The choices I'm referring to would be divorce, poor parenting itself, kids straying because people aren't paying attention. What's wrong with having 1 parent, or 4 parents? If the situation was terrible with the typical "nuclear family", it shouldn't matter what the family looks like. What's important is that they're in a household that has support, and love, and respect. The government has to business mandating what a family should look like, or how people "should" be able to love each other.

Well in regard to the Nazis, while they did believe in "managed economy ideals", I will give you that, I'm big enough to admit when I'm wrong. However, they were steadfast in opposing Communism, were against political liberalism, affiliated themselves with more right-winged ideals, such as accusing their own Social Democrats of not being patriotic and selling out Germany. Nazism itself is a mix between the two spectrums, but much of their social control was right-wing, not left.

They weren't warring because it would be a mistake to take the reference to "socialist" in the name of the Nazi party at face value. The main point of the Nazi argument was to say the way they instituted their control after getting power was mainly a magnification of conservative ideals, and controlled the social and cultural aspects which was the more prominent threat than the economic regulation.

we had recessions before fed govt spending was ever significant or out of control - before there was even an income tax. i dont know if deficit spending actually "leads to" recession: it certainly doesnt on its own.
that also wouldnt explain the 2000-2001 recession when the fed has a surplus.
and i would argue that the govt needs to stop trying to set monetary policy to some extent. the executive, certainly shouldnt. only the congress has a const authority to do so.

In Canada, it's been a little more obvious. Maybe because we are a smaller nation, deficits play a bigger role in our economy. Since we've had responsible spending in government (ie government only spends what it brings in) we have had excellent growth.
