It seems like Phil's voice was right for this cover. I love it because it has lots and lots of power in it. I believe Phil has done Elton proud on this song.
HOw I miss this incredibly talented man, i love his style, rhythmic beats and songwriting, but his tributes.. his voice, his drums... a complete package to me. At the Genesis farm and doing the 'But Serious' album and Phil wanted to cut this for the Two Rooms tribute album to Elton and Bernie. Just Phil, Daryl Stuermer and Lee Sklar on the basic track. Phil did the piano part and then we cut the rhythm section with him drumming

@bughead3 I think it's the Yamaha CP70 Electric Piano, the ubiquitous piano of the '80s. I quite like it actually - and it does help to give this a different sound from the Elton John original. And the band Keane revived that sound for their huge Hopes and Fears album in 2004.
Great cover done by a great artist. Cover of a perfect song, composed by a fantastic artist. Why some people have to ruin it with their stupid Phil-is-better-than-Elton remarks is beyond me.
One of the best Phil Collins covers, as far as I'm concerned, and I've been a fan of his for 30 years. The track was recorded in 1989 during the But Seriously sessions, so the Two Rooms project was a long time coming. Steve Winwood is on the organ here.

This guy is a hack. Stay in your corral where you belong Phil. You are definitely out of your league as a lounge performer doing credible songs. Perhaps you should sing "Clang, Clang, Clang went the trolley" for your next lounge act.
f.....ing great version!!! love this great song, love both elton and phil, but toto's version still my favorite. listen the end of it, very carefully, piano, guitar (steeeeeve!) drums ans voice...amazing
My mum has had this CD [Two Rooms] since it came out nd its been scratched for ages so I got her a new one for her birthday! :] needless to say thats all shes been listening too , no longer get to listen to the Killers or Lady Gaga in the car! :(
Great shots from who I figure are the Phenix Horns. Phil's pronunciation of "squweerills" puts a smile on my face. Great version, though my heart is still with Elton's reworkings of it through he years. Still amazed Elton is still singing it in the same key!
