I'm getting one in a few weeks, when wal-mart gets them back in. I'm taking mine camping and when my son who is 7months now is older I'll give it to him. great video keep them coming.
@katkid134 i would suggest getting a different rifle for hunting i had it with me along with a 30/30 lever action. only reason i used the 410/22 (with 410 barrel on and slug) was cause it was very close you would have to be close to drop any size game with it
410s are awesome i deer hunt with mine only problem i have is i have to let them get close enough don't have the distance a "rifle" has notice it's quotes
you forgot one thing for this kit...a spare knife, you never know when you could be in a situation where you lose everything but the gun, which would mean you'd have everything BUT a knife, which is essentially necessary for proper survival.
about it's size due to being a youth model, you can get slip-on extended recoil pads like the one in the video from Limbsaver, Pachmayr, Butler Creek, ect if anyone wonders that.
@dunzerkug .410 is something like a .223 Remington in my experience, very light. but everyone takes recoil differently, everyone's different. for the .22 barrel, sure, it's even be good to 30 yards at tack driving.
I recently had a chance to pick on up cheap (near $100) and the .410 with 3" shells had harsh recoil, not friendly to a bad grip and the size makes a good grip a bit more difficult, though the .22LR barrel was just fine, but a scope is desired with how poor the plastic sights perform.
I have one, but it's an older model with walnut stocks so no storage for me and the sights are different, but a few things that may help you would be remove the cotton for tinder and replace with some firestarter sticks because they're water resistant and won't soak up moisture and burn longer.
Also you'll get a lot more lights from a small disposable lighter in a little waterproof container for about the same amount of space
@ HagenmanUSA I don't think they make it in an adult model the reason why I bought it was because of the size it makes a perfect backpack gun. I mean if I was going for an adult size you can get a Thompson center in those cali. but if your using it for a survival gun you will be better off buying the youth because of the size it still shoots normal shells its just more compact and for heavy brush and stalking that's what you want hope this helps. God Bless and Keep On Keep'in On!!!
if you chop the 410 barrel, you will likely regret it. The engineers that designed that gun knew what they were doing, and made it as short as they thought reasonable.
The 3 inches of packed length saved, will probably cost you a few meals when you need them most. If you haven't done it, I strongly suggest that you do not. For deer hunting, I've dropped bucks with a 22lr. Turkey hunting with it. You just have to hit the turkey in the spinal cord. Everyone else had a shotgun, I bagged dinner
want to mount a scope to the 22 but having trouble getting one to work for right hand shooter the sope either hits the scope or if you get mid raised mounts you still run out of travel adjustment when sighting in and yes we even got a hammer extention and still no luck !!!!!!! HELP
Awesome little rifles. I also use the same for survival/bushcraft. I have the wood stock chambered in .22 LR and 410. I also have one in synthetic, chambered in .22, 20 gauge, and .243 win. that I use all the time.
I'm thinking about getting this for my first gun. .22lr for practice on a budget while having the shotgun for when I get bored of the .22lr. Can't afford much else, and might as well get 2 guns for the price of one (cheap) one. Is this ok for a first gun?
@GTownIce312 - - Rossi/Taurus makes the scope mount that mounts in the same holes as the rear sight. I have the same rifle in wood, with a 4x scope. Ask your local gun dealer / sporting goods, or call rossi. rossiusa . com
You may want to try toilet paper as an alternative to cotton balls for a fuel source since you can fit more of that folded than cotton balls and you get the same burn time...
I think I would leave the butt cap that came with the gun on it. I think it is a good idea to remove the screws but I would use some duct tape to secure it. I would place several strips across the cap and then wrap several wraps of tape around it. Double over the last inch or so to make it easy to pull off. Then cover it with the slip on butt pad. I really like your idea and will be trying it out when I get home.
Great video. Sir, do you have the cotton balls saturated in Vaseline? If not, you may want to. You can tear off a little piece, and it will stay on fire a lot longer than the cotton itself, like a wick. If you already do, nice, maybe others will learn from this idea I learned on youtube.
good reveiw love the ooo shit kit the slimjim nice addon to my kit thanks for that and a big hell yea on the vets and soldiers !!!! would love to know more about the bama surival group i'm a bama boy born and breed
i did the same things you did with the shells and the butt pad, my kit is different obviously. but to conserve room in the stock i made a sling out of paracord for it. it lets me fit more in the stock.
Nice versatile little guns! Using the slip-off buttpad works well if is a TIGHT fit. Very Cool! Throw in some stingers, sub-sonic long rifle shells, some cb caps, and .22 shotshells and you have tons of variety.
I bought a 22/20ga combo also, then a 20 ga to .410 steel adapter called FOUR TENNER. Now it can handle any 22 RF load or 22 shot + The shotgun barrel can take 20 ga. or .410 bird shot, buckshot, or slug. They have a 20ga. to .38/.357 adapter sleeve I am considering also. Flexibilty!
i think i will have to get me one of these for a just in case small game getter. also i wanna do rabbit and squirrel hunting. that or an h&r i would like a m6 scout but those are so expensive this is a much better route. great vid.
I would suggest a bright colored bandana vs a camo bandana. Theres a less likely chance of loosing it if it drops and it can also be used to signal for help.
Great job Jason.Does the fore arm on your gun screw on or snap on.That would be very important in the field if you are really in a syrvival situation. And I love the idea of having a little food in the butt of the gun,That could be a big deal if it comes down to it.You could also use it for bait on one of the traps you would make with the rope in the kit.GREAT VIDEO.Look foward to the next one.
Great minds think alike..I have the same stock cover on the maverick I own...and it has quite a few items in it for emergancies...lol Great Job john, keep em coming. BTW, I have taken as many, if not more deer with my single shot 22lr than any other gun I own. If you can get close enough to get a bow shot of, why not close enough to hit the lightswitch behind the ear with a small rifle shell? lol
Great video brother! But why not a bic lighter? That will give you months of flame.

How is the recoil with the .410 and what kind of groups do you get at 10 or 20 yards with the .22LR? I've been looking at one of those as well.

if its chambered for 3" you can shoot 3" or shorter shells usually 410 is chambered that for 3"
