I suggest you go round with a hand held cb that has a signal meter and go round with looking for where the signal is strongest. that's what I did when I was getting BT vision interference from a neighbour, let him know and BT come out and sorted it out 3 days later :)
if its evenings only, suspect streetlights.. these are well known. i've seen some PC PSU's cause as much QRN when switched off, ibut still plugged in. ADSL broadband from phone lines is known to raise the general noise floor, as have many many of the black 'plug in the wall' mobile fone chargers and power packs (for routers, cordless phones) etc. you get the idea.
where i live, i get noise on HF from both neighbours PCs and large screen TV sets, and streetlights. so good luck mate. Mark G0YNM
Ok I suspect that the interference is caused by skip
The radio bands have been quite active.....the way to check is quite simple......use an AM CB & listen......u will hear static bursts caused by the sun or caused by storms on earth. The skip on 10/11 meters operates in a 7 year cycle if memory serves me correctly
turn your radio up loud so you can hear it when you are far away in your living area. start turning off breaker switches on your electrical box. when you find the one that dramatically reduces the noise, search that room or area and unplug items one by one until you find what single piece it is that is causing the problem.
if you or someone around you has a plasma tv, that could very well be the problem aswell
Try hooking up a battery and turning off all the circuit breakers in the house. Then you can eliminate all your lighting and the heater etc as the cause. Good coax?
@K4IFX Hi, The coax is fairly new and a good quality one..I will try the breakers and see what difference it makes. The workshop is about 30 feet from the house but Ill give it a try. I do get the same problem using my hand helds though. Its so annoying...

a little tip that might help:
