This dog isn't going 'Yum, baby' but it is not playing, either, the dog's face and tail in the beginning betray a suspicion of the screaming thing, and the nudging is the dog trying to figure out what it is and what's wrong with it. It isn't going to bite the baby, but if this sort of activity continues over months and years, coupled with not leaving the dog alone, tail pulling, any of the things small children do, a bite is very possible.
It is up to the owner about letting thier dog play with their baby. Don't come on here acting like you know how this dog will act, you obviously dont understand that many dogs have the insinct breed into them to want to protect babies and children because they are like the puppies of the pack. Yes, there are some dogs that do not do well with small children, so you need to know your own dog to trust them. Basically if your dog is good with small dogs, its ok with kids.
I don't think the dog thinks the baby is prey, but I can definitely see a possibility for a bite, because especially in the beginning of the video - first eight seconds it is VERY obvious - the dog is clearly unsure and nervous about the baby coming at him.
Dogs stand over and nudge at the soft underbelly of it's prey before making a kill, and when the prey squeaks the dog's killer instinct kicks in quicker. The body language of the dog is one of a dog struggling with the "do I kill it of don't I?", and the approval of the owners is almost like giving the go-ahead to the dog to make it's kill.
This is a tragedy waiting to happen, like it or not.
Common, don't exaggerate. Who told you that dogs are killers? They have been bred for years to become people's best friends. Of course, you have to be careful with babies, but I don't think this dog could do any harm. So please do not make any tragic predictions for the future.
OK you are right in many ways, and yes I have come acrtoss as paranoid. I have grown up around dogs, and love dogs, most families don't experience problems with dog attacks, but sometimes it does happen. Tragedies do happen each year. I personally know a young tot who was turned upon by a 'soft family pooch'. The reason? Well no one read the dog's mind but it happened when the toddler squealed with delight.
following on..... This video has been seen by a dog behaviour specialist who was cringing all the way through - and no I had nothing to do with her seeing it, it was on a forum which was why I saw it. Although it looks cute the body language displayed by this dog is NOT one of loving playful tenderness.
Also babies do not excrete the same hormones as older children, some dogs do not recognise a human baby as human, or as part of the 'pack', and each year the hunt instinct takes over in a small percentage of 'soft loving family pooches' and tragedy does happen, especially when the baby/tot squeals. It's like an injured frightened prey-animal squealing, and it CAN switch on the kill instinct in SOME dogs to end the squealing animal's life.
following on.. It helps to learn to recognise what the body language of dogs actually means to give an educated guess on the dog's feelings and instincts, and how it may react next. The body language of the dog in the video is one of trying to work out what the baby is and what to do with it.
It's muzzling the soft tender bits, as dogs and wolves do before a kill, smelling and nudging, and the dog does not look happy in the video, it looks confused. The chances are it still would refrain from biting, it's probably very soft natured, but as I say - it's situations such as in that video that can lead to tragedy. Wild dogs and wolves, upon finding a squealing little creature not recognised to be part of the pack would kill it.
This has been bred out of dogs through many generations it's true, but the instinct is still there in some. The tot I know is badly scarred for life in the face, but lucky as Mum managed to beat the dog off. Sorry to have caused offence, and I nearly didn't say anything, I know it's not my place - but dog owners please read up on dog behaviour and body language.

Follow this you fucking retard. Your a liar, I don't believe a dog behavior specialist seen this, you made that up so you can go on this 5 post rant. Your just another youtube expert. The wagging tail couldn't be happiness, he's waiting to attack! The smelling couldn't just be playful, he's getting a taste.
Looks charming but no matter how gentle the dog is, it´s still a potentially dangerous animal. It not responsible to have him play with a kid of this age, even under watch of adults.
yet another irresponsible parent!no dog or any animal shud be trusted round a baby! it dont matter if it a family pet or not!!!wha de hell is wrong wit ye? use a condom nxt time!!!!
in a horrible world this is one of the cuter things that just makes ya smile and laff. is that a freakin dog? it looks like a wild animal. its huuuuuge!!

Dogs aren't stupid they know what a baby is the only danger is the reaction a poke in the eye might exact from the dog.

before giving advice learn how to write, and for your information dogs can be around kids as long as there is supervision and you know the dog.
