This is at MOST a 1/8 mile drag race. In such a short distance a Kart has a huge advantage, not that it's in a car's league. As for the two cars, in such a short race an All wheel drive car has an advantage, as there isn't enough distance for a rear wheel (the M3) drive car to catch up.

Of course, 1/8 drag races are what BMW is all about, and what they do best... wait... no.

car with less pounds to haul around per hp

then it will be faster!! And the only way to

make a car go faster for a given final drive ratio is to increase the rpms that the motor

You are right about power to weight. It is the largest single factor in the issue of speed and acceleration. But I don't think 'top' speed is an issue here though, European law restricts cars to 155 and most of the more modern performance saloons are capable of over 180 anyway. So why worry about the RPM limiter? Just get it de-restricted if 155 isn't enough for you (is for me). And M3 and EVO's are totally different vehicles, anyone says one is better than the other hasn't driven them both
