almost finished with a storm of swords and im quitting the books are god awful garbage. its very very predictable to read. nothing happens but complete shit. all i had to do to predict what happens in the twins was think of the worst thing that could happen and that exactly what happened. its not the first time ive done this in the series. im glad i didnt accually pay real money for this horrible set of books. its such a shame that a great world was created by a completely one sided writer.
@thechindoctor See, that's all I'm asking for. Hating the books is fine, as long as your reasons aren't just "fantasy is stupid and you're stupid for liking it."
@Rmlohner thanks. i feel i have good reason. martin only knows how to write one way and sticks to one formula and never goes off it even according to reviews on his others books out of the this series. i know youre a fan of the books, i would like to understand why ?
@thechindoctor I see it as kind of similar to Oz (the good parts, at least). There's a lot of bad stuff that happens, some of which goes unpunished (though we can always hope), but the characters and the complex plotting keeps me engaged, plus there's just enough actual payment for evil deeds (Storm of Swords ends with a couple major ones) that it doesn't get too depressing.
@Rmlohner i love fantasy and this is one of the best if not the best fantasy worlds ever created. saying allot. its just such a shame that martin is such a one sided writer. i wish the events in the story were more broad in outcome and the storyline less predictable. like i said, once you understand his writing formula anyway, before that they do blow you away, the novels are so predictable since he never varies in his direction. give you almost what you want then take it away, over and over
I watched the show green. Never heard of martin or his books. In fact I didn't even know they were based on books until the third or forth episode. After the end of the first season I started to read the books. I must say the second book was bad. It was dull reading mostly. I was mainly interested in Arya. The battle with rob and wolfs were great. But that's really al thsr kept me going. I'm on the third book and it's much better. Still I find it rather hopeless and depressing. I keep reading t

Ok, I love the fantasy genre, but the show is a like watching a disney softcore porn adaptation of I Claudius in the world of Oblivion. I don't think a plot is rich and complex because it combined 50 childish ones together.
i wouldnt call myself a fan of fantasy, but i do like some fantasy and the first episode of game of thrones was amazing and i really hope it keeps getting better
(cont...) Did you know that Martin believed the idea that "they were dead the whole time" in his bashing of the show's ending? If you can't even comprehend what actually happened, don't respond on it. It doesn't matter how successful of an author you are.
I agree 100% with your take on this godawful excuse of a "review." The entire thing can be summed up as "fantasy is for children, fantasy is crap, screw fantasy. Now where's my money, NYT?" But since you just HAD to bring up Lost (praising a show based on the original author's stance on another show, a line of thinking that has absolutely nothing to do with anything relating to the show in question.. NYT is hiring!).. (cont...)

funny that you mentioned lost there. my opinion of game of thrones is that its a fantasy book/series in much the same way that lost was a sci fi series. that is- it really isnt. its just populist crap that someone stuck in another genre because there was more money to be had that way. having said that the books point of view chapters are a fantastic idea. its just a shame that the book(s) is a wilbur smith light medieval romanticist novel of court intrigue where....absolutely nothing happens.
@sturdybiscuit You are... a moron... nothing happens in the books? So character developments, character deaths, the story moving forward... that's "absolutely nothing happens" to you? You are a pretentious fuck. Go kill yourself.
one thing I noticed when I first read the first book is that LACK of fantasy element in it. It really felt like I was truly reading a story set in real world medieval time. All those mystics and magical creatures are usually mentioned as myths and legends, just like in our real world as well

I'm curious what you think of the series so far, has it continued to meet your expectations?

@OHMAHGAA Definitely. Very close to the books, with the additional scenes actually adding depth to the non POV characters.
