Im just waitin for Faye to drop her panties so she can give spike some goodbye pussy, you gotta admit their was some type of sexual tension between them throughout the series
@jorgecds: I'd really like to agree with you, 'cause I love Spike. But Vicious is dead. Julia is dead. I can't imagine Spike being truly happy with her gone.
@badboykoji it sooooooooo is. just ignore the so called hard core japanamese fanboys. honestly, mention you even watched a english dub of anything and they just rip your head off
the character spike is based off of me i almost lost my right eye when i was 2 i have a line scar going horizontal across my right eye lid i went to the hospital for it. i actually can relate to the 'only seeing patching of reality' actaully while i was typying this and i made frown face execpt the dream was never over before i knew it
An injured Spike gets thrown out the tainted window of a VERY high church, and survives. There's no way I'll believe that he couldn't survive what happened in the finale.
The fact that the director said he wasn't sure if he's dead or alive makes it fair. Nothing better than an open-ended cliffhanger. But still, I think Spike deserves another chance now that his past demons are put to rest.
@TwilightEspeon But unfortunately it is clear that Spike dies, because the Indian told Jet that when someone dies a star falls from the sky, and at the end of the episode looks like a star disappears, then it means that he dies. That sucks, why Spike has to die? IS THE MAN OF MY LIFE T_T
@MandyBernkastel Didn't Vicious die too, though? The final episode was left open-ended, so I'll trust the director on this one, considering he hasn't given a straight answer and even plays with the idea that he might not be dead.
@TwilightEspeon (im not really the best at putting my thoughts into words) a little thing i noticed that compliments his "past demons put to rest" is his eye at the end. Spike said that he saw the past in one eye which i think he is referring to as his real eye. during the siege on the syndicate he wounded the eye or something so all he had was the eye he was seeing the "present" in as the series ended which is think is like his past is finally finished and he woke up from the dream.
I'm not so sure Faye was in love with Spike at this point. There was a definite attraction between them, but I think that more than anything she was hurting after discovering she had nowhere to go to; no family, and no home waiting for her. And she wanted someone to console her-and she wanted that someone to be Spike. But he saw beyond all that, and already knew it couldn't work. So ad.
I like to thing that Spike is not dead... he recovered from that last slash (like he always did in the past) and then returned to the bebop to get his old lifestyle with the crew, not thinking in the past anymore.
@jorgecds I think that's why they left the anime open ended, so as not to give a definite " he's dead". Though that is a heavily implied ending, with the whole tiger striped cat story and the last "bang" before collapsing.
@jorgecds It may be like that, the ending was pretty much open, and the author of cowboy bebop himself said that he doesn't know if spike is dead or not.
They greatly cared about one another, loved each other in many ways. They would have had a great romance together, I think. Faye feels betrayed in this scene, again. Not that Spike is doing anything wrong, but she knows she is losing a friend, a rival, a brother, a love.
Who knows? If Spike survived his injuries, they would continue to dance around each other, and grow closer and closer. I think they'd find their way to one another. ^_^
it's almost a school girl fantasy.......but i want spike and faye to get together........still now, after nearly 11 years that the show was aired. somewhere down the line spike is alive.....somewhere down the line they are in the eternal waltz....dancing and dancing with bounties every where! damn i got teary eyed !
Watanabe had stated in an interview that Spike did like Faye "quite a bit", but to a lot of people that don't think Spike and Faye could have ever been a couple or would have just argued a lot. Yes they did argue a lot, because that was the only way to hide any affection they had for one another. Then it came to this part and Faye just said "Fuck it" and went after him. Love is a powerful emotion and Faye got a full blast of that in the end. If Spike returns, Faye will just try to push him away.
I don't think Faye fell in love with Spike, and the idea of Spike loving Faye just seems ridiculous to me (he only loved Julia, and I don't even think he loved her in the end, but that's a different theory). I think the reason Faye tries so hard to stop Spike is because he's the closest thing she's got to any real family. Spike always puts himself in danger, and she always sees him come back alive, but this time she knows what will happen, and that's why she starts crying. Brilliant scene btw :D

Okay your probably right about the movie's placement in the series. But there's still a chance that Spike could be alive after falls on those steps at the end. The series' creator even said so.
dubs could be great , i watched 2 episodes of cowboy Bebop in subs then i switched to Dubs , the Dubs are great , for example MegasXLR dubs in arabic was better than the original
@OOFUJISAN You sir, are a complete idiot, Cowboy Bebop has the one dub that even most sub "Elitists" would admit is equal too, if not better than the original Japanese counterpart, know why? Cause it's actually good, if you can't accept that, then here's an idea, how about you DON'T WATCH IT, it's a lot better than hearing you bitch about a so called "Shitty dub". Now back to Naruto and Bleach for you.
@Rejukem Also the guy who worked on the series said that he would be suprised if people thought Spike was dead. He said he just be sleeping (aka passed out).
According to the Anime News Network review, it takes place between episodes 22 and 23 of the series, and has some foreshadowing of the final conflict.
Also note that Ed and Ein are still part of the crew.
@50srefugee: That is, the CB movie fits between eps 22 and 23. [Sorry, I forgot to quote sweetie's question so folks would know what I was talking about.]
I fell in love with this show. When you watch how their relationship developes, you can't help but just wish they would get together. As quick as that, you see this scene and you see how Faye relized she found her place but Spike dies and your heart feels like a huge boulder crushed it's because you adored the looks they gave eachother and the humor. Then it just crumbles.... I'm sure some girls and maybe guys wished they would eventually have eachother to hold but it was crushed.
This scene reflects perfectly the arc of the series:
Ed found her family
Jet realizing that he is doing more good outside the police
Faye realizing that she made a family while looking for one
Spike realzing that you must face your past before you can move on
What's so great is the subtle hints that Faye fell for Spike, but by the time she realized that she found a place she belongs, he has to leave to confront his past. Sad because under dif scenerios these would have been soulmates
This might come across as weird, maybe arrogant, maybe cocky, but this scene is perfect for me and a certain girl. I loved this show when I was younger but is this why I'm gravitating towards it now?
@skalexander So you too have lost one of your eyes in a gunfight and you also have a bounty-huntress that loved you and held a gun to your head, just to find out where were you going ? And you also drive a rocket in your spare time. No, it doesn't weird, maybe arrogant , maybe cocky at all.
AMAZING after so many years... THIS scene still makes me yell out curses while staring at the screen. broke my heart before, and breaks my heart even more now. I finally remember the feeling i had before, the reason why i became obsessed with Cowboy Bebop for one and a half years. gotta say, LOVED their voices.
Theirs was a perfect example of a love-hate relationship. On the surface it appeared antagonistic, almost like they hated each other's guts. Spike and Faye's relationship has reached its zenith here - right before Spike goes to settle the score with Vicious -and end the fight with his rival once and for all.
Faye has no past. Spike IS his past, and he must confront it, whatever the cost, or lose himself. Everything he is, everything Faye loves about him, desires from him, is bound up in his past, what he leaves to do, what his honor compels him to do.
Faye can build herself anew, something she does not yet realize, but Spike...Spike can only finish what he started, and in doing so, transcend his past, and keep his nobility.
Everybody has a right to their opinion, right? I Iove the dub to this show, and especially since this show is a big nod to American movies! Noir, Cop drama, hard science fiction etc. This dub fits these characters like a glove!
@hcoll A lot of critics say this dub is better than the Japanese version. I think all the voices chosen to dub CB were cast well, Melissa Fawn was a great Ed, hit the nail on the head with the silly voice of a girl no more than 12, Beau Billingslea with hisweathered voice fit the old tired out character Jet Black, Wendee Lee portrayed a sexy and raw character like Faye, and for our hero Steven Blum's smooth deep voice worked well with the dark brooding mysterious man with a shady past.
@hcoll As is your right as an individual! And I think you should keep that opinion if that's how you feel!!! :) I have a friend, a really good friend and he DESPISES dubbed anime, and I really like it. I enjoy both the dubbed and subbed versions, to me even with dialogue changes to match the mouth movements you get the same great story, (or bad story in the case of some anime) and how ever you enjoy your anime is how you enjoy it right? Right. I think so anyway.
@BlueLipsoFire: "A lot of critics say this dub is better than the Japanese version."
I certainly agree at least with Fawn's Ed. I wonder if a native Japanese speaker hears the slightly ditzy, slightly mad nuance Fawn brought to her character. I know I can't hear it in Aoi Tada's performance. One of the great triumphs of dub casting.
Otherwise, I think the dub cast does a better job for an American audience than the Japanese cast. I can't speak for a Japanese audience.
Spike and Faye are a perfect couple, like Inara and Mal. The two remind me of eachother. Different universes, different people, but the same kind of love between them. Even if they never truly say it
When Cowboy Bebop first aired I heard a story about this scene. Faye's gun has six bullets and in this scene she fired five times. So what was the sixth bullet for? What did she do after Spike took off? Or after news of his death reached the Bebop?
To be technical, Faye is using a Glock 30 (Look it up), which has a 10-round magazine. So the whole theory is kind of ruined by the fact that she should have four bullets left but back then it made people stop and think.
Saddest scene :( Faye fell in love with Spike, that's what I think. She wasn't a typical anime heroin in the least; when she found out about Julia she didn't flip out or anything. But she really did love him. This is in my opinion the best scene in CB and the best anime scene I've ever seen. Then again, this whole anime was so well done. Nothing can compare. Also, I feel like Spike and Faye might have had a wonderful romance... but your past catches up to you, doesn't it. RIP Spike
Yeah, I had to spend a lot of AP just to learn it. Its a pretty passive ability I think, anyway, I apologize for being that obnoxious and I'm about to remove that comment.
@OOFUJISAN Cowboy Bebop is widely known as the best dub in the history of anime. Know why? 'Cause it's a great fucking dub. Watanabe and the whole crew of CB based CB off American culture, and wanted to include a lot of different racial groups including Latino, "African American", etc. Therefore, English and English expressions fit the anime better. If you deny that, then you missed the point of the culture clashes in CB. Plus, the English voice acting is incredible. Great dub. Legendary anime.
@kawaiipanda24 I don't think I can agree with that entirely. I see your point and it makes sense, but I'll bet you anything that the budget for the english voice overs was only a fraction of the Japanese version. They even change the script a little, in a way that is not exactly to my liking. Maybe it's just me but it doesn't sit right. One anime I can watch in english is Princess Mononoke, and, in fact, it's the same with most of Studio Gibli's works.
@liveforit11 Budget is irrelevant. If the dub's team had minimal funding, if anything, I'd say they pulled off an even greater feat. You and I must appreciate different things, because I would not even consider watching Mononoke in dub, it being my favorite Ghibli film. On the flipside of CB, Ghibli, and namely Miyazaki films, usually feature uniquely Japanese themes and/or cultural elements. Not to mention, we all know how slashed the "script" of Nausicaa was, among other slighter injustices.
@kawaiipanda24 You should really see Cromartie High. That anime has awesome english dubs, so good that it triumphs the japanese dub, even in the japanese setting that it's in.
@OOFUJISAN I can only see Spike being voiced by Steve Blum......It's just like James Earl Ray's voice to Darth Vader......never can either be separated....
this scene reminds me of the old westerns from the 60s and 70s. where the hero is still haunted by the past but still moves forward regardless of the fact that he may die
she didnt tell him she loved him directly in my view because he loves another woman and it was most likely he was gonna say something she didn't want to hear it would have crush her more deeply soo she didnt tell him directly because the answer was their the whole time it wasn't worth telling spike his mind is set elsewhere and she knows it aww... fey :\ spike was enough of a gentlemen not to put false hope and play with her feelings... great anime!
it's almost a school girl fantasy.......but i want spike and faye to get together........still now, after nearly 11 years that the show was aired. somewhere down the line spike is alive.....somewhere down the line they are in the eternal waltz....dancing and dancing with bounties every where! damn i got teary eyed !
@bishieluva I sort of had the same feeling, didn't want to believe that Spike could die. They leave Spike's fate up to the viewer, on one hand he survives everything up until the final episode, and on the other when Jet goes to see Bull (the wise elder american-indian), he is told that Spike's star is going to fall and Yoko Kanno's lyrics at the very end of the credits are "Life is just a dream you know/it's never ending/I'm ascending" the word Ascending symbolizes the soul exiting the body. :(
When Spike said "I'm not going there to die, I'm going to find out if I'm really alive," could mean that Spike never existed at all. He represents God. He died so the world could be a better place. Just my opinion.
@KittyKittys10114 yeah but this is Julia we're talking about...even if she said she loved him he still would have went for Julia.....*sniff* poor Faye I LOVE HER!!!!!!
Well shit, now I want to watch the entire thing again. It's been a while.

"I have to do it, Faye."
The key line from the whole damn story.
Faye has no past. Spike IS his past, and he must confront it, whatever the cost, or lose himself. Everything he is, everything Faye loves about him, desires from him, is bound up in his past, what he leaves to do, what his honor compels him to do.
Faye can build herself anew, something she does not yet realize, but Spike...Spike can only finish what he started, and in doing so, transcend his past, and keep his nobility.

what's the name of the song playing in the background of this scene? i really want to know
palmerbamafan321 9 months ago
Everybody has a right to their opinion, right? I Iove the dub to this show, and especially since this show is a big nod to American movies! Noir, Cop drama, hard science fiction etc. This dub fits these characters like a glove!

@hcoll How in the Hell can you even say that?? This is one of the better dubs
MrSuperman216 9 months ago
@MrSuperman216 It may be, but I still hate it. I have yet to hear a dub I like as much or more as the original Japanese audio track.
hcoll 9 months ago
@hcoll A lot of critics say this dub is better than the Japanese version. I think all the voices chosen to dub CB were cast well, Melissa Fawn was a great Ed, hit the nail on the head with the silly voice of a girl no more than 12, Beau Billingslea with hisweathered voice fit the old tired out character Jet Black, Wendee Lee portrayed a sexy and raw character like Faye, and for our hero Steven Blum's smooth deep voice worked well with the dark brooding mysterious man with a shady past.
BlueLipsoFire 9 months ago
@BlueLipsoFire Again, that fine and dandy, and I agree it was cast well. But I still don't like it.
hcoll 9 months ago
@hcoll As is your right as an individual! And I think you should keep that opinion if that's how you feel!!! :) I have a friend, a really good friend and he DESPISES dubbed anime, and I really like it. I enjoy both the dubbed and subbed versions, to me even with dialogue changes to match the mouth movements you get the same great story, (or bad story in the case of some anime) and how ever you enjoy your anime is how you enjoy it right? Right. I think so anyway.
BlueLipsoFire 9 months ago
@BlueLipsoFire: "A lot of critics say this dub is better than the Japanese version."
I certainly agree at least with Fawn's Ed. I wonder if a native Japanese speaker hears the slightly ditzy, slightly mad nuance Fawn brought to her character. I know I can't hear it in Aoi Tada's performance. One of the great triumphs of dub casting.
Otherwise, I think the dub cast does a better job for an American audience than the Japanese cast. I can't speak for a Japanese audience.

@hcoll How about Code Geass? Once again, not saying the original was bad, but kinda liked the dub better.

Momentum139 1 year ago
@OOFUJISAN Cowboy Bebop is widely known as the best dub in the history of anime. Know why? 'Cause it's a great fucking dub. Watanabe and the whole crew of CB based CB off American culture, and wanted to include a lot of different racial groups including Latino, "African American", etc. Therefore, English and English expressions fit the anime better. If you deny that, then you missed the point of the culture clashes in CB. Plus, the English voice acting is incredible. Great dub. Legendary anime.
kawaiipanda24 1 year ago 76
@kawaiipanda24 I don't think I can agree with that entirely. I see your point and it makes sense, but I'll bet you anything that the budget for the english voice overs was only a fraction of the Japanese version. They even change the script a little, in a way that is not exactly to my liking. Maybe it's just me but it doesn't sit right. One anime I can watch in english is Princess Mononoke, and, in fact, it's the same with most of Studio Gibli's works.
liveforit11 10 months ago
@liveforit11 Budget is irrelevant. If the dub's team had minimal funding, if anything, I'd say they pulled off an even greater feat. You and I must appreciate different things, because I would not even consider watching Mononoke in dub, it being my favorite Ghibli film. On the flipside of CB, Ghibli, and namely Miyazaki films, usually feature uniquely Japanese themes and/or cultural elements. Not to mention, we all know how slashed the "script" of Nausicaa was, among other slighter injustices.
kawaiipanda24 7 months ago
@kawaiipanda24 You should really see Cromartie High. That anime has awesome english dubs, so good that it triumphs the japanese dub, even in the japanese setting that it's in.
stupidichigo99 5 months ago
Oh wait a second, you criticized the dub. Oh yeah, I remember now, I was mimicking you.
I guess I repeat it then. Shitty sub.... dubbed is better. E tu?
Momentum139 1 year ago
@OOFUJISAN I can only see Spike being voiced by Steve Blum......It's just like James Earl Ray's voice to Darth Vader......never can either be separated....
101division44 7 months ago 2
@101division44 ok ok, but the dub text is not faithful. they like to change how things are said. And that's a lame....
OOFUJISAN 7 months ago
@OOFUJISAN Sometimes it's for the better though.......I think both dub and sub are faithful to the characters.....

bishieluva 1 year ago 76
