My dad once saved someone from being ran over by an oncoming train when the bloke (or it may have been a woman) accidentally fell on the track, it was in 1950s or 1960s France so maybe such an accident was easier there and then. Oddly enough it's not something he brags about, having probably saved somebody's life, he only mentioned it the once!
