Reyes did screw up here, but at least he's aware there's a distinction and is not in a position of responsibility for soldiers' lives. Bush had no idea there was a religious divide of sunnis and shi'ites in iraq, and therefore probably the entire middle east. Starting a war and uprooting people's lives without realizing the significant historical differences and conflicts that affect those people is just plain criminal.

I haven't heard anyone make that claim, including Reyes. What's not to understand? Stein: "Al Qaeda is what, I asked, Sunni or Shia?" Also: "And Hezbollah? I asked him. What are they?" If Reyes can't comprehend these simple questions, your excuse for him only deepens my fears.

How about Reyes telling Newsweek we should send 20,000 to 30,000 troops sent to stabilize Iraq; a month later Bush's announcement came -- almost identical but for only 21,500 troops, Reyes: "We don't have the capability to escalate even to this minimum level", blasting Bush.
