  • Oh my God.... is this guy realyy a national hero? The great Nelson? Its a movie right? not real plzz. I really pity the young.

  • start the mutiny already. some people need their arses kicked asap.

  • "Blurhghghhh."

    "What?"

"He said, he was winning sir."

  • Clinically insane captain, cowardly doctor and indecisive first lieutenant. Not a good combination at all.

  • Sawyer is halfway to being a Pirate Ship captian lol

  • One side effect of opium is sleeplessness. Disorintaion, dizziness, etc. Euphoric. The captain knows he's sinking and he does want to die. He's lost the man he was and over compensates by needing total control. He knows Horatio is the man he was so takes his frustrations out on him. And the doctor too is an addict. They need to keep it a secret so the doctor backs the captain in anything he does. If the captain is brought up on charges the doctor's role in giving him the stuff will be found out.

  • "He said. He was winning" . Haha

  • I would fill my pants with cake... If I woke up and saw that dude staring at me. :O

  • 'murrrr'

    "What?"

'He said he was winning sir.'

  • Whoa whoa whoa, is that Gene Hunt?! Oh my god, it is! I didn't recognize him!

  • I've been racking my brains trying to place Hobbs...it's Matt freakin' Truman!

  • @ThatsMrMoronToYou Hi. Philip Glenister (Hobbs) was ace as DCI Gene Hunt in 'Life On Mars' too. If you've not seen it the first part can be found by searching this on YouTube: 'Life On Mars - (UK) Series 1 Episode 01 - Part 1' :-)

  • @1979LITTLEMISS Thanks! I will.

  • David Warner! What a great actor!

  • The captain is insane, the first lieutenant is a spineless coward, the doctor and the gunner are totally corrupt, Horatio hasn't slept in days, Wellard is drugged on laudanum, and now poor Styles has been beaten to a pulp.

This is the voyage of the damned.

  • @FlippinBooks The captain and doctor are addicts too. If the doctor puts the captain away, he will be transfered and his addiction will be found out. That's why he does everything in his power, no matter how grave the situation, to back him up, as immoral as it is. They are living in their own world and when it gets bad, they just take more. Willard isn't use to the stuff and has the dizziness he does. The doctor's end all cures.

  • @Songsmirth Did you know in brittain the 19th century opium was consumed like alcohol by the upperclass? So no, there is no such thing as an addict being discovered and dismissed from the royal naval during the era in which the hornblower series is set. For thousands of years opium was shared at parties and consumed for pleasure. In india there was even a ceremony regarding the giving of opium to guests. It's arrogant to believe that modern puritan beliefs trump thousands of years of culture

  • @PatrickEngSU Interesting Patrick. I will look it up but it makes sense. Spoiled people who didn't know how deadly it could be. The thing is I've read a great many books of the era and I can't remember one that told of the upper classes using opium like this. I remember one that had a noble being addicted but that's all. Does't mean what you say isn't true. I'll look it up. Thanks Pat. I want to get the history correctly. Do you have any references please? :) Songs

  • @Songsmirth I wish we would not blame drugs for our problems. People commit crimes; drugs might motivate some people to do bad acts, but so does love for instance. Crimes should be prosecuted, not their causes. One isn't evil for doing drugs, but for doing bad acts. In my experience opium only has the potential to cause crime when it cannot be obtianed and, while I agree that drugs like cocaine should be illegal, I believe opium should be sold a pharmacies. Your comments struck a chord in me

  • this seems to be base on "Under enmy colors" which isn't a Hornblower book but a truly brilliant naval adventure story, does anyone know which book this is actually based on?

  • @marcothemute09 It's based on "Lieutenant Hornblower", which is, I believe the second book in the series. Not second in order of publication, but in chronological order of the events of Hornblower's career.

I just finished reading it. It's a great book. :)

  • Sharpe would know how to set Randal straight.

  • 'what did he say?' 'he said he was winning, sir' hehe classic!

  • stiles kills someone in this episode i think its hobbs mate?

  • Isn't Stiles a Bosun's Mate? Doesn't mean he can give a command or order that has to be followed by comman crew? Why is that man that takes his rum not listen to him?

  • Matthews is really my favorite minor character....always so calm and reliable

  • paranoid much?

  • 8:07! It looks like the old Archie was returning for a moment.

  • The captain looks like an older Alan Rickman.

  • @PKtheFirst David Warner is the actor - got an Oscae for Gunner back in the 70's. Specialises in plying nutters in powah.

  • "Your life is in my hands, don't forget it" Bloody hard to forget, wierd ass!

  • Stiles said he was winning. Haha Stiles is the best.

  • It was generally a brutal age.

  • I wonder how often it was the case that the doctor would neglect his duty to please the Captain in the Navy.

Dr. Clive's reluctance to pronounce Captain Sawyer unfit really irks me.

  • the captains going insane

  • the captain's my favourite character, I'm serious.

  • Hornblowers real close to snapping and just shoving that psycho overboard!

    We all wish he would...

  • then he gets court martaled and hanged...i didn't know you hated him so much

  • I just hate him cause of poor Wellard :(

  • Or worse, court martialed and flogged through the fleet.. Given the choice, the hanging is better than flogging through the fleet

  • i love Stiles even in the worst situations he still has heart xD

and he wouldve won if he didnt have 3 people on him...

    poor wellard

  • And whats wrong with it? It`s normal that someone likes movie/book character. It usually means that either actor play his role very good, eiter character is made very well or actor is handsome ( or this 3 together) It`s normall get use to it

  • yay styles. im weirdly crushing on him, that weird right? eh i dont care.

  • Glad i'm not alone!

Weirdest crush i've ever had :D

  • Oh! Oh poor Styles, he needs a very gentle hug.

  • " i was winning" god i love styles

    mr hornblower is hotttt :)

  • Styles is awesome, isn't he?

  • thies series got better and better.........

  • Hornblower, Archie,Bush, Styles and Matthews are the best men.

  • Yeah definitely, glad Archie grew stronger character wise.

  • @mexicanendric

Yep, very brave men who stopped more hell.

  • 'He says he was winning sir' lol!

    love styles and mathews!

  • The captain and doctor- it's like Aubrey and Maturin gone bonkers.

  • lmao! Just what I was thinking!

  • Brilliantly spoken!

  • Maturin could drink this guy under the table- with Laudanum.

  • LOL well said my friend

  • @rebahsol Defintely, lets hope they don't have violin and bass concerts together :P

  • Cap'n's just a teeny bit schizo...

  • ohh!! thnx :)!
