In my opinion, the greatest song ever written. Perfect lyrics, melody, build up, structure, hooks...this song should be a textbook example of a perfect song.
Paul McCartney showing once again why he is the greatest composer of this century....20+ #1 hits with the Beatles and half as many again on his own since then....and 67 years old and still on the road kocking them dead around the world. This guy is too much!! As far as the Beatles are concerned no one will ever surpass their achievements.....period
I was in the Royal Navy-Fleet air arm from 1962 to 1972.. I know where I was when every Beatles song & album was released. I purchased every one the day it was released or as soon as I could if at sea. I was in the service club (NAAFI) at RNAS Culdrose Cornwall UK, when "Hey Jude" came out & immediately that day was on the Juke Box. My buddies & I played this pretty much all day & by that night we all knew the words. We returned to the mess dorm & sung it & It sounded pretty good I might add.
They really did. The Beatles are epic in every, and any way possible. It just sucks where rock is going these days. Most of the songs out there now have no meaning anymore.
I'll always tell anyone who'll listen that artists like the Beatles, their contemporaries and what followed immediately after are people to learn from, not just to cover/copy. If original musicians/groups tried harder to match their musical/harmonic/melodic standards, rock music of today would improve by 70%, if not more.
The vast majority of Beatles songs, likewise, have very little meaning, unless I am very much so mistaken.
Perhaps you are different, but I do not listen to the Beatles for profound insight into life, and an unraveling of mysteries. I listen to them, like so many others, because their songs are largely sugary and sweet, and provide the same sort of happiness to a day as would eating a bit of chocolate. Hero-worship makes gods of them, unfortunately.
4 days ago i went to The Bootleg Beatles (band who sing the numbers of the beatles) And this song was one of the last song it, their where realy good :)
Check out my channel. I have parts one and two ( with three to follow )of a tour of the Studio where Hey Jude was recorded ( Trident Studios London ) In fact I have several clips of Beatles ( related ) stuff thats exclusive to my Channel ONLY. I know the clips are exclusive to me, cos I filmed them. Thanks.
If you look closely at 5:57, you will see a young Neigel Tuffnal of Spinal Tap. He is wearing an blue shirt. He later used this piano rift as an inspiration for one of the major Tap songs, Lick My Love Pump.
The sound is odd because the audio is the album recording. There are other versions of this video on You Tube with the original live recording which is excellent.
Wait...is that old guy petting Paul at the end???
