  • I've met a guy who drove the 844 last year in Manteca, CA he said in the 30 years he worked for UP that was the coolest experience he's had.

  • @littleevan99

It would be amazing to operate, or even ride in the cab, of the 844. I'm sure it was nice talking with the guy you met. I can only imagine the stories he could tell.

  • I LOVE your blue and yellow Erie warbonnet diesel back to back engine video! Matua Tyco made my dad's Santa Fe HO scale locomotive. If you go to Lionel Trains Library and look up 202 Union Pacific Alco Diesel A Unit 1957 you can see my train. I am still learning how to send photos. I love your trolley too on the Erie video. Plus blue and grey piggyback train was a great sight to see!

  • @Showgirl7able

Thanks for the comment and I'll look up your locomotive.

  • Wow! She is a pretty engine and going sooo fast! I love her! I have a 1957 O Gauge Union Pacific engine and I got her at Sheraton 4 Points in Pittsburgh Pa's Western Model Railroad Assoc. It was given to me by a friend. It's rare women love these things, but I grew up with my dad HO scale Blue Santa Fe. (What is with our family and freight trains?) :)

  • @Showgirl7able

Thanks for the comment and compliment. This is a great locomotive and actually there was more speed left in her. But this was plenty fast enough for myself. Although not HO scale, I also grew up with a blue and yellow Lionel Santa Fe Alco that was my fathers when he was a child. And I still have that locomotive today.

  • i just wanted to stop by and say thays a nice sounds great

  • @grizzleybearz282004

Thanks for the comment. This is a great locomotive and it really does sound great. Lionel used the sound from the real 844 for this locomotive.

  • @rj2571 lionel should do that with all there engines and then no one can complan i think thay may have done that with there pwc N&W J CLASS #746 engine it sounds pretty close to me

  • Not to mention make them shiny and look like new again.

  • @6709ify

Cleaning these newer locomotives with the many small detail parts added to them can be a challenge. I've used window cleaner from a spray bottle with decent results. I spray a little on a paper towel or a q-tip and wipe the locomotive. Just be careful around all the added on detail parts.

  • I have all types of steamers and diesels on my model railroad list, but I was wondering something. A lot ofthe engines on my list are really old, say 2000-2005 or so. Could it be possible to have those older locomotives updated with MTH's and Lionel's newest Legacy and Protosound control and sound systems? I heard the older systems and I don't like them. Not realistic enough. Could you have Lionel and MTH update those old trains? With enough money of course. I sure hope so.

  • @6709ify

No, Lionel does not offer an Legacy upgrade for there older locomotives. But places, like Weaver Models, can add TMCC and Railsounds 4 to a locomotive. I believe MTH introduced PS2 in 2000. One can download new sound files for PS2 locomotives from their website. And MTH does offer a PS2 upgrade for locomotives that are not already equipped with PS2.

  • they had a grey fef 8444 but now its a diesel engine

  • @xtnt316x

Thanks for the comment. The 844 was gray at one time and the 844 was renumbered to 8444 in 1962 when the Union Pacific took delivery of some EMD GP30 locomotives. It was returned to its original number when GP30 #844 was retired from service.

  • BAD ASS LOCOMOTIVE!

  • @Amtrak1194

    Thanks!

  • that is one bad ass sounding engine very buddy did you ever check out my postwar lionel #2354 nyc f-3 set i was telling you about awhile ago

  • @grizzleybearz282004

Thanks! Yes, I did check out your 2354 video. It's a very beautiful set.

  • The 844 was grey at one time look it up on YouTube there's a video.

  • @littleevan99

That is correct. The 844 was gray at one point. I would like to have a gray version and it would be great to have two FEF's, just not two 844's though.

  • @rj2571 youd cud get the gray version of 8444 or get 844's sister counterpart #836

  • Well found a grey one on eBay for $759 and it was on sale 20 minutes later somebody bought it. Man that was a great deal!

  • @littleevan99

That was a very good deal. If only Lionel made the grey version with a different cab number I would seriously consider getting one.

  • wow i want a go! :D

  • Where can you buy one I cant find anyone online who has them anymore.

  • @LoganisTrainBoy1

These are not easy to find. I did a few quick searches and didn't find any either. I've been in this hobby for a while and one thing I learned is to keep searching. You'll eventually find one and the search is part of the fun.

  • The 844 :D

  • You know I'm actually making a list of locomotives and cars I want when I get back into the model railroading business, from both MTH & Lionel. I simply LOVE trains and can't wait to get back into the hobby in the future. I sold my last ones because I no longer have the space. I'm sad.

  • Sorry to hear that you had to sell your trains. Hopefully you will have the space someday soon to enjoy this hobby again. I can only imagine how large your list is already. There are so many nice trains made today that it's not an easy decision on which ones to get.

  • I like the way the chuff sounds at 0:36.

  • Thanks for the comment. The sounds of this locomotive are amazing. Lionel did an excellent job with them. It does sound great in this video. But it even sounds better in person.

  • hey rj just wanted to let you know i got this same fef

  • That's great!! I've enjoyed mine a lot since I got it. Hope you are having lots of fun with yours as well.

  • @rj2571 I am and enjoying it I got the 765 and I enjoy running that to so hope to see more videos in the future

  • That's great! The 765 is also a nice locomotive and one of the many I would like to get someday. And yes, more videos will be on the way once everything is set up this fall. One of the new locomotives I got so far this year is a Lionel Pennsylvania J1a 2-10-4. The Eastern Division TCA train meet in York is less then two months away, so there is no telling what I might find there.

  • @rj2571 I am going to maybe we can meet up there

  • how much was the 844

  • whats the smalest curve it can ride

  • Lionel recommends O-72 or larger and I haven't tried this locomotive on anything smaller then that. I wish I could be of more help, but I honestly can't say if this locomotive will work on O-54 curves.

  • Could you doublehead your 844 with your 9000?

  • That's an excellent question and one I honestly can't give an answer to. I haven't tried it with these locomotives and I'm far from an expert with Legacy. But if I were to make a guess I would say no considering the differences in the size of the drive wheels and the electronics. Not just Legacy to TMCC but the 844 has an improved version of Odyssey speed control compared to the 9000.

  • What size curves are you running this engine on?

  • The curves are 0-96 and were made by K-Line.

  • Question does your Xmas Tree saty up all year and is this your Layout

  • No, the Christmas Tree is not up all year. It's up for about 2 months though. Yes, this is the only layout I have. I start on it around Thanksgiving and take things down in late January. Although I do wish I had room for a permanent layout.

  • were did u get the 844

  • I bought this locomotive from Northern Central Supply when I was at the Eastern Division TCA train meet at the York (Pennsylvania) Fairgrounds this past October.

  • Awesome video!

  • Thanks for the compliment.

  • Thanks

  • I got to see where the 844 lives in Cheyenne.

can do more video of the up KATY?

    from Amtrakkid

  • Thanks for the comment. I'm sure it was nice to see Cheyenne. Yes, I can do more of the Katy. Hopefully next weekend I will be able to do more. I also have a Lionel SP heritage SD70-ACe That I will be doing a video of.

  • I saw the 4449 and 844 double heading on Puget sound

  • That must have been very nice to see. I wish that those locomotives could make their way east sometime.

  • same I always wished to see the 4449

  • At Train Festivle 2009, the 4449 had come up to Michigan. My dad & I got tickets, and rode it! I neve thought such a famouse engine would come to Michigan. Glad I live here!

  • I'm sure that was a very nice trip. The memories of doing that with your father will last your lifetime. I live about 20 minutes from Steamtown, which is nice, but it sure would be great if the 4449 and the 844 would make their way east sometime.
