What an aweome car the T70 was.....never had the reliability of the GT40, quick but suspect over long distances. Then Penske got his hands on one.....was it '70,when it won at Daytona 24 hre, or was it '71?......oh happy days!
The original T-70 Were small block Chevy powered. But they often failed in europe because of the low grade fuel the rules forced racers to run. European Lolas often ran Aston Martin engines instead. These cars are still produced by Lola with the original Chevy Engines...
I have one more for you to enjoy, although it is a 'clipped' short version of our weekend at R.A. and it has a musical background, it was my first post on youtube. It is called...Road America.....in car camera w/crash...maybe you were there that weekend? This occured around '91.
Gotta love then V-8's man, I used to love standing at the hot pit wall at Road America listenin to you all going by at full pop. Look at my video from Willow Springs in CA..."in car camera auto racing"....here also on youtube, thanks for sharing.
...sorry for the misprint, and thanks for your response.
You may recal that the McLarens (with American Chevrolet V-8s) DOMINATED the Can-Am Series and won the overall championship several years in a row. (Untill the 917 Porsche came along and basically RUINED (ended) the series.)
i prefer the high pitched purr of thoroughbred european engines like the ferrari flat 12 or alfa romeos v6 this american V8 rumble is hard on the ears
I think the distortion from the onboard shots doesn't help, but for me whilst the european motors are more finely tuned - you just cannot beat a monster V8 that just wants to eat you alive. Gives me goosebumps.
I like Lolas O.K. but I'm still a McLaren M8D and McLaren M8F lover, which dominated Can Am racing for 5 years. Then the Porsche 917/10 Turbo Charged came into being.
yes, but that engine sure in the heck is American !!! We've produced some great racers.. British chassis with American engines... Lola's, Cobra's, The GT40 to an extent..
I work for Lola Cars and helped to get these cars out the door and its fantastic to see them going hammer and tongs and being driven properly, magic, real magic!
1 dislike? WTF???? I guess Prius drivers may find the roar of the great V8 engines a bit uncouth...........

Kind of like a mix between a Ferrari 330 P4 and a Ford Mk IV

This is awesome. I can't stop listening to the first minute of the clip. Nothing like a big V8 at idle.

I think these Lolas are Chevy powered - not Cosworth.

Kind of like saying you prefer a chain-saw to a jackhammer, don't you think? Or Elvis Pressley to Pavarotti.

you sir have obviously never been to sebring or attended any ALMS or FIA GT races so i shant argue with you.

Did I say ALMS, FIA-GT-1 or CAN-AM? The above video is of Historic VINTAGE CAN-AM. Get the point? Besides, why argue with an opinion?

Last weekend I heard a Ferrari 512 race. It was very loud and wonderful! It hurt in a good sort of way...sort of like...never mind...

Excellent production with some of the best footage of vintage Can Am racing I've seen. You really managed to capture the excitement of Can Am.
