  • Does anybody know what bass guitar is that ??

  • @NecaTheBoy95 Alembic, long scale 34" series 2

  • @minx3a That's a Series 1. You can tell because it has a hum cancelling pup between the 2 single coil pups

  • @SmakitNicely Both series one and Two have the hum Cancelling dummy coil. the difference is7 lamination's in the neck and pots instead of switches for the "Q' of the tone control in series II and more body lamination's as well . The series one has a 5 piece neck ,"Q" switches and less body lamination's.. More details available @ Alembic.com,cheers

  • @76alembic: Thank you for the info !.

  • @minx3a You are more than welcome ,mate. You could tell me about JD's and Status i am sure, cheers

  • @minx3a I thought he initially got 34" scale but didn't like it so he had the two 32" scale ones made the same. Anyway really nice video. This sort of style really compliments the Alembic unlike some of the live concerts (apart from the Ryde Theatre 2000 which sounds awesome) where it sounds too tinny IMO.

  • @MrMel0dy many thanks !!.

  • Mark King IS THE BEST! :D

  • Mark.k is the pop version of stanley .c

  • i recall when i was starting bass, in 87 id been playing cello and upright bass in orchestra...i got into that because my dad is a phd and if i ended up wanting music or being musical he directed me..and i recall when (lessons in love) from level 42 came out and i honestly at 14 thought it was a synth bass arpegigator.and then the fact he sings on top of that...he has cordination that astounds me 26 years on now..he learned in a few years, its taken me 3 times that to keep near him, a bass idol

  • where did this footage come from?

  • Love it, great vibe

  • Fucking love that lick at 1:37 - 1:39. So good.

  • there is something terribly organic about this practice session - absolutely fabulous!

  • I personally like this Alembic bass a whole lot better. The tone is f.ckin' awsome!

  • Wish he could use a JayDee up on stage again.

    My favorite bass!

  • I prefer this alembic, but the good old JD is cool too :)

  • The harmonics Sir King brings to the base is so remarkable. I wish he would play slower more often (as he does here) with this phenomenal with of harmony - when is the next 'Trash' coming out!?

  • Silly Putty!!

  • Sounds like Stanley Clarke.

  • Great story Moray! Thanks for sharing.

  • I used to work with mark at macri's music in London, he was a drummer then - never heard him play because we didn't sell drums! he had just returned from the US where he went to see Lenny White - kept ranting how good he was - this was about 1978 or so. Quite where his bass talent came from is frankly amazing...as his playing sure is - if your read this Mark, cheers from Moray! (now in Sydney Aus)

  • Love the SOLO...best yet...his other stuff too repetative...nice to hear some new tunes come out of Mark King...very nice...he should do more of these original pieces instead of doing the same type solos everyday....

  • Yes you can hear Stan the Man in Marks playing; I bloody well hope so, !.Stan and Jaco have influenced several generations of players , Mark has a voice on the bass and with his great lead Vocals ,he is unique in that way .Love that Alembic ,the Status MKII is good as well, with a very stable neck.

  • only the audio is worth....

  • Excelente Mark King!!! Lástima el camarógrafo desenfocando la imagen.

  • Yes, there is only one Stan Clarke just as there is only one MK !, both musicians havd had a huge influence on other bass players and music over the years, I don't agree that MK is a "one trick pony", but hey !, we are all entitled to our opinions !!!.

  • Mark King is my hero. He is my biggest influence. I wear my bass up high like his and I stick a bit of tape around my thumb too =) He definately isn't a one trick pony. He has a gorgeous Jazz feel aswell as his delicious slap playing. He is actually incredibley versatile. But as minx3a said, we are all entitle to our opinions =) But I'm just sticking up for my hero.

  • @alembic63 one trick pony my ass, wake the hell up. Check out the True Colours CD by Level 42. Yes Stan is one of the all time greats, but Mark is in the same league easily.

  • Thanks Minxa - this is Mark KIng being 'natural' at his nass playing, only judt learned after 2 years and would still love to play like this !!

    Thanks for posting m8

  • Your'e welcome mate, glad you enjoyed the clip !!.

    Mike.

  • Very tasty stuff!

  • Fantastic video Michael top man buddy.

    Any chance of a copy?

  • I wish Mark would do more of this type of stuff live - less fast triplets and more melodic stuff.

I also miss the great Alembic sound he had for a few years.

Still, listening to MK play is always a pleasure in whatever context.

  • @TheMightyHartley the melodie is from stanley clarke the album school days

  • @bluespirat I'd disagree. ONE small part sounds like SC, the rest is merely SC-influenced. I like SC, by the way.

  • @TheMightyHartley I have to agree with you there !, I also have great respect for SC.

  • Minx - you've spot on mate. The 1st segment is a alternative take on Stanley Clarke's "Silly Putty". Great nonetheless!!

I wish Mark would play like this more often -ie: slicker and less mechanical. He's got the chops for it.

  • this shows the real Mark King. Woooww!

Love his Alembic sound. Much better than his Status sound. Mark don't use the carbon stuff. Thats for boats not for basses!

  • What's the rapport Wooten???

Wooten never right a tune pass top 50 off bilboard or watever

  • the best in the world is mark king...............who is wooten? wooten.....ah ah ah is a children. wooten is a children compared at mark. king n1 in the world.

  • it's not like Victor Wooten is a child compared to mark king, because they have different style and soul

I believe Vix can play every Mark King's stuffs, but thats just not Vix style

  • Thanks minx3a.

When I watched the Pier Interview several years ago, I was very impressed. But this extra vid is much more impressive.

    'The Influences Returns!!!'.

  • i taught he was like victor wooten or something when i hear my friends talking about him but then i found out by watching this he is actually groovy and has a great feel for the bass!

  • great vid minx thanks!!

  • I could watch Mark King all day and he would never bore me.

  • Wow, this one's great ! Thanks for sharing this with us.

  • the long version of the bass bit on 'The Pier' - never seen this before! Great things from the King - can you get it converted to MP3?

    Thanks for posting

  • Absolutely right, spot on that man !, Stan Clarkes influence on MK really shows in his "noodling" here !.

  • Awesome clip! The beginning sounded a bit like Lupsy Lu from s.Clarke :)

  • Right Ramon, on this rec come out all the Clarke influences...

    Mark's taste is unbelieveble however...

    I love his style....
