I can't understand people who say that Yngwie has no feeling or he uses just one scale etc. ARE YOU GUYS FUCKING DEAF OR WHAT?! Yngwie is the Mozart of our century. He is lightyears more advanced in musical level than some of the fake guitarists out there.
Well Bach would certainly be impressed with the professionality of the orchestra and the guitarist, but he would recognize the harmonic progression as a total cliche and Yngwie's non stop use of the minor harmonic scale as impressive but fairly boring. I don't see why Yngwie bothered to find an orchestra to accompany this pretentious pies of crap, but I have to say Yngwie does rock the fuck out on this track. It works better as symphonic rock than as classical music...
You look at people these day of this caliber and you shake your head that 1 out of every 4 million people know these peoples names. Then you have to sort through another million to find someone who knows a song they played. One thing I learned in music school, never say this person is better because they all bring something unique to the table. We being such a minority need to embrace the people who are out there still
if anyone knows anything about j.s Bach you would understand he is very complicated and involved. Ynwgie studied him and plays a very classical rock and thats hard. so people should give him the respect he deserves.
jesus his finger are so chunky and big, the guitar looked fake from a certain angle when he was playing (Absolutely no disrespect to his musical prowess)
And if you know classical music than you have to agree with me !! I think if Bach would hear a Yngwie concerto than he wouldnt be impressed. Its really good but its not genious !! Playing wise yngwie ofcourse is the fuckin best !!! hahaha but it would have been more intresting if he made whole compositions instead of 60% composition with 40% improvised shredding on top. I mean if a violin player would play like this :P well than i would not like it at all, I cant believe i talk like this abou
@xSnoweyexp i think any classical composer would be impressed to see sombody play the guitar as a solo instrument, seeing as it wasn't even a respected accompaniment instrument during their time, and now a guitarist has an entire symphony behind him. I don't see why youre saying 40% improvised shredding like it's a bad thing. He shouldn't have to play something the same every time, and I don't think anyone has the right to speak for a dead composer, seeing as nobody living actually knew him.
@xSnoweyexp I beg to differ. Yngwie has the right approach. As do Alan Holdsworth. As did Shawn Lane. It's all them guitarists performing only grey training recitals that have it the wrong way.
And while classical musicians today play written music to the note, that wasn't the case at all with their originals.
I sort of like this. I know music pretty well, so I have to say that his orchestral accompaniment is lacking somewhat, in a very uninteresting sort of way. He would do well to brush up on his theory. All of that aside, he is very talented. I have a great deal of respect for him simply because he went out there and did it. I wonder if there are any tonal composers still alive that would be willing to work with him.
@metalloversrejoice mm haha, I seriously adore Yngwie and he is my alltime favorite guitar player. I have this DVD at home and I must say that its great !! for sure it is but I would not describe it as classical music and it is definately not even close to what Mozart or Bach did ( ok people are gonna hate me now ) but its true, the compositions where good but they where not great I mean its all pretty basic stuff in the world of classical music. I LIKE IT !!! THATS FOR SURE
for a genre of music that typically doesn't convey a whole lot emotionally, yngwie really brings it to the table in overdriven force, with both sound and body language
cierren el orto fracasados de mierda, quiero ver cuantos de los pelotudos que critican pueden hacer siquiera una decima parte de lo que hace malmsteen.
@tnt420tnt yeah he did, and that's why it sound so cheesy.

@tnt420tnt ok, u liked it. I'm doing you a favour in case you ever become a great guitarist and feel the need to look to the past - don't. We move on, we always have in the past.
I love how people call yngwie fat, if you lived in America you would consider him a semi-fit person haha. If you want to see someone that IS fat but can shred as well then look at Shawn Lane, he is a legend now that he is dead however his disease did make him gain an insane amount of weight.
I just marvel at this man. I know nothing of music professionally, but I know that I love this stuff. I do know classical music quite well...and love the way it can be integrated into rock !

@dnikhilrao I think it's because he invented the neo-classical genre amongst rock/metal so people expect him to play as if he released eclipse again into 2010, you know.
Neoclassical was inventend in 1920’s (Satie, Stravinsky, Poulenc, Milhaud, etc., etc., etc). Neo classical means to study music from the past and re invent or translate some parameters (like the classical organization of the form, or the almost mechanical rythms of Baroque period) into music of THIS age.
This is nothing but neoclassical. He just studied some Bach suits and copyed the same armonic and melodic progressions! He is not neoclassic at all.
@Vitisaurio Yes everything you said is true. My uncle who was from that time as a pianist , passed this to me before he died. In 1966 when I was 6 yrs old, AM radio was it. I was a total freak and out cast. Now when I shred on keyboards, the few that come out to see good live music see me as this God. I really hate that term, My girlfriend is a guitarist and came from the same background. we held each other tight as small children at Julliard. Now if you want to hear shredding hear her

Never heard an electric guitar (or any kind of guitar) used with an orchestra before. Pretty interesting, given how much I normally hate electric guitars.
great version of the song.... just beatiful....people who say these are just a bunch of notes without "music" can't understand yngwies music...its another dimension of music, at the beginning i thought the same way, but now, i understand and its so good
Music's there, but at times it feels like it's basically a whole lot of fast shredding jammed together. Also, where's the dynamics? Nearly no volume or speed changes, it's just one continous, fast, guitar solo. Basically, the guitar 'talks' more, 'speaks' less, but that's opinion - it can and will vary!
I like the concept of an electric guitar *finally* being used as an orchestral instrument. I wish to do a similiar thing, and now I know that such a thing...is possible and has been explored.
92% of kids have turned to rap, pop & hip hop. If you'r one of the 8% who like to headbang and disturb the peace, copy and paste this to four vids.KEEP THE SPIRIT OF ROCK!
look avecesmembolo, grow up were not seventh graders here who think theyr cool cuz they can say things about your mom and sex. Malmsteen is great, but so is petrucci. as people, i can see why you like malmsteen, because he was a total gerk, unlike petrucci who is mild mannered and respectful. both are amazing guitarists, with different styles.
hahaha ok... you really are mature... and learn some english!! go to fuck your self??? hahahahaahah!!the right way is GO FUCK YOUR SELF you ignorant imature faggot!!
It's all in the hair. I bet you a million if he cut his hair, he couldn't play the intro to Stairway To Heaven. I used to have long hair and played pretty good guitar. Then, I cut it all off and now I'm shite. See? I'm telling you, it's the truth. Look at Metallica. Before haircut: Great. After haircut: Pish.
To see this (shredder+symphony) done well, check out Steve Vai's "Tender Surrender."

actually 2 significant guitarists were playing in this style WAY before yngwie.
Though those guitarists never made the genre Neo-Classical as popular as Yngwie, they did have a very strong prowess in the style.
Uli Jon Roth from the Scorpions. Listen to The Sails of Charon.
Ritchie Blackmore of Rainbow. Listen to Gates of Babylon.
Both those songs were on albums released in 1977. Yngwie was 14 then.

I wish to do a similiar thing, and now I know that such a thing...is possible and has been explored.

look avecesmembolo, grow up were not seventh graders here who think theyr cool cuz they can say things about your mom and sex. Malmsteen is great, but so is petrucci. as people, i can see why you like malmsteen, because he was a total gerk, unlike petrucci who is mild mannered and respectful. both are amazing guitarists, with different styles.

I think this live version is the best! The orchestra just makes everything complete.

Also, all skinheads are shite at guitar.
