@mrsub360 Thank you. I like the playful quality of this tune too (though others have said it drives them mad!). I've since learnt to play it a bit more confidently than on the video here and the more you get into the tune the more you can bring out the jokey bits.
@sobellfanatic Thank you! Yes, I did notice when I saw Martin play that his strings are like telephone wire! This is just done with a set of 12s, so does sound a bit floppy on the top end, but just about works. Haven't seen Martin's video version - will have to check that out. No credit to me for the arrangement, I'm afraid - the great majority is from the tabscout tab with just a couple of my own amendments.
Martin teaches this on his homespun video: Tuning is his usual CGCDGA but with the top A tuned up to D, i.e. CGCDGD. Bit of a killer since he uses an 18 for the top string!
Obviously your fingerings are different but your version sounds very, very close to Martin's. Kudos to you for a great performance.
Thanks geordie1833. I must say I didn't know there was a published book of tab for Martin's version of this tune - I'll look out for that. As mentioned above I got this version from tabscout.com
Thanks! I used the tab from tabscout.com (for some reason I can't seem to post a link to it in this comment, but search Google for "guitar tab third martin carthy"
It's correct apart from the second bar, where the melody line should be all on the 3rd string (at least I think so) instead of on the 2nd. The text version of the tab also doesn't show that some of the notes are supposed to be held rather than played twice (e.g. the second "7" on the third string in the first bar of line 5).

Very well done, a big thumb up from me. I always wanted to learn this song but never was able to find a good arrangement. Where did you find the tab?
