  • Sorry you feel the way you do, but Knights of Columbus Insurance has been rated at the top in the nation for 18 consecutive years for providing our members and their families high-quality, low-cost insurance. You don't have to believe me on this, you can search the internet.

May the Peace of Christ be with you.

  • the freemasons and The knights of columbus ARE NOT TOGETHER AND ARE NOT THE SAME

  • At first, the initiation confuses me. When I reached second degree, it enlightens me. I'm Allan from council 6956. Thanks brothers.

  • God save the Queen(of England) ......is the closing song of the KOC !!!

What a wacky bunch, anti protestant constitution and initiation but once signed up you sing from the same hymn sheet as the freemasons.

Could it be that the masons and the KOC are one in the same ..........

  • Brothers.

God bless you sir for helping a brother knight. For the common good, you might want to consider a more discrete way other them broadcasting this video to the world where many don't understand the true meaning of the order and being a brother knight.

As this to be a violation of the oath, it is not. It is the essence that is in question. Gentlemen, please be respectful for each other as true knights and settle this in a discrete and private way via personal message.

  • Did u help the brother that was in need of this video already?

  • @kofc4800 he is in remission, but this video has inspired so many others, that it has been decided that the video will remain to assist others in need

  • nnevermind

  • what is you dd's name?

  • No wives and any non-member of the knights of columbus is allowed to be in the room until degree is over. im a 4TH degree knight and im apart of the 1,2 & 3rd degree teams and i know what can happen and what is not allowed to go on... remove please!!!!!!!

  • @kofc4800 - this was during a regular meeting, not a degree ceremony. no violation occurred. this video will stay.

  • to my borther Knights who are saying this needs to be removed I know where you're coming from but the Ode doesn't violate our vow of secrecy. I'm on the 3rd degree team in the BC/Yukon state. We allow wives to watch the knighting and the ode is sung in their presence. Once this was done in the presence of both our State Deputy and a Supreme Representative

  • The KC Meetings are NOT secret. Only the ceremonials. People without cards, sometimes are admitted for presentations, etc. However, only members may vote.

There is nothing that goes on during a meeting that needs to be secret.

  • remove this video please. thanks

  • @kofc4800 sorry, this video was created for a brother in need, and has helped raise awareness of our mission. It will remain.

  • now, You aren't allowd to record anything that goes on in the meeting

  • @kofc4800 Again, where is that rule documented?

  • Question, what do you do when a non-member walks into your. meeting room, you stop until that person is gone from the room right?

  • The wives aren't allowed in until the degree is over.

  • hey all, To let you all know, you are not supposed to record any part of a meeting. i ask you to remove this video. thanks, SK Andrew

  • @kofc4800 Please refer to the policy that states this is a violation.

  • All right SERIOUSLY... If you're in doubt as to what is supposed to be secretive and what is suitable for public display, I would highly suggest you take the time to console with officials from the Supreme Office and if this particular video is in violation of our Orders code of conduct or rules, then this video should be banned by Supreme ASAP! God Bless the Knights of Columbus! "VIVAT JESUS!"

  • The fasces respresents a bundle of twigs bound together with an axe. It symbolizes how individuality is sacrificed for power through collectivity. It's at the origin of the word "fascism"...

  • To all my fellow brothers who claim this is a violation of our pledge of secrecey it isn't. I'm on the 3rd degree team in my state and at the end of degree the wives are allowed in to see the knighting and the ode is sung in there presence. Considering we have done this in the presence of the State Deputy and Supreme Representitves shows it is ok

  • It may not violate the rules of our order but i have never ever seen a video camera in a council meeting. It just makes me wonder if the rules of order were being followed , just a thought

  • Actually, there is no violation here. As long as the details of our Degree Ceremonials are not discussed, it's legal. I served 2 years as GK, and we even had a woman as a guest speaker. The members approved it, and all we had to do was make sure nobody talked about Degrees.

  • i thought GKs could only serve for two consecutive years?

  • There is no Supreme-imposed term limit on any office in the Order. It is customary in some states, though, that officers serve for two 1-year periods (only Trustees and Financial Secretaries serve in multi-year positions).

In Virginia, however, the expectation is that each officer serves for a single term. This means you have to hit the ground running with your staff and ideas in place early.

    Vivat Jesus!

  • Thank you for the information, SK Jason.

    SK Rene Revuelta

    Council 6681, Luzon

  • To my knowledge, as a 2-time delegate to the Supreme Convention (2003 & 2004), there is no such limitation. The only term limits that I know about are for the District Deputy: 4 years.

    PGK, PFN, FDD

  • remember the part that tells all non-members to vacate the chamber? that indicates meetings are confidential.

  • This is true. Many meetings are opened to interested potential Knights and their families, and these meetings are no different than the "closed" meetings. Only the degree ceremonies are kept secret, but even in these, nothing violates the Catholic faith in any way.

  • Insurance is not mandatory for members, and I have no idea what you are talking about concerning bigotry. One of the main reasons the K of C was founded was to defend Catholic families from anti-Catholic members of the Know-Nothing Party and similar anti-immigrant groups who would physically beat and sometimes kill Catholics or burn down their houses and churches.

  • Actually to my fellow brothers who aren't sure this does not violate the vow of secrecy. I have done many 3rd degrees where after all the procedures of the degree is done the wives are allowed in to see their husbands become knighted and the closing ode is sung in their presence. As for all those comparing us to the masons we aren't a secret society only our ceremonials and that is only so you will get the most in terms of the emotional impact from the ceremonials.

  • Knights of Columbus is not a secret society. The vow of secrecy only pertains to the ceremonials of the degrees which are meant to be a lesson to the members.

Like it has been said... you would not want to spoil a movie for your friend by telling him the plot before he has a chance to see it. Such is the same with the ceremonials of the Knights of Columbus.

  • @TAlan0962 Knights of Columbus is not a secret society. VENIAL SIN COMING UP! BULLSHIT!!! The silly cermonies and the closed door meetings are eyewash. The secret and select minority who run things are the real secret society! The ninety seven percent who are milked for fifty dollars a year and whatever else can be lifted from their wallets ( overpriced insurance!!!) are not part of a secret society...they are the biggest victims. Good hearted people who want to do good.

  • Whoever videoed this and gave it to the poster violated a promise to their shame. ALL Ceremonials are secret.

In the late 1800's mortality among the poor was high causing devastation to the families. Fr Michael Mcgivvney started a society to provide a way to care for the widows and orphans of the members. The order has grown to some 12 countries and has over 65 billion dollars in force. We also donate time and money all over the world.

  • Please refer to the KC statute that states the closing ode is secret. The ONLY parts of a meeting that are to be held in confidence are the degree ceremonies. We have open meetings once a year, and proudly sing the opening and closing odes.

  • I don't know what the hell they're singing, but the organization started in the early 1900's as a support group for widowers/families of deceased Catholic men.

The mortality rate was quite high, Catholics had a "bad rap" and had to take "dangerous jobs."

  • What is the Knights of Columbus official story. Why did you become one? Why would a church have a secret circle. This reminds me of the Freemasons.

  • The Knights of Columbus helps the Church, the community, its members and their families. Only its ceremonials are secret so that new members and those moving to higher degrees have something to look forward to. Kind of like a journey of discovery. None of those ceremonials, though, violate Church doctrine.

  • I think I should call Supreme and send this video to them. This is defiantly violating

    the bylaw's

  • Ohh-someone is gonna get in trouble.

  • Only the ceremonials are secret. The video of the closing ode does not violate anything. The meetings are only open to dues paying members for the reason that if a gentleman does not have to join to attend meetings, nobody would join.

  • @m79pacillas

Sorry, but I see nothing that violates any of the laws of our Honored Order. The video tape does not show any part of the meeting other than a group of men singing a song.

Remember that the only thing in our Order that is "secret" ....are the Degrees: all 4 of them. Our Installations of officers are open for the public, as is the wearing of Robes. I respectfully suggest that you read the laws of the Order carefully and thoroughly

  • Actually, the only events that are not to be shared with others are the degree initiation ceremonies.

We have an annual open meeting in which spouses are invited, as we honor our deceased members.

This was captured to share with a Brother Knight recovering from a stem cell transplant and could not make the meeting.
