spreading rumors i am telling the truth. billy beck got ripped off . but it will all come out in his book, and that will not be bad rumors it will be, THE GREATEST LOVE OF ALL, FROM RAGS TO RICHS TO RAGS
im a girl first of all, and regardless of who it was, junie or sugar, it shows the players survived without billy (then and now). SUGARFOOT IS THE VOICE OF THE OHIO PLAYERS POINT BLANK.. even if billy did write them alone (didnt), it was my uncles voice that sold the song..that comes from the fans, not me.....i also ask my uncle, and he dont who u r were other than u r a guy who is going around saying bad things about him...so where were u? state the real reason they dont work wit beck, u know
its a shame that sugarfoot and the rest of the players keep trying to act like billy beck had nothing to do with all of those hits when they know that beck wrote all of the hits and they put their names on those songs. how do i know? billy beck is my best friend we grew up togather.
as for you vdaddy...... u r only going from what you heard, you werent there so you dont know FACTS....i was around....and besides that i have never heard my uncle (sugarfoot) say ANYTHING as if billy wasnt there or any other band memebers say that.....THEY ALL WERE THERE AND WROTE....also, u must remeber the band still had hits way b 4 billy joined......we dont want to start puttin personal info out about billy or no one else....so plz think b 4 u spread bad rumors and plz get ur facts str8
if june, satch, and sugar aint in it, it aint the ohio players but a canned charicature of the ohio players. leroy "sugarfoot" bonner is THE voice of the ohio players of the 1970s no dis to junie morrison. kinda like michael was THE voice of the jackson five even though jermain marlon and jackie were a lead singers in the group.
Sugarfoot: Another gifted, original, severely underrated, highly influencial artist. Helped bring the "Ows," "Oh Childs, "yeows" and the "huhs" deeply in in a soulful groove to 70/80s funk. He's an elder of music that should be honored by other musicians. "Runnin folks in the ditches, girl ya bouta buss yo stitches, yeow!" Skin Tight.! :-) yess. didn't get any better.
This is "Sugarfoot's" Ohio Players. Diamond, Chet, Dortch and Beck are running the "franchise" Ohio Players. So there are two versions running up and down the road. Just like the Coasters, Drifters, Platters etc.
I went to the legends of funk tour here in Dallas a couple of weeks ago. Sugarfoot is a stone cold playa. You can tell by his swag,,,,,,,,,,,Much love Ennis Texas
Thanks for the reply, ma'am. Yes, I DO get the picture. There are still zillions of us that continue to love Sugarfoot, The Ohio Players and the great music & good times they gave and continue to give us. My 6-year old daughter and 2 other (white) kids that I carpool to school every morning love FIRE!
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't a cat by the name of Junie the original lead singer of the Ohio Players? Remember songs like "Ecstasy", "Pain" and "Pleasure" and don't forget "Funky Worm" just to name a few. Oh yeah baby, I'm deep wit it!
U GOTTA GET A LIL DEEPER, JUNIE IS NOT EVEN ORIGINAL, SUGAR IS ORIGINAL, DIG DEEPER AND GET THE OBSERVATION IN TIME RECORD, NO JUNIE, 1ST IT WAS JUST SUGAR THEN SUGAR AND DUTCH ROBINSON, THE ALBUM THAT SUGAR SINGS SUMMERTIME, THATS THE VERY 1st OHIO PLAYERS RECORD EVER, THEY HIRED JUNIE A FEW YEARS LATER WHEN THEY WANTED A KEYBOARD PLAYER, THEN WHEN DUTCH LEFT, IT WAS SUGAR AND JUNIE, IN FACT THAT SUGAR SINGIN THE OPENIN LINE OF FUNKY WORM...(THERES A WORM IN THE GROUND) AND VALREE IS LOVE. TA.
You are absolutely correct. He went on to play with the Funk Mob with hits like, "One Nation" and "Aqua Boogie." For a real treat check out the hard to find "Varee is Love" and "World of Woe." You wont be disappointed!
what a pity this clip has such bad sound quality. I'd love to really hear the band on this....
