  • Go Merle!

  • yep

  • The Master!!!!!!!!!

  • that sounds great, thanks for putting all these up.

  • yeah, the tone is pretty...healthy, dunno how to describe, does someone know on what setup was he playing?

  • @markomatijevic healthy LOL

It kinda reminds me of chet atkins´ tone, clean with a some "slap" delay, maybe some little reverb too (and thumbpick obviously) but this is just my guess.

(the tone of the guitar is very particular in itself though)

  • @insaneguitarfreak Chet himself said that Merle was the main influence on his guitar playing.

  • @terrho7 It is called Travis picking for a reason. Chet sort of "upgraded" the approach by using three fingers as a matter of course, but the basic style of playing basslines with the thumbpick in a manner that replicates "stride" piano is all Merle.

  • @insaneguitarfreak He actually had an album or two with Chet.

  • I've been a fan of Merle Travis for over 55 years.Great talent, many players today have a style that he, Mose Jenkins and Ike Everly invented long ago.

  • Merle was in Salisbury in 1968 and I visited him in his Motor Home and bought this album from him that night. /That guitar which sounded like the Super 400, was actually called RCA, meaning it was built by Richard C. Allen.

  • Mr. '' Tone '' . What a great sound he had. That's a cool story Whit. I always loved the sound Merle had on this album.

  • @whitt702 ,

    Thanks for the info.

  • 57 YEARS AGO today THAT MERLE RECORD THIS !!!!!
