much is left to experience with a software. Nowadays kids are spoon fed computers- so yes, a hunch (belief in oneself) could produce a rogue hit. But if you are paid to engineer (see above) you want better odds than one hit. All instruments of man are decendants of the 1st instrument: the organic voice of man. A mixing software is yet another instrument to support- or fill in the void of- articulation playing out in the panorama of rhythm, melody, and harmony from music theory. All in a song...

@AlternateZone Hey can you tell me the name of music mixer so i can produce my own tracks and record soome demos? Nothing too fancy like something you see Diddy use on making the band shit that cost like $50,000.00, something for around $500.00- 2,000.00. I really want to start recording my own demos and producing my own songs, so yea if you can recomend a music mixer machine hat operates off your own PC at home it woud mean alot man.
In my studio I use Cubase 5 for my VSTi's and Adobe Audition 3 for mixdown editing. But primarily I am running in to an Otari MTR90 24 Track 2 inc reel to reel... Damn what a warm sound.
HE can anyone help me, im trying to mix my drums into prerecorded tunes if you will, and im at a lost, to be honest i haven't the slightest idea about what im doing and ANY help will be appreciated, im running adobe audition right now (no idea how it works)
iheartsedric totally agree mate .. its not the tools its how you use them, you get a lot of people who will go out there and buy the best then sit there with their finger up their backside trying to figure out how to use it..
I can't stand it when people start saying my system is better than yours but even more so when they obviously no F**k all
Exactly, I have friends that use Cubase and Fruity Loops and produce wonderful results... better than some of the crap I've pumped out in a more advanced system....
Igot hd an theres no way in cubase nuendo that you`ll get the mixing power yo .but if you dont run nothing native an use the big ben clock , the apogee rosetta series then you begin to touch that relm
Silly statement and so I am going to correct it....
Mixing power ? your talking about Audio Quality and I agree about the Apogee but then you also have Prism/Lavry.
Tools wise you can use Cubase with UAD/TC Powercore/Sonnox if you add a Lavry on top of that, game over.
Just because you got HD doesn't mean you have the ultimate system there are many people using various apps around the world in Hi End studios and believe me they aren't all HD based.
Akalaka is right although Pro Tools is pretty much an Industry standard, power wise its an open book nowadays .. faster CPU's and the DSP cards such as UAD and Duende are incredible....
There is a far too much mis information on the web; Dj Kuttack if your a producer/mixer you owe to yourself and people who may use your comments to read up and get to know whats going on out there..
I know a lot of people who are all happy because they paid 10 g's for their HD system, but they're idiots and their music still sounds like shit...
No matter what program you use, a good engineer can mix a song on any system. The only advantage of an HD system is the built in tape.... Otherwise, I can mix, master and engineer just as well in Logic and send out a non-Digi tape system with no problems or loss of quality.
There is no global standard of software or hardware, just opinions...
cubase has way better algorhythms for tracking, with 32bit floating yadda yadda... several producers have noticed that after takin my wave files into protools, my files have more of what theyre lokin for... i agree, knowing how to engineer is 90% of it tho...
CAKEWALK products the best choice, you'll never regret, sonar lines is a good start specially sonar 8 producer edition it can integrate with ALL KINDS of DAW and its a must have, it exceeds the industry standard & you get real nice professional looking DAW interfcae not like some ugly DAWs it looks like audacity lol. im not that big fan of cakewalk products but i notice every daws in the market only cakewalk can deliver real good "GUI" looking professional DAW interface and its easy to use 100%
I would actually like to be able to try out mixing music. I am by no means a pro- but i'd like to try and find the equipment quite scary. Im much better at video editing but i want to expand my horizons a bit!
Cubase takes a lot of exploring and experimentation to find out how to get the sound you want, but it is totally worth it and I find it extremely easy.
Who is 'everyone' ? Professional $tudio$, yes. Independent artists? Not so much...rarely, in fact.
I do electronic music, and literally have never heard of anybody in the scene using Pro Tools. Typically it's hardware gear or Ableton for production, and Cubase, Logic, etc for final mix.
Who is 'everyone' ? Maybe big-money Pop and Rap music. THOUSANDS of independent musicians use Cubase, Logic, Ableton Live etc.
In the end, it's always about the talent; equipment is about 5% of the final product. Give a talented producer a 10 year old sampler and an analogue mixer, and he'll still get a better sound than a hobbyist with Pro Tools.
I agree with what you are saying, but to clarify, protools is the most universally accepted audio production software. If you record a session in a studio in New York, you can send it to a studio in Tokyo, and they will not have any compatibility issues regardless of platform. I am right there with you as far as the talent of a producer/sound engineer being the key. If you build your own studio , I suggest pro tools, that way if your studio ever grows, it is based on the industry standard.
Yeah, you're right on there. Hey, if I could afford the $8000 hardware for 'real' Pro Tools, I'd get it in a heartbeat. The light versions that run on regular machines are, to me, not even worth it - unless you're absolutely determined to exist on the Pro Tools platform for the reasons you mention.
HD cost a ton of money, but you can get a mixing session of Pro Tools v8 that has 49 Audio tracks for under $300, but I would go for Cubase for it's compatability, track count and the mixing desks are way cheaper and sometimes better than digidesigns. I use protools because my college uses it exclusively.
Pro tools support Rtas and TDM plugins but not it also supports vst instruments. You simply need one program called vst to rtas adapter v2.0
Logic pro is also great. Ableton is best for live performances. FL is a joke. Cubase is not bad though I would not compare it to pro tools. There are more limitations than pro tools. There is a reason why pro tools is the industry standard.
I have two midi tracks recorded. One is piano and the other one is strings. But when I play my recording back through pro tools they both come out as a piano sound. I cant get one track to play the piano sound and the other strings.
change the voice on the string track. its on the left side of the screen near the record enable button.theres a box that says "none" when no voice selected. if you have the proper patch in pro tools(when you set up midi studio you'll know) otherwise if you're using a modeler plugin, you have to assign each pt track to a midi track in the modeler. are you using instrument tracks showing.select this -View-mix window-instruments.
Hey that was a joke. It is a matter of personal preference. I use both, Cubase and ProTools, but I like Cubase midi engine better. and "rewire" in Cubase is easier to set up for software that not custom made for ProTools.
What I did in that situation was rendering those midi tracks to audio tracks and then mix with those. Once you render them, you won't be able to edit the midi tho. Hope that helps.
False, not all programs sound the same, sure it all starts at 1's and zeros but each program tries to model the sound, and I prefer no output modeling, thats why these scrubs hate pro tools because #1 they cant rip it off and #2 mommy wont buy them the class A pres and compressors needed. so they use nubenudo or some other 2nd rate trash.
I have protools and cubase but I find cubase works great. and Ive heard music produced in Fl studio that sounds Mint. like I said making music is preferences. I say if you have the right monitors hardware possibility is endless.
This shows your level of understanding when it comes to music production, i dare you to post a genuine audio track of one of your production and let us all here it.
You are wrong, most DAW software have a basic sound engine. There're some couple of factors that determine the quality of the sound you get from your daw, such as your audio interface, the quality of your ad/da converter, your equipment in general and your skill in music production.
For example, a person with an apogee symphony system with ad-16x/da-16x converters and logic pro will get a better sound quality than someone with an m-box with protools.
I swear i mix with Fl Studio, and Pro Tools, But im back to FL now, and I found that the only thing i dont like about it is, the fact that you only have 64 tracks to work with, i never thought i would have to use all of the, being i mix Rap/Hip hop music, but i have came to that point recently lol
Also Keep in mind that Pro tools has its own sound I personaly use Nuendo as it sounds more warm or close to tape. Pro tools has gotten better but it does have its own sound. So whats shown here pertains to protools users
because In nuendo you dont have to do as you do here.
Hey thanks, mystified... Great vid. What you've stated on your video regarding eq'ing is something I found to be doing naturally after so many years (I am not school-trained) and makes complete sense. Also, yes, you're right that eq'ing individual tracks may not be perfect once you hear them together w/ the others... good reference point but tweaking again is normal with a group of tracks.
Anyway, rock on bro, from an old fogie analoger who recently went digital. Peace.
s's i mean on sibilants in the vocal , deser remove tham and it's based on high frequency , it's something like a gater but it is concirned on the high freq only
ds'er or in cubase dereser or something close to it is effect plugin for vocal , to slightly remove s's or unwanted high frequencies that the vocal produces..
Well, in fact, America has so many spanish speaking countries, and english is not the only language here. Why most of the northamerican people call their country "America" and themself "Americans"? Everyone born from Chile to Canada are americans. But, that's not the problem here. Youtube is truely a nothamerican company, but it is a free site when everyone can upload not copyrighted videos in any language. Diego, there are a lot of spanish tutorials here too. Search for them correctly.
the Trend that I also see and notice is most professional instructional videos are allways pro tools centric I would like to see some other daws take this professional aproach instead of just apealing to the "project studio" guy
what alot of folks need to take into consideration is alot of these mix instructional videos are pro tools based. So alot of whats done here is based on how protools crunches the numbers. Nuendo cruchnes the number in a way that what may be done in pro tools may or may not be needed in nuendo and the same applies to other apps.

"sure it all starts at 1's and zeros"
It's the other way around! It ends with binary.

Pro tools is the problem Logic sounds like tape. If you use Protools get rid of it before it ruins you.
Billy982810 3 years ago
Wow Pro Tools is hideous.
I'm sure the sounds are fine, but I'll stick with Logic 8.
MUCH easier on the eyes and workflow.

I swear i mix with Fl Studio, and Pro Tools, But im back to FL now, and I found that the only thing i dont like about it is, the fact that you only have 64 tracks to work with, i never thought i would have to use all of the, being i mix Rap/Hip hop music, but i have came to that point recently lol
arondaking09 3 years ago
i agree
protools does have its own sound
karlovaleksey 3 years ago
Also Keep in mind that Pro tools has its own sound I personaly use Nuendo as it sounds more warm or close to tape. Pro tools has gotten better but it does have its own sound. So whats shown here pertains to protools users
because In nuendo you dont have to do as you do here.

I know I am not solely speaking for my self when I say that a gate on a kick (or snare) should come before eq.
musicdriven888 3 years ago
Hey thanks, mystified... Great vid. What you've stated on your video regarding eq'ing is something I found to be doing naturally after so many years (I am not school-trained) and makes complete sense. Also, yes, you're right that eq'ing individual tracks may not be perfect once you hear them together w/ the others... good reference point but tweaking again is normal with a group of tracks.
Anyway, rock on bro, from an old fogie analoger who recently went digital. Peace.

well youtube is an american company thats what we do here in america.... we speak english
andr123w 3 years ago 2
Well, in fact, America has so many spanish speaking countries, and english is not the only language here. Why most of the northamerican people call their country "America" and themself "Americans"? Everyone born from Chile to Canada are americans. But, that's not the problem here. Youtube is truely a nothamerican company, but it is a free site when everyone can upload not copyrighted videos in any language. Diego, there are a lot of spanish tutorials here too. Search for them correctly.

the Trend that I also see and notice is most professional instructional videos are allways pro tools centric I would like to see some other daws take this professional aproach instead of just apealing to the "project studio" guy
zellymusic 3 years ago
what alot of folks need to take into consideration is alot of these mix instructional videos are pro tools based. So alot of whats done here is based on how protools crunches the numbers. Nuendo cruchnes the number in a way that what may be done in pro tools may or may not be needed in nuendo and the same applies to other apps.

umm? what is wrong with this people.. I think this is great advice.. I'm going to try it as soon as possible
