For A While I Always Wanted To Drive A MK4 Ford Escort. Actualy Am Gnna Look Around To Buy One.... My Opinion: The Best Mk4 Escort Ford Produced. Very Simple To Operate...
I used to have one on a 1990 G plate in medium blue (forget name but was most common blue around). I had this between 1993 and 2005, when I then scrapped it and got a 1996 N plate Peugeot 306 2.0 XSi 8v Ph1. The Escort was great on fuel economy and ride comfort, but lousy on passing MOTs, understeer like crazy, noisy tractor engine (tappets needed adjusting constantly), build quality was terrible & could even bend the doors with your bare hands! Brake drums & h/b cable always seizing up. LOL!
@EgoShredder Sounds like you had a bad experience lol.
Luckily I haven't had any problems with mine yet, been though 3 MOT's with no advisories and had 30,000 miles of trouble free motoring, mileage is almost at 50,000 (16.1.12) runs very well and with great fuel economy as you say, I'll continue to look after it and plan to take it well over 100,000 over the next few years !
I have a Honda Prelude now also so the Escort is garaged between 1st March - 1st November.
I bought my three year old Escort with 54,000 on the clock and it had been a hire car, with a deep rip in the back seat and rust / bubbling paint around the rear wiper joint. Actually it did sail through plenty of MOTs as well, including one year when I was the MOT inspectors assistant by accident! He was on his own, so I stood at the rear saying 'yep the light came on fine', while I tapped the rear indicators so they came on (crap connections of Ford lights). Memories lol!
The engine was tappety if not coorectly adjusted. it sounded like the tappets were correctly set on this one. its a minter of an escort. always buy an old car from and old person most of the time garaged and not used alot.
Good car, good to see the origonal stereo and hubcaps too :-). I drive a modded RS turbo but i do love seeing a good mk4 driving about. Used to see alot up until around 2005 now whenever you see them they mostly look like they've been dropped in a river. Good work on keeping her so clean!
Lovely little car. The previous owner obviously took very good care of this car, The elderly really mind their cars. That car is mint with no rust usually on these cars. Well done.
@Toyotacamry1993 really? then that was a truly sad day...took us lots of places with that car.ended up trading it in for a h reg orion-h374 wfv, hope that exists still:)
looks good ,i bought a 1600 ghia auto with 28,000 on it had bills for £900 spent on it last jan, even got original ford radio and factory fitted amp/graph ,what i liked was that it is pre emission none of those bloody sensors or cats to go wrong ,i picked up a set of 4 brand new shocks in boxes for £35 and will fit them when the sun comes out .fitted a tow bar and sprayed the trailer same colour as the car.
bought one exactly the same the other day... clean like yours, gonna keep it nice and clean. rs turbo alloys some lens covers and spots... thats about it really
the elderly do really look after their cars. There is a man in my town who has a 1982 ford sierra in beige he's had it from new and it is in almost mint condition.
I loved your car! Congratulations for you! I also had an brazilian Escort XR3 (MK4) 1987 with 1.6 alcohol CHT engine, was a good car, very fast and economic! Regards from Rio de Janeiro!

Cracking car mate! Very nice indeed. Bodywork and engine look mint!
Also nice to see it's totally standard, without the daft exhaust and other aftermarket crap you usually see on them.
