  • Who says they were "not really a very good live band"?? BUULLLLLLLLLLLLsh*t!

  • would they point they camera at the drummer for one fucking second?

  • OMG HOW HOTT IS BEN HERE***___**** he doesn't lead sing; but Every move he makes = SEXY,,,just watch his moves ...HELLO!!!!!!!

    Benjamin you are missed !!

  • This song was so full of synth....Im surprised the guitars even had a part to play in the song. It looked liked the only one really playing guitar was Ben.

They made it look like they were all playing.....Nice Work Boys. The Cars Rock!

  • What a fabulous band. Complete talents all of them. Rik Ocasek reminds me a lot of Dana Carvey here. I bet Rik would be an easy one for Dana to impersonate.

  • @mozartgenetics I can see it.

  • This was the opening song. What a night that was!

  • When is this concert ever going to be released on dvd or blu-ray? Ever since I saw it on an old laser-disc (which is where this came from), I've been awaiting the dvd and blu-ray release. This concert is addictive. The more you watch it, the more you need!

  • They sounded awesome live !! What a tough song to play in concert and they nailed it. The CARS rock !!

  • love this song so eighty's tech-no-pop LOL hELOo ......... if you like this check out ELO'S BALANCE OF POWER album "SO SERIOUS" song is way cool

  • You have to love a band with a singer who can chew gum and sing at the same time...

  • @atomicinjun OMG!!!!Yes!!!

  • Saw them on this tour in the summer of '84. They were very good technically but quite dull as a live band. The Cars have long been my favorite band, just wish they put more effort into entertaining the crowd than simply playing the instruments.

  • I can't say anything at all bad about The Cars. Good Shit.

  • Benjamin Orr is the sexiest man that has ever lived! Hello again!

  • @Gina97xls I completely agree my friend !!!!

  • Great tune, but too bad they got sucked into that Def Leppard sound on Heartbeat City. This live version is way better than the studio version. Atleast the drums sound real in this performance not big and fake.

  • @bassmanjoe "Def Leppard sound on Heartbeat City"

Haha...I noticed that as well since Robert "Mutt" Lange was the producer for both bands

  • @pdynamics1 ha..my two favorite bands def lep and cars!!!!!! i have something in common! LOL

  • Car were the best. Played the most rhythmic music

  • The Cars belong in the RR hall of fame .....

So who gets nominated this year ?? Donovan !!!

Give me a break here !!!!!!!

  • Nice quality! Thanks for posting these. Treasures.

  • Yep, used to listen to this song a lot.

  • Great comment, rdeco..........they are the most unique, solid band and blazed a truly original path mixing up rock, pop & electronica.......they are incredible!

  • Mmmm...LOVE Benjamin's HOT moves around 0:31...WOW! Love the way he moves throughout the whole vid....

  • @stargazer477

Ocasic I can live without but discovering Ben Orr has deepened my appreciation for how short and fragile life is, and what it means to be truly beautiful while you're in it.

  • @MrLeagueOJustice What you just said about Ben was beautiful.....and true. He was beautiful on the inside, as well as the outside.

  • @stargazer477 MMMM Ben Orr ,,,IKR ,,,every move he makes ^^HOT^^

  • I wish I could go back in time to see The Cars play live.

  • best song ever

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • One of the best beats ever. Do do do do da da da da do do do do da da da da....

  • @GoldeneyeMarine Those are exactly the words I use when I sing along to this awesome song!

  • Cooooooool! There are not eighties's memories without The Cars's music.

  • @timmhg

I saw the Cars twice back in this time period -- at one of 'em I got a "Shake It Up" T-shirt. All my tour shirts from this period eventually shrank so small that I gave them to 14-year-old girls. Partially cuz the shirts would only fit them or a hamster, but mainly cuz there's always someone doofy enough to ask "were you at that show?" even when it's obvious the girl couldn't have even been BORN yet!!! - 1b2s

  • alguien me puede ayudar a bajar "esta version" en mp3 o ipod. gracias

  • mediaconverter (dot) com

  • Gracias!

  • I am sure The New Cars would be a great band, but they need to write brand new songs, and produce a brand new album, and quit singing the old songs, they are killing the old songs

  • @caregvr4u36 They can't write new songs, 'cause Ocasek isn't there to write them. He was a very talented songwriter and wrote almost all of the Cars songs, many of which were never recorded. Sorry, but the old cars can't be traded in for new ones,

  • @mariofan4523

Have you ever heard the Jonathan Richman CD "I'm So Confused", which came out awhile after Jojo co-starred in "There's Something About Mary"? Ric produced it and plays subliminal keyboards -- it's a pretty cool Cars-related album... - 1b2s

BTW: For you trivia fans, Cars drummer David Robinson got his start playing in Jojo's old band the Modern Lovers in 1971, along with future Talking Head Jerry Harrison!

  • @1nceBitten2wiceShy Thanks for the info. I have that movie on DV, one of my all-time favorite comedies. . I've never heard of Jonathan Richman, but would like to hear the song you're referring to, especially if Ric's a part of it.

  • @mariofan4523

I checked the website for Jonathan's record company, and they had a link to "I'm So Confused" on Youtube -- but when you click on it you get a message saying that Jonathan's PUBLISHING company removed the video due to copyright violation! Somebody's got their corporate heads up their financial ----! - 1b2s

BTW: Ric produced the entire album, not just the title song. Oh, and Amazon lets you listen to samples if you wanna check it out that way.

  • @1nceBitten2wiceShy Yeah, I'll check it out on Amazon. Thanks, I appreciate it.

  • This is my favourite CARS song!

  • probabry the most 80s song ever written

  • If You Want More 80's Music, Check Out My Channel

  • OMG!! My favorite CARS song!!!

  • @sweetpea3339 my fav too :)

  • This song reminds me so much of 8th grade.

  • This band is so fucking cool. They are a real band, made up of quirky essentrics and great musicians.

So neat to listen to and watch. They have a unique style and nobody sounds like them.

    I treasure The Cars!

  • They're so great, it isn't even funny. The New Is Old...The Old Is Strikingly New...*

  • To this day it's a surprise to so many people i know, kinda weird, youd think he wouldve been more publicised/honoured. It's very sad. However, just like Elvis Presley, John Lennon and so many others, he left an amazing legacy with his music and as a person.

  • My drummer and best friend just walked into the room and told me ben died. Is this true? From the sound of these posts he isnt around anymore that bums me out DAMMIT!!

  • @RORYzRIGHT Yes, sadly he died in 2000 of pancreatic cancer. He is sorely missed and much loved still.

  • And btw, i'm aware that it's Ric singing here, obviously! LoL!

Wouldn't it be cool if Ric & David came out for a reunion with their old mates! Just need someone who can fill the role that Ben played. Not easy to fill Ben's place, but i can think of at least one person who can sing naturally just like him, with no effort at all. Ben had a high speaking voice but could sing almost any range, and with his own style. Finding someone who can naturally duplicate that would be amazing. I can help.

  • This song always showed how cool and composed and intense they are. They are wild rockin' with Todd but desperately need the Ben factor back again, he was so measured and controlled. And you need Ben's awesome singing, his great range and signature subtle vocal scratch. It's an injustice to the fans, to Ben, and to how great they could still be. Keep Todd on board for his energy if you want, but get a Ben-style singer! And go for that late-round KO. They can still do it, at least one more time!

  • This is around the time the backing vocals all sounded "canned". I could always pick the voices out before this point.

  • elliots guitar may be the gayest thing i have ever seen

  • It's amazing to me that they could do this stuff 'live' and have it sound so perfect, just like the record. I'm a Ben girl, but Ric really did this song so good. His voice was definitely good for this one. How can you 'not' get into this? Their music really draws you in. So cool.

  • i have always loved the cars. IN concert though, I was amazed at how low key they were. For the 80's it seems very out of place. A little boring to watch. Having said that, I can't think of a band that better sums up the sound of late 70's into the 80's new wave. They hit all the bases.

  • AWESOME!!

  • I saw them in San Francisco during this tour and although the music was great their stage presence left a lot to be desired. Rick Ocasek looked liked a leather-clad mannequin, he hardly moved during the entire concert. Great band though I miss them.

  • saw them on the Panorama tour traveled two hours to get there. Well worth it had the time of my life! Love the Cars! Now my 15 year old son is digging them

  • I saw them in Providence in 1984. Wang Chung opened up for the. I love the cars. Their music was brilliant. But their stage presence was a little boring.

  • I wish I saw this group in concert!!!!! back in the 80's I was too young

  • I got to see them the summer of '84 at the Norfolk Scope - what a great show!

  • god i wish i was 26 at this time...

  • Benjamin and Ric !!! <3333

My faves, and Ben is hott

  • I love the live stuff...It gives the songs new twists!

  • Great song. Underrated! The lead singer from the Clarks patterns Ric's demeanor. Nice clip!

  • the cars... nunca escuche de ellos, son mi nueva influencia

  • Its official: they're my new favourite band!!

  • i miss these guys of epic proportions!!

  • Not Boring... I love watching this... thanks

  • Love you, Ben. RIP

  • I love the audience in this concert! it´s extremely 80´s, this song is innovative and original, it´s the opposite of boring, its rhythm. is awesome and the sound made with keyboards deserve 5 stars, great band the cars,

  • @BlackSkyThunder I was in the audience! I was 19 years old and head over heels in love with Ben! :) those were the days! best band ever!

  • metodex , like wtf, what kind of a thing is that to say??

  • The keyboard lick is epic! Greg Hawkes rocks!

  • Hah, take a look at some Simon and Garfunkel concerts.

  • what man? you must be joking. this is so much better than the studio versions

  • you must be joking [2] lol

  • ha ha. the truth is i used to love the cars back in the grand ol 80s. i also wore checkerboard vans and rayban sunglasses, and i still do.

  • thesullivanXXX

since you mentioned The Clash, you better listen to Sex Pistols, they're FAR better and much less boring than The Clash... But you're very very wrong about The CARS, it's the best band ever! And best LIVE band ever too!!

  • You`re right!!!!!

  • I said Elo

  • this is an nice song but the singer makes me wanna vomit,i hate that man

  • whyy?

  • I would have given anything to have seen Ben Orr in person!

  • nice

  • this song is so tubular

  • My fav Cars song. :D

  • ben and elliott look so hot!!!!!!

  • you mean ben and ric

  • cool song :)

  • The Cars were the best, Sounds great live. R.I.P Ben!

  • man, do i miss these guys!!!

  • We all (fans) miss them...

  • Gotta love ric at 1:08

  • I hope they eventually release this concert on DVD...

  • I saw this live, it was an unreal experience! No wonder they recorded it!!!

  • That Door to Door is a good one.

  • gotta love the 80's! nah, thats not Rutgar but he does look a bit like him, cuter! Gotta love Rutgar in Blade Runner though.

  • Rutger Hauer on bass! (That's a joke.)

  • Good eye!

  • Oh, yes, but I think Benjamin Orr is (was) handsomer..lol

  • I'm agree

  • ha ha this song is so catchy

  • i am 14 love hard rock and i like this group they are awesome

  • same

  • definately a precurssor to ZOOTV..u think?

  • Classic cars song, yes the 1980's it had some great bands like the cars. Rick Ocasec was Mr. Rock star.Ben Orr great voice.

  • a really cool song i like it!

  • OMG I absolutely LOVE this song!! Back in the 80's I use to turn the volume all the way up on the car sterio when playing this! Awesome to dance to.

  • One of THE TIGHTEST bands ever! So great live!

    RIP Benjamin Orr.

  • They were/are all gifted musicians who took their work seriously.

  • Saw The Cars several times...awful concer band...one of the worst...they admittedly did not like touring, and it showed.

However, they were my fav band from the 80s...amazing music creators- fun songs, great hooks' loved Ric and Ben...Greg was a great keyboardist. Ben Orr had an amazing voice and is missed by those who loved The Cars.

  • great song

  • Hello, hello again!

    I love this song!

  • This is one group I never got a chance to see live and I really wish I had.

  • Yes, they were incredible!

  • Saw this tour in West Lafayette,IN. Love you, Ben. RIP.

  • they were at Elliot in '84 when i saw them

  • i love this song!

  • I saw this concert tour with my brother...wang chung opened up...fantastic..they sounded just like the albums...devo was suppose to open but they were hung up for some reason...they had released shout in this year..but the cars were outselling everyone!!!Heartbeat City must have been there greatest tour and album!!!Glad I could see it back then!!RIP Ben Orr..

  • this is wierd rics singing here but on a different concert dvd they have ben orr singing it.

  • they both had cool voices, but Ben's was much more versatile, whereas Ben could sing any of the cars tunes & could do Ric's songs easily,But Ric couldn't ever do some of Ben's sweeter tunes like "Drive" I never realized that Ben sang so much,in fact I thought the only tune he sang was "Drive", so I was shocked to see on the tube that he sang some of their best known hits. he was quite an asset to The Cars. & he is very much missed..r.i.p. Ben Orr

  • You're absolutely right, though I like Ric the most.

    R.I.P. Ben!!

  • yeah ,they both rock as we see how the "NEW CARS" sound to me like a good cover band or maybe a tribute band, but they certainly are

not "the cars" we all knew & loved..

  • Meh, to me, The New Cars are absolutely not cool. Ric Ocasek is what COOL is, if you ask me.

Also, what The Cars without Ben?!

  • This is ZooTV before there was ZooTV

  • I would agree....they've been gone far too long. I miss their music so much!

  • I miss them so much too.

  • I so miss this awesome group!

  • Certanly he is ugly and very thin, but he has his something.

  • You know people often shit on Ric and say he was ugly...but I wanted to be him when I was 17-18 years old...he was fucking COOL!!!!

  • play halo3 to this, you will win every game

  • interesting ;)

  • what a music making machine they were....

just count all the great songs..

incredible! & they sound great live!

  • lmao you gotta appreciate ric with the cigarette in the background

  • Right on fellas!! Come on back...we'll go.

  • thanks a million, this cut holds a lot of memories for me.

  • I was at this concert too! The Cars were the best. By far. Shooobeedoo.

  • this just shows how music is dying and no longer alive in public view gota go britny just farted on cnn nazi network

  • It was the first concert I went to and certainly one of the best.

  • This was a great concert.. flashback!

  • will someone PLEASE post "HEARTBEAT CITY", LIVE IN HOUSTON 1984 on here... P-L-E-A-S-E!!!!!

    Thanks :)

  • I never had the chance to see them live, and now I'm regretting it. Thanks for sharing the clip, they sound amazing!

  • The Cars are my all time favorite group. I saw them only once though in 1987. I was sooo drunk on home made schnaaps that I hardly remember the concert. I was pissed the next day. (Also very hung-over)

  • will someone PLEASE post "DRIVE", LIVE IN HOUSTON 1984 on here . . . P-L-E-A-S-E!!!!!

    Thanks :)

  • My favourite song

  • good

  • I was at this concert!!! Awesome show!

  • RIC OCASEK'S THE BEST!!

  • Awesome video - thanks for posting!

  • I got interested in The Cars after I heard this song in the background of a magician's act. Hey don't laugh, I got into David Bowie (after I heard Shape of my Heart) and InXS (Never Tear Us Apart) the same way. I missed a lot of good music when I was a kid and am making up for it now.

  • Sorry, meant Sting not Bowie... though I do love him to. Always have in his case.

  • hahaha me too! i saw the same act! the kooky guy who made sunglasses dissappear and reappear!

i cant remember the guys name, but im sure somewhere, i have that taped on VHS.

    -SteveTV

  • His name's Topas and the act was on the first World's Greatest Magic special

  • I was at this concert at the Summitt, 1984. They were awesome !!! best band of the 80's - The Cars !!!
