After diving deep into his own doom, like charging forward to kill someone even though he will be killed for sure afterwards by the others.

And 3:57 to the end would be after the fight when the main character has slain his enemy and realizes that it was one of his old friends or that his fight was in vain or something.

@PyroReguLus It appears you already realized your mistake but just a better explanation for others: At no point in the story of "Beethoven's Last Night" does he sell his soul to Mephistopheles, who is the devil, to rid himself of his deafness (which is what I assume PyroReguLus meant - although that still makes little sense, I won't go into detail). Fate is the one who offers to remove Beethoven of his deafness.

But Fate then helps him to see how crucial his loss of hearing was to everything in his life and how much of his music would never have been written otherwise. In part because it was only after he was completely deaf that he could hear the Muses of Music, who inspired his symphonies and compositions. Which is what this song, The Dark, is about - as someone already said, it's the muses singing to him after he went deaf, as he wallows in despair, believing music is now lost to him forever.
