  • 747 was the biggest one!

  • Kinda looked like the Hawaii 5 0 opening.

  • anyone throw a ball up and hit it?

  • Is there anyplace like this in the U.S.? I can't imagine the FAA allowing spectators to be anywhere near the landing zone of commercial jets.

  • is this one of those things that it is funny until somebody gets hurt, then is fucking hilarious? :P

  • Arent planes just wonderful?

  • No way that's 20ft :P more like 35...

  • The music and videography are perfect. I can't believe they let the French on that island.

  • never stand behind a taking off plane, the hot fart will throw u out..

  • fake

  • @leeroynaggins Nope

  • there is a spot like this but a little better at Montreal's Dorval/Pearson airport, minus the beach and (usually) the bikinis.

  • dear curtain library libraians expecially the one who really neads a good one 330 powell avenew mount saint marys college newburgh new york orange county computer location where she gave john joseph peter jr skowronski jr jsj=69=8 a very hard time the computer location at 2nd floor the quiet area she was no where quiet to i john thank you 69=8

  • You are with a black hat and a red t-shirt?

  • Stood behind a 747 at t/o and stood under the an-124 after t/o on the other end of the runway.

  • You didn't bring your kite? :)

BTW It's Sint Maarten, not Saint Maarten

  • Great vid!

  • Lived there for two years. We used to hang out at Sunset Beach Bar and watch the tourists get sand blasted while losing their stuff into the sea. Its pretty damn comical after a few beers and a trip to CD Zion.

  • Wagner ftw!

  • this is a great video

  • WE GOTTA GO BACK KATE!

  • Shame you didn't see a Airbus a380, now that would be a sight. Pretty impressive though, it must have been an amazing experience.

  • @WhichDoctor1 AFAIK the A380 is too big to land on an airport like that one, I read somewhere it needs a bigger runway to land and takeoff :S

correct me if i'm wrong though

  • @raidentheninja Know idea, your probably right though.

  • @raidentheninja

I think the 380 has less max takeoff distance than an A340 so I dont see why it couldnt.

  • TBH I dunno, but I'm gonna look into that...

  • Did you get a tan CDK?

  • Nice filming!

  • That chick front, left, has a nice ass.

  • beautiful place nice vid

  • are those beach people patted down for rocket launchers? :))

  • crosswind

  • I was just in St. Thomas and St. John for the past week.

  • No offense, but I once thought: how possible could you attack Christians using Maho Beach? Obviously you didn't lol

By the way this airport is insane!

  • While I was out at sea, a sailor on our carrier got blown off of the flight deck at night because of a launching aircraft. The light on his float-coat wasn't flashing at the proper intervals. He floated in that cold water for 7 hours, until the sun came up, and our SAR Helo could spot him.

  • Mocking aliens landing on Earth, eh? Well, I see through your documentation and logic! Harumph!

     Or was it Pahrump? :P

  • Flight of the Valkyries was a n excellent choice.

  • Thanks for the geography lesson

  • that would be incredible. id probably be so amped afterward

  • I think about never ever going to that beach

  • LOL, "Think about it." Well yeah... ok.

  • Ahhhh Air France...sexy plane...and btw why would you even bring creationists into this video Mr anonymous.... Enjoy the beauty of crazy ppl on a beach waiting for planes to fly 20 feet above their heads .....

  • I still don't understand people referring to inanimate objects as sexy. It just doesn't compute in my brain.

  • @JonO387

We are fapping to our own mental sexiness.

Everyone in the know, knows sex takes place in the brain.

  • And that's why porn works.

    :D

  • Very nice! Thank you!

  • Ah, the wonders science has given us. Flight is awesome.

(And if any creatards are watching, aerodynamics is "just a theory" too!)

  • He, cdk007, I've been to Sint Martaan but I didn't go to Maho Beach, but I obviously had to fly over it. I went to Sint Martaan to dive.

If you want some hair raising fun, take one of the STOL (short take-off & landing) planes from St. Martaan to the nearby tiny island of Saba. They only used 1/3 of the runway to land at Saba, but used every fricking centimeter to take off. At the end of the runway is a cliff. Fun times. Good diving, though.

  • I. Love. The. Music. On. Your. Videos. . .

  • How cool! I'm always amazed to see planes taking off and landing - and the closer the better!

  • I'm a loyal subscriber and an aviation buff, apology not necessary here :)

  • Mee, mee, mee, mee, mee, mee, mee,.

    watch?v=VnT7pT6zCcA

  • what are the name of the song??

  • Flight of the Valkeries by Chapin. Was used in the movie Apocalypse Now. Double check spelling. Not my strong point.

  • Uh, Phoenix, dude. Flight of the Valkyries is by Wagner. Not Chopin.

  • Yes it was. But hey, I got the song right. ;)

  • Yes, you did, my dear. And for that we give you half props. ;)

  • That's a really cool video. :)

  • You're on St. Maarten and you video-taped planes landing? Where are your priorities, man?

  • A funny kind of death wish, what?

  • That's fookin awesome!

  • Nice pan

  • Anyone for a haircut, LOL

  • Are you going to visit Galapagos while you're down there?

  • It's awesome how the plane is 'drifting' while approaching...

  • Definitely a 5-star finale!

  • BLOODY HELL!!!!

  • A friend of mine showed me videos like this a couple of years ago after she was telling me about her own vacation in Saint Maaten. It must be exhilerating to be that close to a plane landing!

  • There will be French people on that plane....

The only reason one needs to never go to Saint Maarten

  • that's super cool... we can get back to bashing creationists after you're done vacationing

  • Coolness > sticking to the theme :)

  • ummm, can anyone say hearing damage?

  • I could. I'd rather say ear plugs though.

  • I've been trying to convince my wife we need to holiday on sint marteen :)

  • Thats what I call, Intelligent Design =)

  • best place to play frisbee and juggle rings :)

    or what about kitesurfing?

  • Ha. The comment about poping your collar came out of nowhere, and cracked me up.

  • ::)) that's got to be a risky way to get your adrenaline flowin'....

  • The wonderful world of wake turbulence. Can't beat it.

  • Lets that an RPG to that fucker and BOOM lmao. Seriously, they should increase security or something; with a fair arm someone could throw rocks at it lol.

  • Nice touch at the end of the video

  • couldnt this native dude use the closest washroom in the building. Aboriginal (unless he is Mexican) community must be very proud of their people.

  • I just happened to watch a video on this like... a few days before you posted this.

It's crazy I tell you! CRAZY!

  • Meh. It's all done with mirrors.

  • Awesome

  • gawd made it fly so well so peoplee could get to palces closer! he even built airports near the beaches so ppl culd have fun watching planes take off and land!! all praise the lord!!!!!!!!!!

  • Don't ever apologize for posting cool stuff that's off topic, it kind of reminds everyone that you're a people too.

  • a bit of deviation is just fine! We were there 2 years ago and it is hard to explain quite how awesome it actually is. Hope you had a nice holiday

  • goddam das epic

  • "Miracle of flight?" nah....

"Science, it works bitches." That's better.

  • That's cool!

  • fun

  • Vikings and Beekeepers!

  • That was fun.

  • Very nice!

It reminds me of the time I used to watch planes land at DAB from Thames road.

  • EPIC!!!

  • music unneccessary

  • :-)) Reminds me of the Navy ... take off and landings!!

    Peace

    Von

  • Did you ever see a video of what the outward force of these engines did to a fire-truck?

These people are lucky not to get swept away. But of course, that's probably why the runway area is fenced in.

Thanks for posting this. I'm a bit of a fan of airplanes myself.

  • These aircraft do NOT land at full power

It's the jet wash when they're powering up to take off is when you should be concerned

  • *Jet blast

  • Yeah, that's right too. In fact, at touchdown isn't the power supposed to be off or something?

    Thanks.

And besides which, if we suppose that anyone is able to withstand the FORCE of the jetwash at takeoff, the HEAT will kill them instead.

This pretty much debunks a dream I had in 1986 in which I saw professional wrestler Moondog Spot air-ski off the back of an ascending Boeing 727 (with his body plumb) - in pretty much the way one would water-ski.

  • No, "power" isn't off on landings. The engines are throttled back to the minimum flight power setting.

As for the power vs heat thing, it depends how close you are. The temperatures immediately behind the turbine exhaust are a few hundred degrees Celsius, but they drop off dramatically as you move back. Most of the air being pushed back is actually not heated at all, and it tends to diffuse the exhaust air rather quickly.

  • @c6gunner I will say though, the wind that hit me when the plane took off was quite warm, like a hairdryer.

  • Oh, no doubt. If he was going to take-off thrust, the exhaust temperature could have hit as high as 600 degrees C. It'll definitely warm you up, even at that distance. However, I've been much, MUCH closer to running jet engines. Unless you're sitting right behind the exhaust, I'd be much more worried about the blast than the temperature.

  • @cdk007

Yep... a hairdryer filled with sand that is lol

    Sand blasting scaled down :P

  • @bearpaw72 Most passenger jet engines are really turbo-fans. These are a combination of a relatively small jet engine with a huge ducted fan. The ducted fan sucks in vast quantities of air at the front of the engine and blows it out at the back, but doesn't significantly heat it up. The hot gases from the jet part are cooled by the air from the duct so the overall temperature isn't too bad, provided you're not TOO close.

  • This reminds me of old James Bond movies for some reason.

  • In going there when the plane takes off, and letting loose a parachute.

With a little luck, I might not die as I skip across the water...

  • ...into the gulf of mexico to soon be lost in the middle of open water.

  • Everyone needs their cheap thrills now and then, I guess.

  • Plain awesome. Didn't even know they still used propeller planes.

  • Haha good work, Im suprise you could even hold the camera as still as you dis thats a hell of alot of force coming from thoes engins. Like if you've seen mythbusters hehe 5 stars for awesome

  • lol the first plane made me laugh so hard, it looked like it was gonna fly into the camera

    5/5 lol

  • Nice video, something quite different to your regular videos. The second airplane is a jetBlue Airbus A320.

  • the whole beach, that sooty smell...

i love the smell of turbofan exhaust in the morning.

    this vacation is gonna end....

  • Second plane was an airbus

  • COOL!! some of the stills are so rad they almost look photoshopped! Thank you for sharing CKD!!

  • C'mon. this IS science.

    Practical philosopy.

    Religion????

  • fuccckkkk... yeah would love to go their someday just to see that.

    nice!

  • GOD DAMN that music is annoying. Is this CDK guy retarded? WTF is wrong with this moron.

  • Have you seen any of his other videos? He seams very educated and intelligent to me. The description "retarded" or "moron" doesn't fit CDK at all.

  • Very cool. I would love to get St. Maarten in my log book but I doubt that will ever happen.

  • Whats the music at the beginning called?

  • is by Wagner: ride of the Valkyries

  • If a warning sign doesn't include "and/or death" then it just isn't worth paying attention to.

  • Ha ha ha ha that's fucking brilliant.

  • Been there but missed the airplane beach. Looks awesome. It probably wouldn't be that relaxing though. ; )

  • I think you mis-identified several of those aircraft...

  • Big difference between the exhaust of a stationary plane while it is accelerating of and a moving plane while it is slowing down.

  • In the Air Force I experienced being underneath an F-4 Phantom taking off under full afterburner. That'll rattle your insides pretty well. :-)

  • As soon as I saw the combination of airplanes and Sint Maarten together, I knew what was coming. You and your wife captured some quite nice footage, there.

  • Okay, that's nuts.

  • Man... without something like a shadow, my eyes can't tell how large it is... it looks like a little model.

  • Yeah, being used to only seeing planes when they aren't moving or really far away throws your depth perception for a loop.

  • The warning about air traffic reminded me of Pushing Tin!!! LOL

  • Looks like you're having an awesome time. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning."

    DJ

  • The music is very Annoying!!

  • "my fiancee shot the stills."

Really?? Even the ones from space??

  • I've always had an affinity with aircrafts of all kinds. This is an awesome vid, thx for sharing.. 5 stars

  • AY! true that! staring into the engine exhaust while its taking off IS a bad IDEA!

Any little debris could be accelerated to 100's of miles an hour and SHMACK, pop goes eye globe.

Nice footage! Thx for taking one for the team!

  • Cool vid, but might I suggest a shorter "intro" section? We don't need several minutes of filler before the action :p

  • that was awesome!!

  • I hope you used ear plugs.

  • i wanna go there

  • great and wonderful footage! too bad there weren't any a380's landing that day XD (probably don't even go there).

that's awesome how much force those jets put behind them at full throttle!

  • I doubt the A380 could turn around at TNCM.

  • i share that doubt ;)

  • That is so freekin' cool!

  • THUNDERBIRD!

the sequel was a bit of a let-down

  • Hitler thought Wagner should be the soundtrack for the new German Reich.

  • and then look what happened

  • Who the f**k cares if Wagners dog bit someone who knew a nazi. TY for setting the record straight once and for all.

  • Given the sign, I'd say this is a good way to get one nominated for a Darwin Award.

  • I've actually had the chance to do sit on that beach(stayed in the hotel middle bottom @2:14).

I don't know about the death part of that sign either, planes taking off will blow you flat on your ass though.

  • That's pretty cool =]

  • Very cool video. How many hours did it take for the ringing in you ears to stop afterwards?

  • LOL! That's awesome! For the record I thought Ride of the Valkyries was perfect. Wagner FTW!

  • Jesus Christ...that is very close indeed.

  • wow this is fuking stupid, anoying music and nothing happens, gg loser

  • @pelvicthrusta

Dude, get a life. If you didn't like the video, no one was forcing you to watch it.

  • @pelvicthrusta Aww. Did nothing go boom? Poor you.

  • I saw your fingers! THE MAGIC HAS BEEN RUINED FOREVER!!!!!!!

  • I was thinking.. where are the valkyries on that beach with their chain-mail and shoulder pads.. and ale.

Then I noticed the real live landing planes.. I live right next to an airport so I go look at planes landing like that too (only from the side). For me more fun is taking off.. it's: taxi, taxi, taxi.. vrum, vrum, vrum, vrooooom.. still nothing .. VROOOOOM .. nope, not yet.. VROOOOOOM then takeoff and the plane goes up at un unbelievable angle.

Mainly I envy you the sun and fiancee.

  • 307 views and 374 ratings haha xD They view count must have not been updated lol

  • Splaaaaaaat!

  • Must have been said, but Wayne's World comes to mind...

  • LOL great stuff! Hope you had a great time-- and it seems you did.

  • ur frigin crazy... i so want to go there :D

  • The bible is the most advanced and complete science book ever.

On page 345, book of Moronus, verse 36:66 there is a detailed description of how to built one of these. Of course they did not call it an airbus on those days but big-metal bird...

  • @tommytalks:

    Praise the load!

  • Pretty shitty weather from all I can tell. Did you at least pack an umbrella?

  • As an aviation major I find this stuff terribly interesting. One of my professor actually trained some of the controllers who work there.

    You did not disappoint.

  • Tres cool! — Love, Jonny Angel

  • So cool! :O

  • I still enjoy doing that :-)

And to combine it with one o
