  • YOU SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH!

    <3

  • The line that shows Brtleby's fall for me is this: "Scion or not, she's just a human." He says the word human the same way we do Insect. As he said, he "rebelled" initially out of sympathy due to how vicious Old Testament God was, now he's taken the 180 and his bitterness has overcome him. Given the situation I can't say I don't sympathize, but what he plans to do results in Omnicide if there is such a term. Humans can, and do, suck; but we've never considered ending everything.

  • I've never noticed this before, but check out both of their shirt-hoodie combo!

  • @ThePoonerBooner

Lol I know right, I've always loved their Red-Grey counter combo they rock with each other in this.

  • Loki: "You sound like the morning star."

Bartleby: "You shut YOUR FUCKING MOUTH SERAPH!"

Loki: "You do, you sound like fucking Lucifer, you fucking lost it! You're not talking about going home Bartleby, you're talking about WAR ON GOD! Well fuck that. I have seen what happens to the proud, when they take on the throne. I'm going back to Wisconsin."

Bartleby: "WE'RE GOING HOME LOKI! AND NO ONE ... Not you, not even the almighty himself, is going to make that otherwise."

  • @TableKMusicVideos I never noticed the Seraph line until you quoted it here. That adds just another awesome level to the scene and Kevin Smith's writing.

  • @aussiejed1

Yeah lol I've seen the movie so much I was bound to pick up on things and quotes and such, and I'm sure like everyone there's still things I missed lmao. I love the scene and Kevin's writing is phenomenal!

  • for the past 6000 years, humankind has been on a path to bring about its very own extinction, and we've been here to help prevent it every fucking time. We never asked for much in return, not to be worshipped, not to be your masters.... just to be acknowledged and loved like you are! AND YOU COULDN'T EVEN DO THAT! In 2012 I say 'let it fucking happen!' :p

  • This scene was so damn epic.

  • Great movie. Only one thing missing..the devil. Humans, apostles, angels, demons.. even god herself showed up..gotta dig that:)

  • its the catholism...

  • I've always love this scene

  • YOU SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH, SERAPH!

  • i agree with bartleby. humans suck and are ungrateful greedy locusts who need to be ''taught a lesson''

  • @Da1337Man hold on to ya fucking seat pal! ;D

  • @ U can sense a sexual tension between those two? They're close because they are Angels like brothers, nothing more nothing less.

  • @lind685

Or its because Matt and Ben are extremely close friends and have worked closely together many times.

  • I love how the acoustics and reverb makes it sounds like you're in a church cathedral.

  • Can sense the sexual tention between those two

  • Great actors if i ever have to perform a scene it would be this!

  • This whole scene was levels of amazing that I can't even express in words.

  • Best scene in the movie. What great actors. Truly inspirational. "You're talking about fucking war on GOD". Amazing.

  • Satan told Eve before she at the apple surely you will not die but "YOUR EYES WILL BE OPEN AS GOD" that's why he said his eyes are open.

  • @lind685 It's all mythology anyway so I think Kevin is a highly imaginative spiritual person who has no sense of dogma. The moment you take your faith seriously is when angels start finding loopholes to get back into heaven.

  • I'm a firm believer in Jesus Christ. I believe, because of what I've experience in life.knowing that there has to be a great divine power. That case's me to considered and try to walk upright threw out the days of my life. For we walk by faith and not by sight. We believe but Angels have seen. This movie helps me see things for what we are at times as people.

  • @lind685 I cannot help but agree. for all its dark humor and crude jokes, i can't help but feel this movie shows an accurate view on an angelic perspective, especially in this secene

  • "I'm going back to Wisconsin." Those words are bone chilling. That is like North America's Hell.

  • What choice do we really have when the penalty for ignoring God is Hell? The prospect of an inescapable, eternal punishment negates the idea that we truly have free will.

How can free will be truly free when God places conditions on it. I'd class him as something of a benevolent tyrant with moments of psychotic anger. And tyrants don't let their people enjoy too much freedom.

  • At 2:58, does Bartleby say, "You shut your F*****N mouth, sir?" Couldn't make out the last word, but after seeing Kevin's Q&A's, and noticing his love of the term 'sir', wondered if that's the case.

  • @MrFnClean I just caught that too. I think he calls him "seraph."

  • This scene makes me question why ppl say Ben afflek is a shit actor?

  • " and what about J and Bob I mean those guys were alright" haha love that line

  • This is brilliant, i might do it for my english exam.

  • Such a powerful scene, and it's films like this along with other Kevin Smith films that prove to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that Ben Affleck is indeed a good actor.

  • I understand why the two were thrown out of Heaven permanently. They knew perfection. there is no excuse. At least they weren't cast into Hell.

  • @redshieldshatterer It was worse...they were sent to Wisconsin! lol

  • @tew8197 oh shit that's right. Boy, did they screw up

  • "And some of them don't even believe he exists." The disgust and amazement in Bartleby's voice when he says that. He has a point though. Talk about ungrateful.

  • Great job by both actors but Matt damon stole this scene. "You sound like the morning star, you do you sound LUCIFER man youve fucking lost it" awesome line.

  • Bartleby is awesome. He is a Watcher. They weren't that bad. They actually fought on God's side against Lucifer. They fell later on just because they got horney for human women.

  • @destructingparabola far from the case, even if it was they're angels so they have no sex organs lol.

  • Superb scene, by the end of the film I felt terrible for Bartleby. He really did go postal and all because his idealised version of humanity didn't match up to the reality of what selfish pricks we can all be.

The Watcher watched for far too long and just didn't like what he saw. It's tragic.

  • Fucking best scene ever. Awesome film and criminially underrated!!.

  • right here, Kevin Smith's strength

  • Reason at it's best!! Go Bartleby!!

  • ya the last Scion( decendent) like the car ( scion) a decendant

  • @Osirisrisehorus those r just 2 of the names for him metisophilese is another( ya think I spelled that name wrong)

  • "your talking about the last Scion, for Christ sakes!" lol @ blasphemy.

  • The echo and the music (when it arrives) in this scene give it extra epicness.

The Christian right were wrong to protest this movie. They should have been praising it, and recommending every Christian sees it. Sure, it contains poo jokes and drug references, but it also contains scenes affirming belief and praising the idea of a Divine Being. Smith made a movie that celebrates his Catholic faith, but also tasks people to question it when necessary... guess that's why they hated it.

  • "I've seen what happens to the proud when they take on the throne." -one of the most epic lines ever

  • "and what about jay and bob, I mean those guys where alright!"

  • War on God Gives me the Chills

  • @SSJSasuke777 Ditto

  • I think what makes this scene extra epic is when Loki starts saying "I've heard a rant like this before... you sound like Lucifer man!" you realise that these two were actually present when Lucifier ranted against God and was cast down from Heaven. "I have seen what happens to the proud when they take on the throne." That is the ultimate in Epic.

  • I don't know what it is, but this is like one of my favorite scenes of this movie!

  • KILL ME...fuckers i dnt know what ur talking aboyut!!!BUT I WILL REVENGE MY FATHERS NAME???JEHOVAH!!!!U DONT KNOW BOUT HIM !!!BLIND AND DEFTS THATS ALL YHOUY ARE!!!!HAHAHA.....KILL ME BUT MY SONGS LIVE....

  • KILL ME

  • WEVE4 BEEN TROUGH THIDS!!!!!YES WE ARE...THEY BWILL NEVER KILL ME...IM IN EVERY SONG

  • "I've see what happens to the proud when they take on the throne." I get chills every time I watch this scene. And Ben Affleck's speech about the unfair nature of the relationship between God and angels, and God and humans, is very powerful stuff. By the way, has anyone seen The Prophecy, where Christopher Walken's Gabriel has a very similar problem with us "talking monkeys".

  • 1:20 - 1:45 actually spoke to me. No current films really do that for me anymore. For a comedy movie, this had a great story.

  • this scene is made ten times better because of the echo in the parking garage

  • "You're talking baout fucking war on God. Well fuck that. I have seen what happens to the pround when they take on the throne."

    Best line in cinematic history

  • @sleazysnowman1987 yes and it stays true :P

  • @sleazysnowman1987 - The icing on the cake though, was "Fuck that. I'm going back to Wisconsin."

  • this film is just epic ...what happend with the time were films were art ...today films are just there to earn money -.-

  • does anyone else get a kind of West End/Broadway feel from this scene.

  • One of my fav scenes from one of my fav movies, ty for the upload.

  • Kevin Smith's best work.

  • "You're not talking about going home Bartleby, You're talking about fucking war on God! Well fuck that! I have seen what happens to the proud, when they take on the throne." Awesome scene.

  • I love it when Loki says "I've heard a rant like this before" and the music starts, the music that raises the hair on your neck... this is a perfect scene that captures the epicness of what Bartleby is saying... "You sound like Lucifer man!" Kevin Smith knows his Bible back to front, and made a film that affirmed his beliefs and is actually a pro-religion movie. If the Christian right protestors had ever bothered to watch it they may have understood that.

  • @aussiejed1 that scene and the deleted Azriel scene where he describes hell made so much sense, that it quite literally scared the shit out of me. I honestly wouldnt say im a Jesus freak, but i have faith (im Catholic) and these two scenes have never left my memory-and i dont think they ever will.

  • @PetShopMod Yeah, and you know what I like? They hardly mention the devil at all. Like maybe twice in the whole movie, as if he is just simply too dark and frightening to even mention. That to me is the most terrifying part about it.

  • You know if Bartleby was just a watcher then there should have been no way he could have taken on Loki, the Angel of Death, in a fight. So if Loki really wanted to go back he should have.

  • @Midnighttree This is true a grigori such as Bartleby would not be able to stand against a seraphim but Loki would never wish to fight one he thinks of as his brother. It's not til the end when he realsies what will happen that he finall decides to stand up to Bartleby. But by then he is human and bartlebey is still an angel so he gets killed. Loki has a bizarre but strict code of ethics that would not allow him to fight Bartleby until he becomes human and gets a conscience.

  • I wonder who would have played Lucifer....

  • @GarakTheTailor Bill Cosby

  • This is the best scene in Dogma in my opinion, it's one of my favorite movies, one of those movies I could watch over and over.

  • I love the look in Bartleby's eyes when Loki accuses him of wanting war against God. Its perfect. A mixture of evil, arrogance and maybe even realization. Kills me...

  • @AngelWolf12 Reason at its' best.

  • One of Ben Affleck's best moments in film.

  • My favourite scene of the movie... Affleck is electrifying and real

  • "i have seen what happens to the proud when they take on the thrown"

  • @sjmoney102183 amen :)

  • @sjmoney102183 I love what you did there with 'thrown'......lmao

  • @sjmoney102183 you miss=spelled Throne but yes good catch!

  • @sjmoney102183 throne *sp

  • @sjmoney102183 "Yea, they get THROWN down!" LMAO :D

  • '' your not talking about going home, your talking about fucking war on GOD ''

    Amazing

  • I loved this movie when I was Christian :)

  • @PriestChristopher I love it and still am a Christian! :)

  • "You sound like the Morning Star." That line always sends shivers down my spine. He just says is so...darkly.

  • @AngelWolf12 that whole idea just floored me when I first saw it. I mean, this is the point where our tragic anti-hero transforms into a true demon...

  • @AngelWolf12 I completely agree, following with the line about Lucifer. Great actors

  • @AngelWolf12

Man, whoever decided to give Satan such a sweet-sounding yet threatening nickname as "The Morningstar" was a genius.

  • @Lamporre

    actually its pronounced "mourning star"

  • @electrolyteKaosiz *Morning Star

    srry to say.

  • @Lamporre Before they called him "satan" he was the Morning Star. Satan is his new testament name. in his original incarnation, he was Lucifer, the light-bearer, the first and brightest star in the morning sky, and the most beautiful of God's angels. So "Morning Star" isn't the nickname, "Satan" is.

  • @Sei1863 Umm, there's a difference between Lucifer and Satan...

  • @OsirisRiseHorus You don't know what you're talking about.

  • @Lamporre I'm sure early Christians ripped it off of some earlier religion just like the rest of it

  • @AngelWolf12 Thought it was only me. Chills me too.

  • @AngelWolf12 thought it was just me

  • @AngelWolf12 amen

  • @AngelWolf12 Yeah me too

  • Comment removed

  • " i have seen what happans to proud when they take on the throne!!!!!!!!!"

    epic line!!!

  • funny movie, the angels derseve some worship 4 all their hardwork, maybe they wouldn't b so pissed off. lol

  • one of us might need a nap lol

  • wtf magic world cup button

  • Epic....one of my favorite speeches in movie history, this two were perfect for the roles...this film walked a fine line and walked it well...makes you question but makes you believe aswell...a truly excellent film :)

  • hahaha "i've heard a rant like this before" " you sound like the morning star"

  • If Kevin Smith wrote the Bible... what awesome that would be.

    I'd believe again.

  • This was about one of the very few plot holes of the film. Why does Loki go on anyway if he was against going to the Church? Just because Bartleby says so? And what if he doesn't? What's Bartleby gonna do about it? Aside from that, this movie was epic.

  • @multipurpose101 its not really a plot hole, I think Loki cared for Bartleby and went anyway, besides he kind of has a habit of following whatever Bartleby says anyway.

  • @jinofthethunder hmmm...makes a little more sense now...thanks i guess

  • this is the way supernatural seasons 3&4 should have been

  • "You ok man? Your eye's are kind of..."

I'm sure the word he would have said was Crazed

  • the echo really helps this already awesome speech

  • "I've heard a rant like this before"

dang, yall. im athesit and this shit gave me chills as if it were real.

  • @MagicalMysteryWhore *atheist

  • @MagicalMysteryWhore not to get too deep, but do you understand why it does? No disrespect

  • @rapperbest131

nostalgia. for the first 15 years of my life i was a devoted Catholic. it was 100% real to me. no one on this earth could've changed my mind. it was a beautiful yet terrifying situation. i know what it feels like to TRULY believe and stuff like this just takes me back to all the guilt, fear, and love i felt as a Christian during that time.

  • WAR ON GOD! eww

  • he says ''he'' but god is a woman as they said before in the movie and as a angel he should know that dont you think ?

  • @esrapk It's also stated by Rufus that 'she' is not really anything. Not male or female... so him and her are both wrong... but I suppose it would be awkward to refer to God as 'it'...

  • @FaithLestrange but in the final scene she appears to them as a woman

  • @esrapk It''s God she/he can appear however she/he wants. She/he was also an old man when she/he went to go play skeeball...

  • @FaithLestrange ohws oke

  • @FaithLestrange Of course it would be awkward, but for us, not "it" or him/her, however you want to put it. We like to say him just so we feel's a lot more comfortable in the language presented. Imagine if everywhere we went and all those him's in the Bible were it's. It'd be far too broad, and it feels like there's way less of a connection between us and him. Heh, that's how I think of it anyway.

  • Brilliant scene.

Ben Affleck can act once in a while.

  • @JimmySteller A good actor always does well when he has good material and a good director but no matter how good an actor is, he'll suck if given bad material and poor directing.

  • I love ben's look when matt talks about war on god.

  • @10kreider

I know! It's a great scene. Whoever wrote this scene deserves much congratulations.

  • You know i've been reading some of the arguments on here and I think rufus was right in the movie. I think it would be better if we threw out are belifes and just had ideas instead. It's just like rufus said you can change an idea but changing a belife is trickier. I mean truth be told that is how 9-11 got started with osama bin ladens belife that we are evil.

  • Affleck gives a great performance here but somehow my favorite line still is when Damon says "I have seen what happens to the proud when they take on the Throne." Very cool.

  • Is there any other format for exchanging thoughts in a movie, different from yelling at each other ?

  • Love this scene. Dogma has been my favorite movie for years. Whatever you believe in, seeing this film with an open mind gives you so many interesting perspectives. Ben Affleck is great in this monologue and I love that The Voice is played by Alan Rickman. Shame that this film is seen as just a comedy by many. There's so much more to it than that.

"He gave them more than he ever gave us. He gave them a choice."

    - after seeing this film at least 50 times that quote still gives me chills.

  • @ThePlanetOf God gave us the option to choose and the first thing we choosed was not being with god. That says bad about god indeed.

  • @camilocuesta I'd love to reply to this with many thoughts, but the way you state your opinion - it's like you're sure you know the truth, and I have a hard time discussing these kinda things with people who already know they're right. Secondly, youtube doesn't seem like the type of forum to get into religious discussions in. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, though.

  • @ThePlanetOf It was just a comment, relax

  • @camilocuesta Hah, fair enough.

  • @camilocuesta

    Flawless victory...

  • 00:19 Start of a great monologue

  • ben afflek has a HUUUGE head

  • i love this movie i have seen it 200 times.

  • War on God? The proud taking on the throne? I'm going back to Wisconsin! lol

  • I adore this movie, especially this scen! soo passionated acting. i'm watching this scene every day, since 4 month! (yes, I'm a freakI) it's part of my daily routine. And it never loses its power.

  • this scene is so powerful..the dialogue and the chemistry between them is to the TEE

    simply amazing

  • I know its just a movie but everything he said makes alot of sense especially the part about people even dont think that he's real just because they cant see him

  • Hard to pick the best scene from Dogma, but I would have to say it's a toss up between this one and the board room scene.

  • the dm at my job looks and sounds freakishly like ben affleck

  • wow some of the stuff he says is kinds true =I

  • ahhhh i love matt damon "my god i've heard a rant like this before "

    peace out

  • One of the most dramatic speech scenes in modern cinema. Which is so bizarre since it's Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in a Kevin Smith movie?

    Can't make this shit up.

  • @SpecialFester It shouldn't be bizzare. They worked a lot with Smith before they got famous. They kinda owe him and that's why they appear in most of Kevin's View Askewniverse. It was actually Kevin Smith who even brought the Good Will Hunting script to miramax which launched their hollywood career.

  • @SpecialFester what kenpessumal said.

  • Pageclaim for lumies who come to this vid via Omnires

  • With the echo, it was like sitting in church listening to a sermon or something.

  • @tbmuex Cool observation!

  • i was thinking that too about the reverb, its almost like the voices sounded like they were in your head lol probably sounds a bit nuts, and i am quite stoned now so i could have been trippin' . but anyway, im converting this video to mp3 so i can use it as a long intro to one of my hip hop beats. i think it will sound epic! i think the my own muse (being ganja) just helped me think of this idea lol.

  • best scene in the movie.

probably best scene in the askewniverse.

"My god... I've heard a rant like this before."

  • I love the part where Loki says about rant and around what he seen when the proud take on he throne. Just fills me with adrenaline for some reason.

  • My favorite line in this whole thing actually is the "I have seen what happens to the proud when they take on The Throne." This is actually a really good dramatic scene in my opinion.

  • To all the amateur theologists putting comments... I say...

"My God, I've heard a rant like this before."

Can we just enjoy this scene without constant bickering about our respective religions and such?

  • @danielhiryu Unfortunately that the world we are in.. because when you play with Religon.. You are playing with someone faith. Although many just shrug it off, some totally just get mad.
