Yep....we all said "Wtf"?!?!?! forward passes, little knock ons...them immediately just got on with it....no replay after super slo mo replay for 5 minutes, we accepted much more back then, people accepted responsibility for their actions too....times have changed
Double movement @ 2:15. WTF? I played in those days and fail to understand the call, but what is great is that the decision is accepted, including by the commentators! I wish this aspect of sportsmanship was still with us!
i remember running onto the field, as a kid, after the game to pat the players on their backs, nowadays you`d be jumped on by 130kg bouncers, bring back the good ol` days of life in oz
1976. Those were the days when I used to follow the Sydney rugby league avidly. Souths played poorly that year without challenging for the wooden spoon, because Newtown got an irretrievable mortgage on that, [and for the next ywo successive years]. Wests, like Balmain, were semi-final contenders for most of that season, but fell away in the second half of the season to both just miss the top five. And that was, as it turned out, a scenorio exactly similar to 1975, in retrospect.
@Richardhedditch261 And that 1975-1976 scenorio regarding Wests and Balmain both just missing the top 5 [semi-finals] did, in the fullness of things, radically alter Rugby League history away from Balmain and Wests in favor of Parramatta and Canterbury Bankstown, with the latter two going on to share in those mid-1970s spoils, and so on through the rest of the 1970s, all the 1980s and beyond. Sort of sad, really.
We used to run on to the field in New Zealand back in the late 70's and 80's. Now you have to contend with burly security and police dogs and a $1000.00 fine.
Lidcombe oval was amazing when full, suburban rugby league at it's best.
Rex is flying on this call, he could be shit on his day but the rev-o-meter was pushing red in the commentary box that day.
'..i loathe and deplore this sort of behaviour..' rex at his best. he used to freak out if a player put the ball down one handed over the tryline as well
I remember this match as if it happened yesterday, not because of the footy but because I 'dropped' my girlfriend on the way home that day. Here's why.
It was a beautiful sunny day & we're sitting on the red rattler heading to Richmond when some bloke was taking a piss from the coupling guard where you cross between the carriages. Anyway my girl's hanging out the window saying "ooh, its raining" as she's getting sprayed in this blokes piss. She was a dumb bitch - good fuck but dumb as dogshit.

Ah yes thems the days. You looked over at all the other young kids along the fence and they were lined up like Olympic runners waiting for the end of the game. As soon as the siren went it was a massive run to grab the corner flag which was nothing more than an extended bog roll covered in tape.
Running onto the field was a huge buzz as a kid in those days, and it was an even bigger buzz if you were quick enough to snare one of the corner posts... coloured black and white of course!
The good old days of running on to the ground, I used to do it as a child at Eden Park in Auckland, infact I ran on to the field during a cricket test match along with a few thousand others. These days it's nigh on impossible, especially with the ring of security placed around the field i.e. security guards
Man, the days when the crowd ran onto the field at the game's end! Oh yea I luv Rex Messup's closing comments on how disgusting it is, xD the big poof
I saw a local game at Lidcombe Oval a few years ago. Boy what a walk down memory lane. The tiny grandstand which looks like it sat a couple of hundred people. But it was like yesterday, smelling the linament and hearing the players rev themselves up before they left the sheds. The crowd knew there was always going to be and anticipated the fireworks, especially against Manly. Dallas and Boydy instigating on cue a bit of " Larry Dooley " in the first scrum.
Lidcombe oval was a special place. They would let the kids sit on the bike track if the crowds got to big. It was a real buzz running on at the end of the game to pat your favourite player on the back. I remember doing that to Ted Goodwin ( St George) once...It was like coming face to face with GOD!
He didn't like the pitch invasion did he !

But the majority of us loved it.
