@tmsods You can't. But there are mods & tricks to make backups working. Search on Google, you'll find what you're looking for. Anyway it's not a good thing for Saturn itself, so be quiet. It will be better whit his original games. :)
@tmsods you can get a modchip that allows this from the ConsoleGoods site, I've had a few from there and they are excellent, obviously this in only for playing backup of original titles you own *cough*

I recently bought the PS1 version of Tomb Raider, as I already own the Japanese Saturn version, and while it had some nice touches, the pixelly grittiness and controls of the Saturn version still wins me over. I also hear the PAL Saturn version ran smoother as the game was developed in the PAL regions and not optimized for others. The NTSC versions had some issues with that. So your version probably looks a bit better.
Interestingly enough the game was originally being developed for the SEGA Saturn. But it ended up coming out on Playstation as well and that became the biggest version.

Usually, the Saturn version looks better (longer draw distance, better water effects and better colors overall). But then, the PS1 version runs on a higher resolution (less "pixelized", as you said), so there's that.
@bowsercrushmario Um it would really be nice to see the video comparisons of the 1st tomb raider on ss and psx. Both pretty dated at this point. The resident evil for ss is jaggy over the the directors cut, but probably the same as the original scratched version on the psx.

I recently bought a copy of this game (Saturn edition) off of eBay, but I can't get any of its GameShark codes to work. I have a crappy V1.91 version and don't know if it's compatable. It's a shame because it's a good, but really tough game.

I was 10 when this came out and I beat it. It was actually the first game I every fully completed. This was my favorite Saturn game and still one of my favorite games of all time.

Yeah, I agree with you. I played Legend, Anniversary and Underworld, but the original ones (TRI/V) are the best ones, and I like AoD, too. The new ones are too easy, and the atmospheres are not so... exciting!
I thought the Sega Saturn was a fantastic console, we had Sonic 3D, Wipeout, Sega Rally Championships, TR1 and loads more.
I loved the CD player function where when you played a CD the screen came up with a spaceship flying through stars (bit like the windows 95 screen saver but with a ship lol)
A great game regardless of the system. I'm actually thinking of picking up the Saturn version as well one of these days.

I love the original version (and I played a second time Tomb Raider Legend and Anniversary whit English dub, even if whit Italian subtitles), but not everybody understand English as its own language. To me, the best games are the one that allows you to chose: Original Audio + Own language subtitles / Own Language Audio + Own language subtitles / all in origina language.

I don't think so, because Saturn and PS1's hardware are really different. But anyway I think that it was one of the games with the best graphic on both consoles.

Yeah, I agree also for that. I think both Saturn and Dreamcast are very innovative, but the second one was a revolution. Modem, visual memory... I do not own this system, but I'd love to.
The triangles were the industry standard, and still are, but despite whatever flaws may have been presented by quadrilaterals, they did have the benefit of reducing, and usually eliminating, the dancing textures that were hardly ever in Saturn games but were common in Playstation games. Neither system had perspective correction (the N64 did, though), so the quads were a plus in that regard, because they compensated to a good degree for the lack of that feature on the Saturn.

i remenber that i had a demo of this game for the saturn when i was a kid but unfurtunatly i losted it and i don't play this on the saturn ages ago, but some day i will play this game on the saturn aguen, i still play my sega saturn games.
i actually don't like to much the recent tomb raiders they're good but not like the old ones the tomb raider series started to suck a bit sinse tomb raider legend.
TB1, TB2, TB3, and TB AoD are my favourites

I was 10 when this came out and I beat it. It was actually the first game I every fully completed. This was my favorite Saturn game and still one of my favorite games of all time.

I played this on the saturn for first time,some parts of the game are really difficult but i prefer that more than actual 'prince of persia'like tomb raiders,very automatic

Yeah, I agree with you. I played Legend, Anniversary and Underworld, but the original ones (TRI/V) are the best ones, and I like AoD, too. The new ones are too easy, and the atmospheres are not so... exciting!

I thought the Sega Saturn was a fantastic console, we had Sonic 3D, Wipeout, Sega Rally Championships, TR1 and loads more.
I loved the CD player function where when you played a CD the screen came up with a spaceship flying through stars (bit like the windows 95 screen saver but with a ship lol)
Fantastic console of its time.

A great game regardless of the system. I'm actually thinking of picking up the Saturn version as well one of these days.
People now like to rip into the TR now, but I'm still a big fan of the originals. Hard controls and all.
I played one of the new ones (Legends I do believe), and after the first Quick Time Event I was done. I miss the days when developers would actually let you play the scene instead.
It was always more exciting to be the one in control of Lara when she was in danger.

I understand what do you mean. And I agree with you, especially with the last sentence. I love have full control of the character, whereas today most of the actions are automatic.

Yes, I think so. But I prefere the italian voice: Tomb Raider has been dubbed by Elda Olivieri since "the Dagger of Xian", and she has a beautiful voice.

I understand what you mean. I love the original version (and I played a second time Tomb Raider Legend and Anniversary whit English dub, even if whit Italian subtitles), but not everybody understand English as its own language. To me, the best games are the one that allows you to chose: Original Audio + Own language subtitles / Own Language Audio + Own language subtitles / all in origina language.

i head that the framerate is smoother on Saturn but the lighting is better and the textures are a bit better on PSX.

Yeah i agree the original is amazing and theres something special about it. I have it on ps1 and dont have a saturn, always thought it would be interesting to play the saturn version though, and other games on the saturn. Are the graphics the same on this version?

I don't think so, because Saturn and PS1's hardware are really different. But anyway I think that it was one of the games with the best graphic on both consoles.

Ahh, one of the first games I played on my Sega Saturn was Tomb Raider. It's still fun to go back to it occasionally for old times sake :P

The PS1 version is superior for only 1 reason! TRIANGLES! Look at how ugly the chandelier is.
The Saturn was an alright system, just not well thought out by Sega. 2 CPUs back in that day didn't fly and their GPU sucked as well.
The Dreamcast was they're best system, but they shot themselves in the foot by allowing Yamaha to make their drive.

Maybe you should just accept that the Saturn was an epic fail.... Did I ever say I disliked the Saturn? I own a Saturn and I would of been far happier if it would of succeeded.
I do accept Saturn's hardware, but the developers didn't which is what really matters.
Some games were awesome too, just like the Jaguar and 3DO had some good ones.

Yeah, I agree also for that. I think both Saturn and Dreamcast are very innovative, but the second one was a revolution. Modem, visual memory... I do not own this system, but I'd love to.

The triangles were the industry standard, and still are, but despite whatever flaws may have been presented by quadrilaterals, they did have the benefit of reducing, and usually eliminating, the dancing textures that were hardly ever in Saturn games but were common in Playstation games. Neither system had perspective correction (the N64 did, though), so the quads were a plus in that regard, because they compensated to a good degree for the lack of that feature on the Saturn.

Yeah, it rocks. In Tomb Raider Anniversary, they tried to do teir best, but the original theme... Is something unforgivable.

Ehm... I don't know how it's called in PSOne version, anyway in DOS version it's "Lara's Home".
Anyway, I think there's no a "best console". PSOne version had some positives things and some bad things, as Saturn version and as PC version.
