I feel so ashamed to say that Barbie brought me here. But it did, and I'm happy that i could listen to this masterpiece without having to watch the moive over and over just for the music.
@LeahKarma99 Barbie is the same thing that brought me here, but at least it brought us to wonderful instrumental music instead of some weird rap music or something, haha. :)
@bournebeats First off, you have a near infinite amout of respect in my book for not freaking out when I said that. And second 0.0 well I guess he liked it to be peaceful while he worked...
@thelol1759 afraid not. i thought you were referring to some famous serial killer who used to listen to this whilst killing people. you live and you learn!
The awesomeness of Tchaikovsky's music, including his ballets, is that they're not really associated with ballet or dance of any kind. When you really listen and THINK about what he was doing and the turbulent times of all history up to that point is that he was writing HISTORICAL music. Literally - WAR music. ALL of it. Not just his 1812 Overture. But this waltz as well.
You know, i can firmly agree most of the mainstream music we hear on the radio today is almost ridiculously simplistic. going as far to say its talentless, or not music at all is, well ridiculous. sure, symphonies require more time and thought, but thats whats required for the genre. to put it simple a little open mindedness is important right? coming from the guy who loves metal/hardcore. yet i love classical. weird? naw. all music is worth appreciating as long as one person enjoys the melody
@FromUnderOrion I think it's important to recognize that a lot of these symphonies would not exist without traditional folk music, which was ridiculously simple and yet beautiful in its own way.
I tend to look at "pop music" with that attitude. Sure a lot of it may be rubbish, but I see it as representing society and culture from the perspective of the common person. Most people aren't complex and that's why people like Tchaikovsky awe us with their perceptions of the world.
Attention everyone: this is real music. You can all watch your precious VMAs, or whatever else is on tonight. Give Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber and Beyonce and Jay-Z and Chris Brown all the attention you want; I'll just take more Tchaikovsky for myself!
@PrinceShAdE I totally do that lol. HIs music is so amazing and powerful that its hard not to. (My arm and neck are sore from all of the movement lol)
trust me it may seem glamorous and beautifal from afar, but those people were one in a million living in a culture of poverty and corruption, and EAP tchaiovsky and the rest were the "rihannas" and "jb's" of their time, but ill admit they were a lot more talented and glamorous than our society idols......
Damn, I love European culture. But alas, it is a sad time that our peoples can produce no more Tchaikovsky's or Beethoven's or Elgar's, but rather emobands, Rhianna or JLS.
Dis is sooo awesum! @ my ballet studio we're gnna perform swan lake n I'm sooo excited! I've bin workin sooo hard 2 get d part of Odette. If 1 of d instructors really notices me n sees dat I'm gettin d moves done rite as dey instruct it, dey will tell me dat dey want me 2 try out 4 the part of Odette. I hav already tried out like last week n hopefully dis week dey'll tell me who got d part! N wats even more awesum is dat a guy I really like already got d part of Siegfried! :D Wish me luck!
@misheshe trust me!!! i've talked to him and he is NOT gay. just because guys do ballet that doesnt mean they are automatically gay. they just enjoy it and they get to dance with girls and stuff. and believe me they get a really great workout and become very flexible.....kinda like me! if he was gay....pshhh! i would know! i have a gay cheerleader friend and that guy i like is acts NOTHING like him! (: so that should be a good thing!
How can anyone dislike the classics like this. They have no taste in music. I listen to metal, but I grew to love this when I was in Jr. High and High School. This is real music at it's best
How must someone like Tchaikovsky feel after writing a piece like this... Must be like ... walking on the moon and knowing theres only very few people like you...
Tchaikovsky will always be a genius. Especially in these days, he puts the blacked eyed peas, and Justin bieber, and kesha, and lady gaga..etc. to shame. He will always be one of the greatest composers of all time.
