Protestors claim their innocence when apprehended at Queen and Spadina. First off they were part of an illegal assembly. Second, when that crowd first came to Queen & Spadina, the police tried to redirect them north on Spadina. Instead of complying, the crowd confronted the police & tried to force their way west on Queen. "Let us through, let us through" they screamed as they taunted the law. It may be against some police agencies policies to punch people but others call them "distractors" and are encouraged when someone is resisting arrest. No. I know for a fact you are incorrect. Most places you can be fined for Jaywalking. However, some places (usually in the city where it's a major problem) you can be arrested for Jaywalking.
Either way... it is irrelevant. You walk away while getting a citation (or refuse to sign) you can be arrested.
Nothing illegal about that. People who commit crimes (or are under investigation during an incident) get detained.

The difference between American and Canadian is plain as day. Here in Canada we're much more peaceful. The USA is a whole other ball game. It's a very violent country. I think it's important that we maintain that peaceful ideology and steer as far away from American ideology as much as possible.

I would not (completely) blame American culture for American violence when compared to Canada. If you look at trustworthy crime rates and climate one can easily see that the hotter it gets... the more violent people seem to become.
