He didn't cheat. I did it too a long time ago. It's a little trippy but sweet. You put portal on ground, ceiling, and fall through to get speed. Now, i put next portal on ground to go up into elevator. Just needs good timing and aim.

Guys, there is a tutorial on youtube of how to do it. It's really quite simple. You make a portal above you and below you to get speed, then shoot a portal next to the exit, which flings you up there.
