Sketchup to 3D modeling is like crayons, when drawing. If you are truly interested in car design, you should only work on your drawing an design thought processes. If you want to do car modeling, you should look into Alias Studio. In reality, it is one or the other.
@TheAdamantia1 In reality I do my cars in Sketchup because I know my way around it so well. I have improved my design process immensely as I have also improved my modeling process, so if you don't like the car that's your choice. The thing I like about SU is the fact it is free, I can share it easily (3DWH) and I've been using it for 3 years and am not about to throw it away. I will eventually look into other software but for now, I use Sketchup. THAT'S the reality.
@ShimmyAndStealthSP2 The proper word, rather than saying in "reality", would be in "Industry" it would be one or the other. As a professional, just giving advice, if you are truly interested in pushing your passion. Putting this much effort shows passion. I know what you're trying to do, but Sketchup can't deliver, no matter how good you are with it.
Your tools are what can make you fly, or severely handicap you. Real Car Modelers, use Alias Studiotools. Animation uses 3dsMax, and Maya.
@TheAdamantia1 Well I am not on any budget with my 3D stuff, but I am doing a 2012 Shimmy Auto Line and if the vids do well, my monetization feature will allow me to earn revenue from them..I will most likely choose to use that revenue to buy 3dsMax (becasue of the modeling and the animation features) but that is in the future, certainly. Thanks for your comment and input, I appreciate it :D
@tudy000 Um, well heres the deal. The car as you can see was created prior (the orange one at 0:39 ) and then subsmoothed (the one at 0:42 , and the rendered one), Subsmoothing smooths out the edges of a car if they are built correctly for it. It heightens the level of polies but at the same time makes the whole process behind the Smoothing (which is like for an example, glossing) is very tricky. The tool costs money to get so thats why you haven't seen it in normal sketchup. Hope that helps.
im sry but i dont buy the sketch up bullshit,i tyred to create a conept car in sketch up and it ended up like shit and im not an amateur im the domain i study auto design at the university but you simply cant create a good looking car in that program, lets not talk about concepts
