210 is an east-west road and 61 is a north-south road. Both routes date back to the fur trapping days in the 1600's, and probably much earlier as well.
MN-210 (1973-present) used to be US-210 (1923 - 1973), and before that was known as the Black Diamond Trail. It was the original route between Duluth and Fargo.
MN-61 (1991-present) was US-61 (1926-1991), and was originally known as the Black Trail. It was the original route between Duluth and the Twin Cities.
