Dianne is a formidable actress. Watch this video again in mute, forget the dialogue and just study the body langauge of Dianne Wiest. She is acting with every inch of her being,,the bit where she loses her temper and attempts to try and close up again but failing to, is just...really great art. What a great great actress.
I just watched this for the first time on DVD last night. Dianne Wiest is an absolute marvel in this role. I love how she is able to tell Paul what the real deal is when he was acting like a whiney, petulant child. Like the marvelous Frances Conroy in "Six Feet Under," she is able to say a lot with just a look or an eye twitch. Love it!
This is my favourite moment of this wonderful series, Gina's episodes were always the ones to look forward to. I love the way she finally tells it like it is: Anyone who has to work in any sort of caring profession will recognise her reaction, sometimes people stop using you as a sounding board and end up using you as an emotional punch bag. She finally snaps and punches back. Unprofessional, but it must have felt so good in the moment. Nice one Dianne!
Was this sent for consideration in 2008 which won her the Emmy that year, or was it sent for consideration in 2009 when she ended up being nominated but not taking it home?
I remember the first time that I saw this episode. Dianne and Gabriel play extraordinarily well together in thier sessions, and when Gina finally blew her lid, it was really memorable in contrast to her usual composed, stoic demeanor. This was one of the best episodes in the series.
For me the best part of this show is watching his episodes where he's with Gina. All week we see Paul the Doctor with a few private moments but when he's with Gina we get a peak into how he thinks, feels, and really talks. I sometimes feel bad for Gina because he directs his problems towards her, he wants her to be a friend but he wants her to be his doctor. Is it possible from her p.o.v to be both? I doubt it. Thanks for sharing this vid!
I forgot to add that when she finally tells him what she thinks I can't help but cheer her on! He looks shocked and hurt that she would react to him in that way.!
